Edward' old, but he'll surprise us all. As for favourite episode involving Edward, it would have to be: Old Iron I know Edward's Exploit is regarded as the best Edward episode, but I find Old Iron to be the more action and in tense and better than the original book.

Agreed. I do think that Exploit is objectively the better story, however I feel that Old Iron simply translated better to the screen during the time period in which the episodes were made. Both are fantastic though.

Edward's Exploit is nit only Edward's best episode, but one of the best Thomas episodes ever! Edward is like the Captain America of Thomas, he can do it all day. Also if you still take request, maybe do a video on how you would adapt the RWS book "Thomas And The Great Railway Show"

Edward is my favorite character and I’m so happy how the classic series portrayed him as an old wise engine who would risk his life to save his friends and would literally rip himself apart. to accomplish his goal and I would love to see more episodes where Edward is in character, supporting character than him being a main character when he’s out of character, the way to hit series portrayed him

Edward’s Exploit is my favorite episode of all time. Old Iron if I could name my three favorite episodes from Season 2 it and Edward’s Exploit would be one of them.

Edward always felt to me as the most reliable and trusted of the Fat Controller's engines. He's the one that just gets in and does whatever work he's assigned. He doesn't have the ego of Gordon, Henry or James, nor the childishness of the little engines like Thomas and Percy. He's always there to help or offer advice to the other engines. A big brother to the little engines while keeping the larger engines from getting over large ego's. That's why he's always been one of my 3 favourite engines along with Thomas and Toby.

Edvard's is one of the Kindest engine through out the franchise.

As a kid, Edward used to be one of my least favorite main characters (cause I always prefer characters w/ flaws). But with time as I got older and like the big engines, I gained a new value respect for the old blue engine even after learning his true origins in the creation of Thomas. Without him, there'd be no Thomas at all, and so he's become my fourth favorite character. This is another excellent video you did about your favorite eps about him. I respectfully disagree about Old Reliable Edward (I can see why you and everyone else loves it), but I'm just not a fan of Brenner's portrayal of Gordon and I think Edward should've just brush it off like he does in the original. I will say him and Thomas' friendship still shines. One way I would rewrite this and Very Useful Engine all together is 'Respect for Edward' where a foreign engine (it can be whatever) is rude and prejudice about Edward being a victorian design and the ones that help the old engine take him down are Gordon, Henry and James having already respected Edward by this point and return the favor to him. Here's my Top 5 favorites of Edward: 1. Old Iron (also my favorite Edward episode too!) 2. Hunt the Truck 3. Saved from Scrap (the US Ringo Starr version. Also I had seen a little of those mean-spirited memes of Trevor and children which I agree upon that). 4. Edward's Exploit 5. Edward the Great

Edward can also be gentle and can get upset over little things. Like in "Bertie's Chase" when he cried about Thomas being late.

Great list! As for Edward being upset with Gordon, I always headcannoned that as Gordon having been a jerk to Edward for a long time and Edward's patience was starting to wear thin. Edward might be the type to be able to brush most insults off, but nobody has unlimited patience and tollerance for such harrasment, not even Edward. He is shown to be sad at Gordon's remarks in his very first story after all. Edward never ever being upset or unhappy with anything would not only be unnatural, but that WOULD be out of character. If Edward is upset with someone, that just shows that they've gone too far. Even so, I mainly like Old Reliable for it's portrayl of Edward's friendship with Thomas, something that we don't see enough of.

Seen it and it's great. The only reason it's not on the list is because it's more of a James episode than an Edward. Maybe I'll be saving it for a future list... ;)

Since Edward is the least prominent out of the main 7 engines, I suppose it makes sense why his top episodes video would be a top 5 instead of a top 10. Anyway, Edward has really grown on me recently since my life went downhill these past few months.

Too bad Edward wasn’t as prioritized as much as the other Original 7 by Allcroft from Seasons 3-5 (even Duck seemed to be more favored as he was at Tidmouth Sheds way more) but I can see why as he’s just the other third blue guy in the middle (Thomas is the small blue guy and main character, Gordon is the big blue guy, Percy is the small green guy, Henry is the big green guy, James is the red guy, Toby is the brown guy with the unique design, and then Edward is just the middle blue guy) plus it’s hard to write stories for him anyways as a lead character if it’s not just about his old age as he works best as a supporting one. I’d rather have him be sidelined and be the supporting character in a story than have him completely altered into becoming a jerk just to have something written about him (during the HIT era it seemed like they just had to write something for all the main cast members where stuff just had to happen for Edward Toby and even Henry at an extent even if they didn’t know what to do while they actually seemed more motivated to do stuff for Thomas Percy James Gordon and Emily then). It’s understandable why Edward and Henry would be chosen to be written off the Steam Team for more female characters over the other males as not only was not much being done with them but they aren’t as iconic or focused on as Thomas Percy James and Gordon are while Emily’s already female though I can see why Edward would be kicked off first planned mostly before as they probably could’ve had more with Henry.

At least Edward got lead roles in some episodes once in a while where he's in character alongside supporting roles.

