The thing that I really appreciate with your videos is the fact that you work with golfers who have set up and swing issues that many of us can relate to and break it down into small chunks of adjustments, which deliver fantastic results. Your explanation as to why the change is required and then the demonstration of what specifically you are adjusting, is terrific. Keep up the great work guys, these live lessons are pure gold for us frustrated golfers!

This is excellent guys!! Thank you so much. I’ve been playing golf a long time and recently noticed I am over swinging. The combination of the grip adjustment and the wild slow backswing helps greatly. Left arm stays straighter and definitely more consistent shots

I've been playing for over 10 years, I've never had a lesson up until a month or so ago and the grip was one thing my instructor got me to change. Although it felt a little strange as i'd been used to how I'd been gripping the club up until then, it made an instant change, it straightened my drive up and also helped not only more consistent driver strikes and iron strikes but also added 20/30 yards distance to my game. Amazing how one small thing like that makes a huge difference. Great video guys :-)

This is a perfect example that a lot of errors comes from faults in the basic setup! Often i find myself over-complexing the issue and ignore some of the basics! It also shows how important the grip is. I thkin a lot of people just accept their grip, maybe cause it feels comfortable, and therefore are not thinking that may be a part of the problem and hence a solution! I do that myself, too often. I have tried for weeks now to be more forward weighted in my finish, and have never thought it may be due to a too wide of a backswing! Im surely gonna try that drill today on the range. Thank you for another great video!

Kind of in tears right now..... Was in a terrible car accident that i had to learn to walk again etc..... Well after a lengthy recovery i picked my clubs back up and going to the range etc i found i no longer was able to play as good as i used too and no longer able to swing as i used too..... So i had to re-learn my entire golf game again which was frustrating going from as good as i was to barely able to hit the ball correctly. Well through countless hours of practice and seeing where i was messing up im now slowly getting back to being able to enjoy myself playing again. This channel has done absolutely wonders helping me get back to enjoying myself on the golf course again. You really dont know the miracles you all are doing. Ive seen many people on KZread who pretend to know what they are talking about and thankfully my previous knowledge about golf has allowed me to weed through alot of the bs on KZread. This channel has been my guiding light throughout the whole process.

Great lesson guys, I too had my first ever lesson not so long ago and the main thing to come from it was shortening my back swing and to encourage a touch more hip turn, definitely a work in progress and using the mirrors down the range is helping create the much shorter feel ( feels more like a 3/4 swing when done correctly ). Still struggling to limit the swing length on the longer clubs but shorter irons definitely an improvement. It’s probably reverting back to long clubs thinking I need the speed in the longer back swing where realistically the correct length swing and more hip rotation will give the desired outcome.

Good to see you covering basics like alignment and grip, and the importance and effects they have. So many people are quick to jump to trying to make changes to the way they swing when they have problems where a lot of the time they'd be better off checking the basics of address and making sure they are sound. I like the advocation of holding the club very much in the fingers of the right hand. Steve Elkington advocated that and held it that way himself. I also like the advice of the palm of the right hand facing toward the target (not at the sky or the ground). If you look at the grips of Ernie Els and Nick Faldo that was the way their right hand looked on the handle at setup. Finally I liked the advice of a backswing with more width at the top (having room between the hands and rear shoulder/head at the top of the swing). Less wasted effort, less time and space to take things in a wrong direction, and as you said less deceleration and stalling to try to get things to catch up. Good overall lesson.

I have complained on perhaps a half dozen golf videos about how the information is next to useless for the vast majority of people looking for help, because the person doing the golfing is usually a very good player. This man swings the club the way I do, like a novice who has some athletic ability. I feel VERY strongly that if this good fellow can do it, so can I! That is far more encouraging than watching a semi-pro show me something that is supposed to help me! Wonderful job to all 3 of you (and your camera operator as well). Many thanks and cheers from a new fan in Canada!

I’ll look through past videos for this. Do you have one about “mindset” and mental side of golf? After bad shots I really listen for what playing partners say to the group or to themselves, vs comments after good shots. Personally, a few years ago, I stopped “explaining” my shots. Makes it so much easier to move on to next shot.

Great video guys. This is exactly my problem, even though I play off 3 , my driving is shocking. I play 3 off the tee at least once a round because of a vicious hook that sometimes I block because of EE. I believe my problem is taking the club way too inside in the takeaway. Trying to play more out to in but it feels so over the top because of what I’m used to. I only play an iron off the tee in summer just to keep a ball in play.

