Back in the 1990s I used to have a held hand radio, it was not that great but it did its job and I had some good times and great memories with it. Of course when I would use it I would have to sit outside on my roof or out front on the porch. Fridays and Saturdays even Sundays back then we're great. Back throughout the 1990s I think everyone either had a held hand cb or an actual cb in their cars or trucks. Well the 1990s were great back then.

Here in the UK we can get the midland alan 42 which allows access to ALL European frequency sets in AM and FM, basically a 200 plus channel cb! Kicks out 12 watts plus!

Richard i have the Midland 75-882 and the Midland Alan 42 they are basically the same radio...one is the Us market version the other is the internacional or European version...( Depending were you use it )...they only have a maximum out power of 4 watts ( i don't know were you see 12 watts out put power )...the only way is to modify the radio...and if you use batteries they will not last moch...you will need to use 12 volt DC to get maybe those 12 watts in AM or FM ( 75-882 can be modify to have 400 ch and also UK FM channels )...one thing that i have not being able to get in the Alan 42..is the frequencys in the display like on the Midland 75-882...the two radios are good for Mobil and hand held operation...

@@guideup7554 Honestly I can't complain about it. It will never be a mounted unit, or a base unit level of performance. However, it did surprise me with how well it performed for a portable handheld unit, both in range/battery life and in audio quality/ clarity of receive. I would recommend getting the auxiliary antenna for mounting on the car if you are going to put it in a vehicle. It extends the warranty if you buy the radio and the vehicle antenna at the same time. I didn't know that until after I bought the radio and read the manual. The radio has hidden features as well. Sorry it took so long to respond. I don't read email often.

The Randy is good but in my experience the 75-882 is better and more practical in emergency's ( i have one since 2007 and it really came Handy 10 years later in Sept 2017 during Huracanes Irma and María when I was in Puerto Rico to use like a Mobil and hand held CB radio )

@@ericketchum4809 Yes, since posting this I found that Cobra added Scan too, it seems to be the trend these days and will be a deal-breaker with many users when buying CB and Export Mobiles and CB handhelds. ..I enjoy Scan on my Ham radio's and find it vital on mobile CB during travel because there are so few people on local CB, I want to try and catch every transmission I can.
