Just built this. Thanks for posting. I will warn you though that this will take you longer than an hour and a half to build if your garage is anything like mine and you have to push all the crap out of the way to actually make space to build. Then add in time that you spend tripping over all of your shit, time spent at the ER because an injury related to tripping over said shit, time finding your tools, and you’re easily at a day or two worth of work. In all seriousness though, this is an easy and cost effective build. I added jack studs to the front legs at the end to help make the front legs stronger. I would recommend the same. You will sleep better at night.

Too funny, and soooo true to what is going on in my garage! I'm a bit of a wood hoarder, and what I'm using to store it isn't very efficient. I spent yesterday doing exactly what you described, with the intent of focusing on building it today. I unloaded the wood, removed the hangers, and spent a good deal of time trying to locate one of my five tape measures, one of my many sized levels, etc. So far, no injuries, but I think I managed to get my 10,000 steps in just LOOKING for shit!!!

Totally! 😂It’ll take me a few hours to clear out all our crap first, without injuries! The build will be a breeze. Then sorting thru, recycling, donating and tossing of said crap. Then put it all away on our pretty new shelves.

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzread.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I have made these in the past based off an older video yinz did. They are so simple, yet so great. I use the kreg for joining the supports to rear horizontal 2x4. My new house is just weeks away from being move in ready! I watched all of your garage shelving videos and decided your way was exactly how to do it. I told my daughter how simple you made it and had her watch the video. Before you got to the part where you barely screwed in the horizontal 2x4s to the ones attached to the wall she said "I don't know what the big deal is." Kids right? Then she realized what you were doing and I could tell she was impressed and she said "That is so smart!!" When she builds her first set of shelves I guarantee you she will do it the exact same way. Thanks you guys!!

I did something VERY similar in my basement 10 years ago. The inside 2x4's were being screwed to the concrete walls and so I had to predrill holes and use concrete screws. I also used treated 2x4's to mount to the concrete walls and regular 2x4's for everything else. One other thing I did was routed a lip on the inside of the 2x4's to set the OSB into so that the edges were hidden and protected by the 2x4's. Putting things on and taking things off the shelves, over time, would tear the OSB edges up.

  • @zoniabarnard2062

I used this and made some very similar shelves. They turned out great. I had a few issues such as a 3" sloping foundation lip on the bottom that made it difficult to line up the boards to take out. That was the hard part. But if I were to make again though I would make my shelves 32" wide instead of 24". I've found 24" is just not wide enough for me. Would require a couple extra 2x4's and sheets of osb for shelves but well worth it imo.

Thanks for the concept. I built this in our garage 3 years ago and it's been great - now I need to build a second set! I adapted your idea to make it easier and avoid toeing in screws at the shelf ends, something I wasn't comfortable doing. Instead, I placed the shelf support ends outside the parallel front & back pieces. In this way, I was able to screw straight into the longer supports. Much easier!

Great design. I modified it using 8-foot 2×3 uprights and horizontals, 16-inch deep shelves of 3/8 ply cut at Lowe's. I put in 13-inch 2x3 supports between the horizontals every 2 feet. Really strong. Really easy for this novice. I put up 2 8-foot units, and as soon as I get the stuff up off the floor and onto the shelves, two more are going in. So glad I found your video. Thanks.

I just use a 2x2 for the back cleat. Just rip it down from a 2x4 to save money. It would save 4 2x4x12 on this project. Also, the audience needs to know to never use drywall screws on structural stuff like the frame. Deck screws are fine, or a 16 penny spike has a shear strength of about 3000 Lbs. Great instruction on the video

It never ceases to amaze me, as revealed here, that the original plumber “jury rigged” a shortcut so as cheaply but unprofessionally solder in a 1/2” homemade plug. A professional would use properly sized adapters. Thanks to your adding the threaded adapter, at least the future owner will benefit. Well done. Just FYI, my builder allowed the plumber to have that bibb BEFORE the home’s shutoff valve. To replace the spigot, the inconvenience is the result of unprofessional contractors. Thanks for your work.

By far the best instructional for utility shelves I've seen so far. I'm building a set this weekend and this is perfect. I love it. Nuff said.

Binge watching so many videos. Have a 12x24 shed ordered. ZT, and 2 push mowers and wood working tools so was looking for shelving ideas. For a 1 man band this seems to be tje smartest yet! Also have pocket hole jig so your commentary on this and tips on keep saw lined up properly is a big help for a non-carpenter guy like me. Yeah I'm late to this party but TY for this!😊

Just built a set of these for my garage. Brilliant design and so simple to erect. Only issue I had was my block walls being out of plum and some of the timber being cupped, but I now have a set of strong usable shelves that were all made out of scrap. Thank you for this.

These are me favorite shelf units. I've seen Ana build them before. I only wish I would have seen your plans before I built my shelves. Mine are open front with metal "thingys" for support. 2 of the 3 shelves have bowed. Lol.....next time.....

It’s easier and faster if you built the shelves as boxes first and then added the legs. No pocket holes needed or angled screwing. Also, no need to drill the wood into the wall and then take it out. My dad and I recently made shelves and tried different methods. It was seamless and done quickly when you build the shelves as boxes first. You then add the legs as the last step.