I'm glad I caught this when I had the chance. I do agree that there are ways the TV series could've improved on "Edward's Exploit". For one, it was hard for me to tell if it was actually raining because I couldn't see any drops falling and they have set pieces for a hill that Edward could struggle to climb up. Why couldn't they use it? However, regardless, if I had to pick my number one favorite, it would be a tie between that and Old Iron. If not for the reasons you mentioned then it would also be the rivalry between James and Edward. I always felt that their rivalry is stronger than the one Edward shares with Gordon. They're both mixed traffic engines who couldn't be more different from each other if they tried and even if James is dismissive of Edward because of his age, he's still grateful for his help. Almost like a little brother who once looked up to his big brother but he now wants to earn that same respect for himself. It would've been nice to see more episodes with those two engines together and how their relationship compared to Edward and Thomas. Once again, great video. Got the wheels in my head turning.

It’s worth noting that “saved from scrap” would play into season 3 in the episode “escape”.

I knew you were going to mention "Old reliable Edward"! Thomas and Edward were the biggest Chads of this episode. 😎 Goof: You spelt reliable wrong. In your Thomas and Edward video you could've added some moments from the CGI Era that had sweet moments of Thomas and Edward that you may or may have not recalled such as in "Hero of the rails" where he and The Steam Team engines help Thomas restore Hiro and stand up for him against Spencer and in "Mucking around" he advises Thomas to ignore Max and Monty. 4 Edward episodes you could've mentioned shouldve been "Edward the great", "James the second best", "Keeping up with James" and "Hunt the truck". Edward the great: A fine HIT Era episode of a parody of "The tortoise and the Hare". "James the second best" and "Keeping up with James": Both are about James being paired with Edward and Edward was in character unlike some of the other bad Edward episodes in the HIT era. Hunt the truck: We all know that this episode is from the BWBA Era which is known for having Edward and Henry not being in the Steam Team after the events from "The fastest red engine on Sodor" and "A shed for Edward". They weren't fully gone yet as they had some cameos, mentions and speaking roles and this episode definitely gives Edward alot of screen time. He was a total Chad for putting Bill and Ben in their place by growing wise to their hunt the truck game.

Thankfully Mattel didn’t completely get rid of Edward and Henry. We fortunately still saw them in seasons 23 and 24 despite the former season reducing Edward to just a cameo.

Edward is my favourite character of all time

I'm not sure what my top 5 or top 10 episodes of Edward are. Because I have to watch the series again. However, my favorite Edward episode is "Edward's Exploit". Although I would have thought it would have been better if Edward had 3 express coaches instead of 3 yellow branchline coaches. It's a very good episode. I especially love the beginning where Duck & BoCo defend Edward. Which makes sense considering Edward helped Duck when Diesel told lies about Duck. And the Edward & Bill and Ben theme is very good. And the moment where Edward managed to escape from a terrible situation is simply great. The ending where Edward, Gordon, Henry and James shows what he can do is just great. There is one episode where I like the original version more than the restored version. In the original version, the climax scenes were made darker so that you can see that it is a terrible situation. In restored version it looks like late afternoon with a few clouds. "Edward's Exploit" is one of mt favorite episodes of the series.

Yeah, I'm surprised that they never gave edward the bogey coaches for Exploit. They had them, so it would have made perfect sense to do so.

Can’t believe I didn’t comment on this one earlier. As I was younger, I didn’t really have any favourite Thomas characters, but as I became older, slowly it started to be Edward. Edward is the type of engine, that u would WANT to be in a way. As I started to grow, the more I felt like I was the “peacemaker” and one who oils give advise to throughout high school, especially when it came to younger students and even listening to my friend’s or boyfriend’s venting whether I was part of it or not. Heck, Old Iron was the episode that actually made me come 3rd place in a cross country back in primary school. What do I mean? Well, sometimes I would picture this episode especially when it came to a “danger” scene or every time I ran, this episode was on my mind and would play in my head therefore pumping my adrenaline to sprint and the soundtrack also was a big boost. I still remember sprinting and my legs were aching very easily, as I don’t really run that much so I pretty much felt like Edward on that day lol As I said before, I love the little engines, especially Thomas defending Edward. Just like how a child would defend their parent from a bully, very sweet :) I’ll admit that I do wish there could’ve been a movie about Edward.

My favorite thing about Old Iron is not only how tired Edward looks but also the way his prop actually wiggles and moves as the chase happens as if he really is trying to catch up with all his breath while James prop is relatively still as it runs along. I’m aware thats a coincidence due to how the models work/were built but its a really nice one.

But in terms of best James and edward episodes, James the Second best would be a understatement. it gave us the perfect verison of Edward from the classic era and we get to see a Side of James we never seen beforehand. also it have the most creative crashes of The Thomas the tank Engine brand.

Another great Video, my Favorite Classic Episodes is Old Iron and Edward's Exploit.

I never thought of Edward having a limp in Old Iron but that's a fantastic point. Edward went into the chase at like 50% yet risked ripping himself apart because his friend was in danger. Dang, we need a lot more Edwards in the world.

