I recently bought one of the accel 240 Silky 4 -5 months ago to use at the High Mountain Homestead in my wood lot. THEY ARE AMAZING !! I like it , So Much,, I ordered anouther to keep on my 4-wheeler. I wish they'd been availible when I was working with the Forest Service building and maintaining trails , man would that have saved me some serious elbow grease ! I worked with them for >16 years and have used every saw known to man and these Silky saws blow everything else out of the water . Believe me, if you don't own a Silky saw,,,get ya one, you'll never go back to anything else !!Seriously,,,

After owning many budget saws and knowing how well they work I can honestly agree with this review. By far, these are the best portable saws you can get. I have used Fiskar, Corona, and other box store saws. Being able to swap out blades for different teeth is a plus. I own two Silkys, the pocket boy and it’s larger big brother. Silky has raised the bar for others to meet.

I have had the big brother of this saw for about 2 years and I've been very happy with it. I mainly use it around the house, for trimming unruly shrubs and trees, but I keep it stored in my 'get home' bag in my vehicle. I would recommend it, but I would also caution those who are a little clumsy or not handy with tools. This saw is incredibly sharp, and it can be dangerous if not handled properly. I would also recommend carefully cleaning any sap off of the blade before putting it away. It will prolong the life of the tool.

As an avid hiker the PocketBoy 130 has earned a permanent place in my pack. It may be small, but it can be a workhorse, for trail maintenance among other uses. Also, I've gotten to where I cut my walking stick when I actually need one. Good review. The Silky "Outback" version as well as the Bahco Laplander come in earth tone colors, so I use a bright colored chord as a lanyard to make it easier to spot on the ground.

They have this they are showing in video and they also have a big one you can carry in a holster they are both really great I do landscaping here for the city and they have both of them love them and I use them daily. They only cut one way since it’s from Japan so going backwards instead forward cuts faster.

I’m pretty new to the Silky Saws too. I had the Bahco Laplander for a long time., and a Fiskars too. But the Silky blows them all away. I went with the Gomboy I think is one of the mid-size models. I like the pocket one. I gotta pick one up. Great review as usual. Keep it up. 👍🏼

BS! Blows them away by about... a few seconds when cutting the same wood? Fiskars has the same teeth, they are almost identical in terms of performance and speed...

High carbon steel is only important when using Flint (the rock) and Steel. Only two things you need to scrape ferrocerium rods: 1. It needs to be harder than the (relatively) soft ferro. 2. It needs to have a sharp or abrupt enough edge to scrape shavings off the ferro. I've used river clam, oyster, etc shells with ferros. Tin cans, stainless steel knife and saw blades, sandpaper, etc with ferros.

The Silky saws are phenomenal! I got the Silky F180 (which is a bit cheaper than the pocket boy but more useful in my opinion because of the slightly longer blade and slimmer design) and it is just awesome. Never had to sharpen it, it is so light weight that I put it in my EDC bag (I don't even feel the extra weight) and it goes through branches like butter. Very sturdy. Just love it - was worth every cent! Oh yeah, get a set of gloves - Trust me, you will need them when using these saws. They are super sharp!

Silky makes great saws. Check out the Outback series they've come out with now. Just a tip, though: ferro rods don't care what material you use to scrape them... anything will work. Carbon steel only matters if you're using flint and steel, since the flint strikes the spark off of the steel. With a ferro rode, the scraper tool scrapes the sparks off the rod. As long as your scraper is sharp-edged and doesn't crumble apart, it will make sparks.

I have had this for several years. As he said, it is fantastic. I carry it around when doing yard work /light trimming. I also have the somewhat larger Silky GomBoy which mostly gets used after storms if there is not a lot of debris and the chain saw isn't needed. Both these saws almost make it seem like a knife through butter. When you want good cutting tools, the Japanese are hard to beat.

Great vid. As an arborist I use the bigger Silkys while climbing. Been thinking about the Gomboy for my bag. These saws will cut through your fingers with ease. Plenty of arborist with tendon damage and orher wounds from these saws. With a 7,000 lb 12mm climbline under tension of a climber, one miss lick with these saws will cut the rope immediately. As easy as a chainsaw.

In case you haven't seen them, Silky have a range in the Pocketbook, Gomboy and Bigboy range called the "Outback Editions". I think you would really like those ones as the blade has a blackened nitride coating, the hinge mechanism metal hardware is black while the grip is in a Dark Tan colour that I'm sure would resonate with you and your Chanel viewers. I have both the Pocketbook and Gomboy's and will add the Bigboy simply because these are amazing. Check them out.

Silky's are great! Bit of a learning curve on Japanese saws, cutting on the pull stroke. It's easy to put your strength and weight into a Western cut saw blade on the push stroke. Do that with a Japanese blade and you'll bind it easy. Pull cut saws are all about rhythm. The Silky Zubat is also an amazing saw!

The one thing I never see as part of a saw review video that is always found in knife reviews is what type of metal the blade is made of. I read that with my small yellow Pocketboy, Silky uses SK5 steel. I’m not sure what other types of steel they may use.