Holy crap! Didn’t think I’d find someone else who understood the swing like I see it - the swing is a natural move - our subconscious physical make up has the design to transfer a projectile - the easiest way to do this is to get in your posture, imagine the person you most want to slap in this world - they are on their knees in front of you (not examining your crotch) and their head is exactly where your hand is based on your arm in a natural hanging position - now slap that person with your flat palm to their face as hard as you can - video that motion - you will turn naturally to create torque and deliver a perfectly flat square palm to their face - your momentum will even carry you through to a finish as the persons face isn’t actually there. At no point when you go to slap that persons face, turning as hard and fast as you can and delivering a hard slap straight to the side of the face with a flat palm did you stop to look at a “position” e.g when you skim a stone on a lake as far as you can no-one in the history of the world has stopped half way through the skin to look at their shoulder position or their plane or their turn - they just knew via a pre programmed natural human motion how to launch that projectile from one place (your hand) to a point in the distance, that motion that required no conscious thought of the technical and physical science behind transferring that object is the same motion for a golf ball - just imagine that your right palm that was turning to a position and returning to deliver a slap completely square at return as was at address - all that happens now is imagine the club is your arm and the face is your hand and now that persons face is on the floor to slap - so the club face is just an extension of the palm you used to slap - so turn with that club and train yourself that the club head is now your hand and would turn away square and return square with torque built up. That’s it - every single lesson, “secret”, video on a broken down part of the natural motion is a con to give someone a false temporary confidence and come back when it runs out. Do it right now - get in posture, picture the person you hate the most on their knees with their head faced towards the privates and the side of their face completely square with your palm that’s hanging with your arm naturally in a relaxed position and your hand touching the side of their face, then purely slap that face - you’ve just used the perfect motion to transfer a golf ball - now add the club and simply the face of the club is now your super long arm relaxing naturally at ground level and will now turn and slap exactly the same as when they were on their knees only now their head is on the ground - your palm is now the club face - turn that away as you would your palm and slap that face on the ground, that’s your golf swing - the only thing professionals work on that make them look like to the public non understanders is purely their speed and torque in the natural motion which they can optimise by enhancing the key attributes in the body that create that move - so they’re all using the natural move but they purely work on and practice the different speed at which the motion can be done (how hard you slap or can slap the person with your right palm in posture) to produce different distances for the projectile to land at your chosen target and basic things like where the natural position is for the ball to be struck with the palm at optimum natural contact. That’s all they do, as with the stone skimming analogy - they don’t break the move down into sections to consciously alter the natural motion - it doesn’t enter their mind - they’re just aiming the stone and the motion happens naturally - that’s literally all the optimum perfect golf swing is.

Great lesson. As a PGA professional I recognize the instructors not wanting to change too much at one time but, The next thing that absolutely must be addressed is the locking and straightening of the back leg. Watch the tour pros. The leg should remain in a flexed position, and the knee should stay inside the back foot.

Alignment is always an issue for me. Grip: so bottom hand weak, top hand more neutral, yes? Shorter backswing drive your lower bottom thru?

His ‘fix’ was simple, and as common as rain in Spring. He needed width, which when created in his backswing, aligned everything up for a free swinging follow through.

What would the amount of grip on the shaft be in a 1 through 10..10 being the firmest grip.. I know when chipping short shots you want to barely grip with the traking hand.. what about driving the ball? Thanks

Excited to get out today and work on this! I've been suddenly topping my drives..no idea why. I was always a pretty consistent slicer. Worked on that. Turned it into a fade. But now I'm rolling ground balls :(

@Golf GUY OZZY, the main reason I see for this is that topping is caused when u make yourself stand up a bit at impact. So instead of squatting on the down swing u do the opposite and stand up. Give it a try, you shall see.

Too many things to think about and nothing gets done so priority for Stu was his back swing length. Would definitely look at this down the line but one thing at a time with swing. Especially when he hasn’t been playing for so long.👍🏻

I saw that as well. It’s easy to see the glitches in other folks swings but have a problem doing it with my own LOL…I noticed immediately that he seems on his heels and would lift his right heel off ground well after swing was finished but was not actually transferring weight during swing…now if i only I can fix it in my swing..this is why these videos are great…

  • @sanfordsson

A lot of people erroneously think that grip only influences the club face but it also influences swing path. If your grip is too weak for example you will likely come over the top.
