You don’t command your own troops but A Legionary's Life is an rpg where you play as a soldier. It is text based indie game. Otherwise Total War Rome Remastered is basically exactly that as you role play as your faction leader commanding troops.

Yeah I know I’m being to optimistic but I mean I high production polished game where you live in the huge city of rome where you play like a adopted son of a senator so you work your way up in the high society of rome first starting out owning a small house in rome doing quests around the HUGE map of the city of rome eventually owning like huge palace villas as you work away, and then when you go off to war it’s like a sub game where you own a century, cohort or legion doing campaigns of however the gameplay is built and every time you come back from campaign you go back to the city of rome with your spoils buying more property, working your way up the sentator til you challenge for consul or emperor, idk obviously more detailed and fleshed out than what I’m explaining but you get what I mean

@@keithethel7391 I think you want a game like The Guild mixed with Mount and Blade I guess but based on Rome? That sort of game would never be high production or polished it would have to be an indie type game. As well having good army combat and the open city and political intrigue would be hard to do and the audience for that wouldn’t be very large since it is 2 very different games in one.

As a romophile, I think teh perfect roman game should be a city builder/open world rpg where in the story you rise through the ranks to eventually become the roman emperor, where you can then make the roman empire the greatest it could ever be, in every way. But of course, that would probably be very hard

@Daniel Deering Yeah it really does. What I meant was the Imperator 2.0 update lol, but I supposed you’ve tried that? In my opinion it makes the game what it was supposed to be at launch, but I definitely want to see more. CK2 and EU4 are in my opinion the best Paradox games, but Imperator is so cool in its own way, just not at all at the same level of depth and possibility and… seamlessness? that their best game are. I hope they go back or try again, I hate seeing this era abandoned when there’s SO much cool going on here.

@@AndysTake Np, I'm always on the look out for games in Ancient Rome - but apparently too many devs see Rome and think its a curse when it isn't. The real reason is you guys do all the research that is the devs, you get the game ready. But seeing now that you've added a huge map - you don't know how to test it - so the Q and A teams don't do well because of budgets and cutting out stuff. Rome isn't cursed, it's the fault of the company and the investors that want a half-baked release out into the stores, and thus they don't test half their games half the time tbh.

It seems that majority of people (including people in this comment section) prefer games from rise of Rome or its gold ages, but I think that more games from end of it might be nice and they are really rare. Total War:Attila did great job with showing misery of being the emperor of such masive empire, while its size is burden rather than benefit. More games, no matter if player is commander or just common soldier, from times of Roman fall might be pretty fun (in an unpleasant, masochist way 🥲), with even better feeling when you actually, against all odds, succeed (or witness fall of your empire in the process).

TL;DR : Some questionable choice of games, but a good quality overall. Keep working hard ! So no mention of Hegemony Rome : The Rise of Caesar nor of Hegemony 3, which happens in the very early days of Rome, but you put in MODS for games ? AC:Origin which barely has anything Roman in it, and a to this day still broken TW:Rome 2 ? I dunno man, it looks an awful lot like your research was very lacking. Not saying you can't put those games in there (I mean, Origins clearly feels like you needed one last game to your list and saw Caesar for 5s in the game and went "that'll do" but anyway), but it's clearly missing of a ton of games which deserve the spot much more than some dumb Ubisoft game. Heck there's also the entire Settlers series; the excellent Caesar series of city builder; other older games such as Alea Jacta Est and Praetorians. Hell even a gladiator game like Domina or a chariot race manager such as Qvadriga should be here. So, why am I arguing so much about something which you could say is "just your opinion" ? Well, because it's my opinion that the choices made are rather uneducated one. The fact that the title is "The Best Current [...] Games" is a call to objectivity. So considering the far fetched nature of some of your choices, I strongly feel the need to vent it. Note that some of the games I cited are not even what I'd call great games by the way, but they sure as hell are more deserving of the consideration than AC: Origins. Regarless, to end on a more positive note, I like the way you presented the games and your speech in general. I've enjoyed your more recent content and hope you'll give some consideration to some of the games I introduced. Needless to say, there's always gonna be someone to disagree with you no matter what you post on the internet, so I hope I haven't been disrespectful in any way, but reading back I wouldn't care if I receive my own message so all good for me. Keep up the good work. Edit: Typo correction; Repetitions.

  • @AndysTake

    2 жыл бұрын

Well, I am a historian, my friend. Sadly, there is no board that certifies historians, since “historian” is not a protected title like “doctor”. It’s also nice though, since that way, history is something that can be retold and uncovered and debated by many more than a group of “certified” people.

@@pinedragon5398 You also have to consider a thing about history - unlike many scientific fields like, say, a doctor, there IS some degree of speculation that goes on. EVEN WITH primary sources, you often have to take them with a grain of salt, or be extremely skeptical of many claims, and numbers are often wrong, and you can never be sure for what purpose or agenda the material you're reading has behind it, nor the actual validity of it. The only way to verify such things for certainty is archaeological discoveries which line up with what texts say. There are times even those whom you may consider "certified historians" - can often disagree what happened even amongst themselves. I have seen in multiple ancient books where the historian commentating disagrees with what the original historian put down, and have even seen where a commentary (with another commentary by another historian) disagrees with the commentary of the other historian! So it's hard to have an "official" source - especially for ancient historical materials - because it just simply cannot be agreed on fully. There are certain points that are fairly undeniable with archaeological discoveries, but too much remains mystery or up for debate. Also, it's something anyone can pick up and learn - you just read the primary sources, and to get an extra leg up, you read on archaeological discoveries and anything relevant to what you were reading, you could delve further into. I've always viewed history as more of a hobby/passion than a career profession like a doctor - there's simply not a lot of opportunity out there for historians. Not saying it doesn't exist, but the demand for it and the amount of jobs related to it is much lower than other professions.
