    Another absolutely brilliant video. I really enjoy your relaxed approach to it all, as well as the soothing background music. A lot of similar videos can make astrophotography/astronomy seem daunting and out of reach to the average person - but your channel makes me feel involved and welcome. Helps me appreciate the minuscule role we all play in this grand creation. Appreciate all of your hard work 💪🏻

    Personally I tend to go after the non--mainstream / not popular targets to image. Its great to get your own data on these common targets but there is so much more out there that deserve the attention. For example Abell 1656 the coma cluster which is filled with over 1000 galaxies, which is located in Coma Berenices there is also the Hercules supercluster, Leo Supercluster , Virgo Supercluster

    Dear Michael, another great video with some really interesting targets. Thanks for sharing this with us. My 2cts . . . at least in the first half of the night M35 is stil another rewarding target. I only have a focal length of 750mm with my Newton, so Galaxies are quite challenging, but summer time is coming soon. Question to you - do you use any filter to photograph galaxies? I was thinking of us using a CLS CCD filter from my bortle 5 location? Greetings from Germany, Frank

    Hi Michael. Thanks for the video. Being a newbie I always hear different seasons for viewing. Could you elaborate what the seasons are. Thanks again.

  • @LateNightAstronomy

    @LateNightAstronomy

    I've always tied them with the Northern Hemisphere's seasons where I live. Spring time is really good for galaxies for example. Summer is nice for globular cluster. Winter with everything in and around the Orion Constellation is my personal favorite!

    I always look for some of the more obscure galaxies. I just imaged NGC 4535 with my 8" Edge HD with the 80% field reducer. Stellarium identifies it as " The Lost Galaxy of Copeland". F 7 which makes it quite a challenge. You really need to do multiple nights to do it justice. But I got a pretty good image with about 80 subframes. It covers about 25% of the frame so it's got a nice size. I'm happy with it. Until I image it again. ;o)

    I have a Nikon D5600 and Tamron 18-400mm F3.5-6.3 and skywatcher star adventure 2i. Will I be able to shoot some galaxy with that gear? In June I will get me the redcat 51.

  • @LateNightAstronomy

    @LateNightAstronomy

    Yes. We have a very similar setup actually. I started out shooting my first galaxies around 250mm. Now I shoot most with a fixed 1135mm lens. They are definitely small, but I'm amazed at the detail you can still pull out in post processing. I have read good things about the redcat.

    would you suggest using or not using a filter like the L-Extreme to offset some of the local light polution?

  • @LateNightAstronomy

    @LateNightAstronomy

    Жыл бұрын

    I have found light pollution filter to be helpful with certain kinds of nebula and supernova remnants. I often use a UHC filter and O-III filter for visual observing depending on the object! I personally have not used an L-Extreme filter.

    Having just got started in in Feb 2022, this was the perfect video for me.. Orion is running lower and lower in the night sky for me (Best I can see in Bortle 6). I know these are very faint objects, but If I can even get a few pixels worth of imagery, it would boost my confidence in tracking with my Star Adventurer 2i.

    Agreed. I just got an SA 2i, and have been using the Orion Nebula for practice (doesn't help that it was cold as hell, so I couldn't really stay out as long as I would want). It's not quite as easy anymore. I need to find other targets to continue practicing.

Then Color cal in Photoshop, then its over to PixInsight (I am still learning this software, stilllll) to do the stretching and other work. I plan on getting a proper goto mount in the near future... yes the bug has bitten me :)

    As far as I'm concerned, galaxy season is ending. I've been imaging all of those galaxies for months, We are now entering globular cluster season with many fine targets overhead before dawn. It is fun to compare the magnitude, size, and star density of globular clusters. Plus there is the early morning treat of planets rising in the eastern sky.