If my memory is correct, I think Old Iron was the 1st Thomas and Friends episode I ever watched when I was a kid back in 1995. This is easily my favorite Series 2 episode along with A Close Shave for Duck. The Runaway scene and it's UK instrumental hits me so hard!

I think we can all agree Season 2 is THE Edward season I can't wait for the other famous 8 I predict Flying Kipper, Henry's Forest, and Haunted Henry for sure. I could honestly predict Henry's Hero too pretty great CGI Henry episode.

The Fat Controller says I’m a useful engine.” Edward may not be a primary principle character, but is a crucial component of the cast and has an impact on the other characters’ arcs. He gives Gordon humility, he is an unwitting peer to James, and is a role model to Thomas and Percy and helps them to grow. My favorite Edward-centered episode is definitely Edward’s Exploit, with Old Iron at a close second. Although the original RWS story has a better visual of Edward’s situation, I won’t deny the atmosphere, score and tension leading to the blue engine’s greatest triumph. I also want to give points to Edward’s Brass Band, for cleverly writing Edward in a main role that isn’t forced and doesn’t flanderize his personality.

Great top 5! I'm not sure what my top 5 is but my favourite is Old Iron

Can you imagine if Edward and Gordon in the TVS was not a mash of 2 stories and Edward's Day Out would be a separate episode? That was be the most boring episode ever, just ''Edward felt left out, driver let him out and he went back to sleep''😂

While I'm not sure it counts as an 'episode' I also think The Adventure Begins is a brilliant character showcase for Edward. We not only get Edward and Gordon adapted, but we see his mentor role in full display with Thomas. I also like the tweak that Edward gave Thomas his goods train without permission. It's a breach of rules Edward normally follows to a tee, but you get why, he just feels so sorry for Thomas and wants him to have his moment. Even when it backfires he is forgiving to him. This is a sweet fella.

Yeah, The Adventure Begins was an excellent showcase of Edward's true character.

The wise engine is one of my favourites and I do think there’s some standout episodes for him I do agree with both Edward’s Exploit and Old Iron are 2 of his best.

Can't argue with any of those, they're all classics. If I had to pick a couple of other Edward episodes, then.... EDWARD'S BRASS BAND (S7) - Whilst not one of the high-tier episodes, it is notable for being one of the few times in the later model series where Edward feels in character. It's charming, and Edward comes through in the end in a different manner to usual at the time. EDWARD THE GREAT (S8) - This largely deserves credit for being basically the only decent HIT era Edward episode. Whilst, yes, it starts the whole "Edward is old and frail" trope that plagued him for a while, it's still a nice little Tortoise and Hare retelling. HUNT THE TRUCK (S22) - There's probably a reason why this is universally considered the best episode of the BWBA era this side of "Thomas and the Royal Engine" and I suspect Edward may be part of it. It's a nice little story focusing on his relationship with Bill and Ben, something we hadn't seen in basically forever, and it shows he's still one step ahead of them after all this time.

Season 2 is peak Edward.

TBH, I would have put Edward, the very/really useful engine on the list because: 1: Gordon (as usual) acts like an ASSHOLE to Edward. 2: Even though Edward is having his doubts about whether he should retire, he still pulls through to go out of his way to help both Duck and Gordon up the hill. 3: Gordon comes to his senses and admits that Edward is really useful (and yet the cycle continues in later seasons).

Edward never shows any doubts about himself in that episode. Don't know where you got that from. The closest he gets to that is when he asks who will look after his trucks while he's working with Stepney, which isn't doubt. It's showing concern about leaving his work for others. Plus he never shows doubts about helping Duck and Gordon, hell he's actually excited to bank 2 trains.

I’m actually glad Old Iron subverted my expectations and yeah, your reasons are completely valid Also if we’re throwing a bone, I will say I like A Shed for Edward, on paper, it could’ve been a great story more so focused on how James once again (unintentionally this time) screws over Edward, but could focus on how the old engine needs his sleep, with the montage of attempts, just a shame it’s nothing more than a write off.

Yeah, I think it's a good character display for Edward all things considered. A rare one that writes him as a flawed instigator but he still feels like himself. It's interesting seeing Edward having to deal with a chaotic engine who is yet being super nice and friendly, so Edward lacks the heart to scold or fire back at them, trying desperately to avoid a conflict. I also just love how he's portrayed at the start of the episode with Phillip, especially when he's lecturing James. A shame they didn't actually do anything with him and Phillip since it felt like they had potential.

Edward’s Exploit used to be my #1 favourite, but, as you pointed out with the limitations the modellers had to do with Edward’s prop, it has changed my mind about it being my #1. Old Iron is now my #1 favourite, not just in terms of Edward episodes, but also out of all the episodes this show has had to offer. So, basically, I’m the same as you in terms of latter two on your list. I’d just also like to point out about the opposites: The episode adaptation of Old Iron is considered superior to the RWS story, while Edward’s Exploit in the RWS is, probably, considered superior to the episode adaptation because of the restrictions the model makers had to make do with. Honestly, how ironic can you get?
