I've had a collie for the last 16 years. One was a rough and my current one is smooth. They are the best dogs. Both did/do well with kids and just great part of the family.

I would also suggest reading the books published by the Monks of New Skete. They help one evaluate temperaments (they were instrumental in developing the widely used standard/test), address problems, and teach one how to raise a puppy so it will fit in with your family. I read them years ago. New ones have been added since then, and some have been updated.

I read that book years ago. It’s so wonderful. We have three standard poodles and two mini poodles and I followed their quick eval on choosing a puppy and we have five amazing dogs.

A vote for the boxer. As a young adult couple who had a boxer I was always sad we didn't have children as he would have loved to have been a family dog. Just loved people!

I had a collie when I was 16 I wanted Lassie. My parents were awesome and got me one. My siblings were two and four at the time and he did amazing with them. The kids were always watched. Make sure they were respectful. My neighbors have two boxers. I’ve never been around boxers. They are amazing. They have five kids extremely autistic those dogs protect those kids are so close to them. It is adorable to watch. I had a golden retriever. My kids were two for six. He was amazing with the kids absolutely the best dog. I think I’ve ever owned. I own standard Poodles now. I did not want any more dogs here in my house. Lol Thank you for a wonderful video. I just found you and I’m very much enjoying your videos

I've menioned the Norwegian Elkhound in response to some of your previous videos, and you have mentioned octogenarian breeder, handler, and show judge Pat Trotter in your responses (and she is a remarkable lady! These dogs are a bit toward the small end of the large dog range, or the big end of the medium range at weights 45 to 55 pounds. They are quite active, as you would expect of a 50 pound dog that hunts moose and bears and keeps the wolves away, they have the double coat that sheds like a Norse Legend, requiring brushing every couple of weeks, more frequently when they blow coat, they cn be stubborn, but as one of te most ancient European breeds, they are quite adaptable to a variety of household dynamics. I have never seen a breed as attuned to their family pack, generally friendly but sensibly protective, and absolutely loyal. And, let's face it, the most distinctive-looking of all the northern breeds and the best heating pads in the world..

What's up with the Labrador retriever? We have an 11-year old Golden retriever and an 8 month old Labrador and they're so much fun!❤

Thank you for watching and your comment. I didn't include the Labrador Retriever, and yes, it is a great dog. Yrs ago, I went to adopt an adult Chocolate Lab and it nearly pulled me off my feet. It's not that I don't think they're great dogs, but it's one breed where you need to know ahead of time whether you're getting the show/conformation line or the working line. Because there usually is a difference in body structure and temperament. Also, many people are really familiar with the Labrador, so I decided to showcase other breeds that people might not think about.

How could you not mention the Labrador Retriever? They are the most loving and loyal dogs on Earth! Plus they are great with kids, fun loving and active and trainable. There’s a reason they are the most popular breed in US for over 30 years
