Gunman. I've been a painter since I was 18. I am now 56. Used and bought many guns. Sprayed many cars, bikes, and garden gnomes (long story LOL). I just purchased the FLG5 from SGD and I am blown away! The FLG5 in my opinion hands down is hard to beat for it's price and versatility. My current profession is painting jetliners. This old dog just learned a new trick and am grateful for your videos. Keep up the great work mate!

Bought the flg5 round 7 months ago and was using it for everything. Now bought a gti pro for my clear but still use the flg5 for primer and base. All because of you Gunman I bought it, Ive learnt from all your videos and now I've done 3 full resprays now, I get people coming to me for small jobs. And they come back and are more than happy with the work. It's now my full time job and haven't worked for a body shop and don't plan to as I enjoy being my own boss

Hi Gunny. Been watching your videos for years, you do a great job. I just ordered a FLG5 from SGD in the UK. They beat the best price in oz by around $40 or more. Been painting since 1966, first decent gun I have ever bought. Sick of guns that work for a while and then start spluttering and dripping. Keep up the good work

On Gunny's rec' I bought 3 SGK600BV's, 1x base, 1x clearcoat, and 1.8 for primer (the browny coloured one). Have sprayed plenty of solvent base and clear through them. Today I sprayed Auto Air sealer and Sparklescent pearl water base on an aircraft - worked well. Although, the smaller tip would have helped with the pearl. Didn't entirely like how the 1.8 sprayed (pattern uneven), but gets the job done. Just got an Iwata Bellaria and a Lotus WS400... will be interesting to compare. Devilbiss always felt strange to me, might be because I sprayed Iwata suction feed 25 years ago with acrylics and enamel. Not used to the oval pattern, and gun so close to the work. Gunny brought me into the 2000's, and made painting enjoyable again. Thanks mate.

I agree with the fan pattern being it’s only downfall for an average gun. Started with this, now it’s my primer and back up paint gun for simpler, less important jobs. It’s an excellent primer / sealer gun. The limited fan spray just eliminates it in a lot of situations or higher end jobs. The gti is still the workhorse in our shop

Hay Gunny , hi there from South Africa , Flg5 great gun bought mine on your recommendation from sprayguns direct been using mine for around 4 years still going great , I actually got a Satajet 5000 rp 1.4 that I bought from a bud for 150$ but tried everything can't seem to get Japanese finish right no problem with the Flg5 , won't believe it but I'm using that Satajet for 2k primer wat a waste ! I'm a Diy guy but put out about two jobs a week constantly , that's after hours . Saving up for a pro Lite but but with the 💷 to Rand exchange rate it's pretty expensive about what two complete sprayjob would cost ! Always a pleasure to watch your vids !!! They say if you don't ask you'll never know so I'm asking , if you ever have a pro Lite gathering dust for a decent price I'm in the market ☺ !!

Dam I bought this 4years ago when first starting out BASED ON YOUR REVIEW THEN, since then I have tried alternatives but I still come back to this gun, so much so only 4mthd ago I actually bought another lol, yep I like it that much, but yes I'm still a newbie but after 4years I still haven't found a gun I like more,in fact I actually like it more than my GTI, Yes I know the GTi is better but to me it's just prefer this over the GTi....so to summarize thanks 4years on and your up to date review is saving me money, because that best cheap gun from 4years ago in your top ten is still the best cheap gun according to you,for me best gun I've ever used from a none pro

Great vid, and thanks for all the education over the past few years. Got my hands on an FLG5 -18 to shoot acrylic lacquer. It's using so much paint and pumping out so much in overspray, I think I must have the settings wrong. Great review Gunny, I recently upgraded my primer and clear guns, got the GTI Pro Lite T110 1.2-1.3 for clear and a FLG5 1.8 for primer, also waiting for a 1.4 needle and nozzle for solvent basecoat but didn't realise there was a 1.3, don't think spray guns direct sell the 1.3 separate, well they didn't list it when I ordered the 1.4 a few days back. John UK. EDIT: just went and checked and they do sell the 1.3 separate, how did I miss that? hope the 1.4 will be ok for solvent base!

I have the sata 5500x I 1.3 and it does in fact spray a bit heavy at the top of the fan. However I can adjust the pressure and fan to find the sweet spot where it sprays evenly, but obviously I shouldn't have to. I plan on getting the 1.4 o kit for it as it doesn't put much material down. But i don't like to spray slow i usually move fairly quick.. And also I bought mine new in box for just over 400 usd on ebay and have seen many sell for that, even the 1.3 o. And no its not a knock off. Regardless of the negativity of the sata name, the build quality of the 5500 is all around fantastic.

I use the FLG5 for 1k Primer and sometimes 2K Single Stage Paint or Clearcoat. I love the Sata and Iwata Guns, but for the price (in Germany it's around 100€)) it's a really nice gun. Easy to use, easy to clean, kind of a workshopwh... you can throw around and don't have to care a lot about and still works. The point about the retaining ring on the aircap is rather a positive thing to me when it comes to cleaning, I can't really see an issue there. Sure, it's not the prettiest gun on the market and not the best made, but hey, look at the price, what do you expect?! Even the cheapest Satas (100 and 1000 Series) start at around 220€, the Iwatas are even a little bit more expensive here. Especially for beginners or DIY guys it's a really good gun to start with, in my opinion. But even as a professional in a workshop, for Primer, 2k Single Stage or just as a backup Gun, you will be happy. Greetings from Germany!

