I have Thursday scouts for 160 and they were comfortable to wear at work plus being built pretty well. It’s my first pair of boots and I’m happy with them

I came across your channel recently watching waxed jacket videos. You do a great job. I had the Red Wing Weekender Chukkas for a while and wasn’t a fan. It was just too floppy and unstructured all around, but especially around the heel and toe box. And the outsole was too thin and uncomfortable underfoot. Which was really too bad because I absolutely love the copper rough and tough leather. I’ve never heard of Rhodes or Astorflex before so I can’t comment. But I just recently got some Thursday chukkas with a wedge sole and I’m in love. They fix the complaints I had about the Red Wings and the Safari Brown leather makes for a really sharp and beautiful looking boot.

Those Rhodes Tyler look like a stitch down construction to me, but it’s hard to tell from just the video. Still should be able to be resoled either way though 👌 Nice review!

Good video, trying to understand what Chukka I would like. After trying the Thursday boots Chukka, I was SO TURNED OFF by the feel of them when walking I returned them. Maybe they needed to break in but it was a choice of return or try to break in and hate them still. Then I found the Sorel Madson II Chukka in Tobacco and immediately bought them for their comfort and style. So here I am, looking for videos trying to understand what about that boot I loved and how can I try other brands with similar feel. Rather than give up and just buy another pair that I beat on and one for looking nice on weekends.

I'd say the two most comfortable in this video are the Danner (at a half size up) or the Astorflex. The Danners are more rugged but the Astorflex is a great date night shoe.

Chukkas are my favorite "boots" because they are the closest to sneakers without being sneakers, (former sneakerhead here, lol). I own two pairs of Clark's desert boots and two pairs of Thursday Scouts. The Scouts by far are my favorite. Out of your group, the Astro Flex are my style of Chukka. I prefer the suede or rough out look on chukkas versus the traditional leather that I prefer on service/heritage boots. Great video!

Some flat waxed laces would probably look nice on those.

I had two pairs of chukkas and just found myself almost never reaching for them or they weren’t my top choice. I sold them and don’t think I’ll get another pair. I’d rather have a rugged oxford/derby. I have a pair from OSB and love them. I also think you can rock them with shorts whereas chukkas you really can’t IMO or at least I couldn’t. That said, great review and I still watched the round up! Haha

I love my red wing chukkas but Rhodes continues to impress me …I’m hoping Rhodes comes out with a wide fit so it works better for my feet!

100% a wider-fit Rhodes would be great.

Id suggest Jim Green chukka boots. They would be cheaper then any on your list, comfortable, able to be resoled, come from a great company, good quality as well.

@@DressForAfrica i dont like a lot of branding either. The nice thing about Jim Green is you can custom order at very little to almost no extra cost. The boots i have you dont even notice the branding it blends in so well. But when i order a pair of chukka's ill probably request the branding to be left off the back. I may have it put on the tongue though, easy to hide when and if i want to, but still a fun little touch. 🤷‍♂️

How’s the arch support on the astorflex compared to the ones with wedge sole, I’ve been wanting some Chukkas for some time and I’m on the fence cause of the crepe sole.

I’d say it’s average. But the removable footbed means you can throw an orthotic or something you like better in there.

I have a red wing store in the area and have tried on the weekend chukka. I really liked it at the time, but didn’t pull the trigger. I may have to at some point in 2024.

@@stephen562 It's pretty soft rubber so I wouldn't imagine super long if they're going to be worn all day, every day. I'm not worried about them, but they're not as hearty as the Danner soles or something with a Vibram sole.

I have a pair of Thursday Scouts - they're comfortable, but rather heavy (I suspect due to the thick sole) and just narrow enough around the toes to be uncomfortable. I don't have a wide foot, but I can't stand shoes that squish my toes. Would you say any of these 4 has a wide toebox?

I would say the Astorflex has the widest fit. I've found them to be plenty roomy and comfortable.

The best chukka for the money is made by Jim Green in South Africa. They are called Vellies but for South Africans they are looked at being just shoes. The are built like a boot a real chukka without the high price.

They’re made with a type of stitchdown construction so (in theory) they should be able to be resoled.

The original chukka (Clark's) not even included?

The Clarks Desert boot is a classic! I’ll probably do another “best chukka” next year, and I’ll see if I can get a pair to review.