I learned about spraygunsdirect on your vids I am interested in the Graco razor that is listed on spraygunsdirect. Have you ever review it or plan on doing a review on it. It looks like a nice American made gun. Am trying to stay away from knockoffs.

Thank you for your videos. I never spray painted a car therefore, no nothing beside what I learn on KZread. Would it be possible for you to propose a detailed beginner’s spray gun kit, supposing that the car is ready to be primed. Thank you in advance ! Keep up the good work !

Hey Gunman, love your vids! I'm looking respray some bumpers and maybe a quarter panel for a sedan in 2k base and clear. My compressor is limited to F.A.D of 178l/min (around 6.2CFM) and 36l capacity. The FLG5 keeps on being recommended, but will that have no chance on my comp? even if patient during passes? Would you recommend something like the ani r150 mini instead?(well within the cfm, but needs more pressure according to your vids) I take it the 1.2m tip would still be able to shoot whole panels

Would you rate this one higher than the GTI with a TE20 aircap? I'll be using mostly direct gloss 2K paint to restore classic cars. I like the paint to lay as flat / glass like as possible to minimize buffing. Another alternative I'm considering is a satajet 100 BF RP. Especially also interested in your views regarding a 1.3 vs 1.4 tip, I've always used 1.4 but always had slight orange peel. I think the 1.3 would lay flatter. Thanks again

Great video. Question on one of your other guns. Have you tired the HVLP cap on the sagola 4600 extreme. I am looking for a new base gun for spraying standox solvent. I see that you have used the aqua cap. Just wondering why .

I've been following your channel for years, ever since I've had to do a cheap and nasty respray with an ebay gun on my falcon shockwave blue ute (being an aussie you probably know about the ford shockwave paint debacle). For ages I've been looking for a better gun to redo the whole ute properly, but I've been bounced around and had no garage for too long. Anyway, I looked you up again for a gun review because I still intend to do that one day but now I have a different immediate project in mind. You piqued my interest when you mentioned water based paint. I'm still looking for an upgraded gun, but baring in mind I can't guarantee a roof over my head these days this isn't going to be a gun for life, I just want to sort out my shit and not leave a mess behind and the gun will probably have to be sold before I move on anyway. I'm looking for a gun to respray a different project car interior with water based paint/dye made for leather and vinyl. I thought this would be an opportunity to get a decent gun with a couple of tips/nozzle sizes. Previously you recommended the A.N.I. r150 mini gun but sprayguns direct only sell that with the 0.8mm tip now so if I get that it may work with the interior stuf, may not, and then I'll have to get the $60 1mm nozzle for interior, and $60 for the 1.2mm for the ford shockwave at least. It's $200 for the 0.8mm possibly useless tip and gun, extra $120 for the 1mm, and 1.2mm plus $50 post. Do you still recommend it at AU$370? Have you found anything better since then, especially as they are pushing the 0.8mm tip now only? I'm looking for 1mm to maybe test with water based interior paint/dye, and a 1.2mm for the main tip to fix up the falcon ute, (my old star has 1.4 and 1.7 so that will do for primer). E: To be clearer I'm just going to start with a mingun since I do have a full size star. Local aussie options with a $300 budget are star s016t-j $140 interstate, or locally in WA a prowin k320m $179. I was willing to buy the ani from sgd for $200, but put off by not having a nozzle choice and its $60 x2 to cover my options, Is it still recommended or should I just buy a larger gun with more local range and prices? I'm not choosing to DIY everything but it seems I have to, I ended up DIYing my headliner because upholsterers/motor trimmers have a waiting list in these cashed up covid days.

Hey mate, so the R150 had been through a few revisions since those days, it's actually now called R160 and it's actually a decent improvement. I actually have one in 1.2 or 1.0 I could sell you one for $100+ postage, email me at thegunmanraw@gmail.com and I can send a pic if you like

Ordered on Friday from the US and it arrived from the UK in 4 days via DHL. Super fast. I dont think it would arrive that fast even if I bought a gun in the US. You need to also note that you can buy other size needles and caps for the gun on their website. I also got a 3M adapter.

I had the same good experience from Spray Guns Direct in the UK. Actually I ordered this gun on a Thursday night and it was here Monday afternoon! I was pleasantly shocked. It was also my first experience with DHL. There tracking was accurate and superb, I especially liked that they text me when they were only a few deliveries away.. I appreciated the heads up. I have the FLG5 and it has worked great as a primer gun. I noticed that the last couple times i used it, it leaks air from where the need goes through in front of the trigger. I have cleaned the gun and need, I have tightened and loosened the nut where the needle goes through but no change. I have also changed needles and still have the issue. Have you experienced this before?
