Hi Satch, after entering your competition to win your old 986 Boxster, and not winning, I thought why not just buy one? So I did! Bought a Speed Yellow 987 manual in July. You inspired me. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.

These are probably the most underappreciated cars in the Porsche lineup. I have a '06 base Boxster, and am constantly surprised at how good it is. I track it at Driver's Education a couple of weekends a year with the Porsche Club and am astounded at the track performance. And in the wet the guys in the GT3's get scared and park, the base Boxster is a blast.

That's so awesome to hear! I've seen a few Boxters at the track with roll cages and all. They're beasts! Quick question, do you have a roll cage on yours? I would love to buy one myself and track it but I probably would not be able to afford a roll cage for a while.

@@miniaddict4534 My local PCA region allows the Boxster for DE events without a roll cage. You are supposed to sit lower than a 2x4 or broomstick bridging the front window frame and the roll hoop. For racing a roll cage is likely required, and would presumably strengthen the car

USA view, Houston Texas. Owned a 2008 S for 6 years , post IMS bearing issue. Had the tiptronic , was the best in class before the PDK and average users would not notice. Sold in 2019 for $28000 with 25 K Miles. My worst decision ever. Here we have highways, miles between turns and stress on the brakes and the car. Most reliable car I ever owned ! best build quality and engineering. (I'm 62 yrs old and have had many cars) Loved it ! Wanted a 911 but never regretted my 987 purchase, 90% of the speed for 50% of the price - buy one ! Best sports car ever (yes including the S2000) !

From Naples, FL. I am the original owner of my 2014S with PDK and special Amareth Red color. I ordered it July of 2013 and it arrived October of 2013 as a 2014 model. After 4 previous BMWs this was my first Porsche. In 88K miles of driving it has had no mechanical problems, NONE! I do all maintenance except changing the plugs, to difficult to reach. The car runs flawlessly with plenty of power and always gets over 30mph on the highway. I plan to show the car in the `Naples Cars on Fifth’ car show next year. Stop by and say hello.

A big thanks Satch for tipping me over the "buy an old Boxster" precipice. I went for a 2007 987 2.7 58,000m. The ulez compliance was a big factor for going entry level. As you promised, it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. All initial thoughts of garaging it over winter are out the window. I am driving it every day, and when I'm not driving it, I am thinking about driving it!

I’m just about to hit 130k on mine! I’ve had it three years and done 10,000 miles. I’ve replaced the suspension, water cross over pipes and Main seal. All the breaks and tyre were replaced needing new rears now! And I’ve serviced it 3 times + starter motor and drivers window mechanism. , all work done at Porsche bringing my running costs to 6k over three years. I brought the car 4 £5500 in 2019 got a good deal engine is still sweet drives spot on and I absolutely love it! Can also defo recommend falken fk 510s for tyres great in the dry amazing in the wet ( if your caught out ) good luck 🤞

The Tiptronic gearbox (Mercedes 5G-Tronic) is actually quite smart. It is a learning gearbox, which means it adapts to your style of driving. Out of the 250 maps it has, it would always start is the most comfortable setting, which explains the lazy and slow shifts. Later when it recognises spirited driving, the gearbox would shift to its sportier maps. To engage its fastest setting, you would have to stomp to kickdown on the pedal twice. It would've been nicer if Porsche adjusted the mapping of the gearbox, so that it does not shift like an S-Class when you start the car up.

I am in the UK and decided on a 2007 987 2.7 5 speed for the following reasons - 1. My second car and first porsche so didnt want to tie up too much cash. 2. 2.7 engine is over £300 per annum cheaper in road tax. 3. 2.7 is not too fast and needs to be revved before it comes alive and its fast enough on UK roads. Boxster feels very planted and safe. 4. From 2006 Porsche used the M97 engine with bigger non serviceable IMS bearing - I saw a guy on youtube in USA who races them and said that the M97 engine is near bullet proof. 5. In my opinion the 987 has the timeless Porsche look both outside and inside if you want a modern classic. 6. I wanted 5 speed because I read that this feels more old school 911 and just seems classic old school. 13:04 7. Its so good with the top down as it was designed to be a roadster and in my opinion does evoke the spirit of the 550 spyder. I also love the cayman by the way. I bought my car from a dealer - 107k miles £10k with a warranty - had to fix a few bits exhaust started blowing after I had done 400 miles sounded terrible but was just corroded gaskets / connectors and was a cheap repair. Its still on original clutch. I have mainly driven BMW 320s and Golf TDIs. The Boxster is of course in another league to the.above and is wonderful to drive. Get one whilst they ard giving them away !!

I have an 08 base 987 5-speed boxster. Bought it six years ago with 30k miles on it, now it has 60k miles; not quite my daily driver, but not just a period weekend car either (based on the insane appreciation of all things Porsche, I think it may be worth more now that what I paid for it!). I stay on top of the required maintenance, and have had no troubles at all with it. It goes through back tires every 15k miles, but the soft rubber it part of why you buy one of these! Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! I’ve had German, Japanese and US convertibles for the past 40+ years; this is, without a doubt, the best driving, most enjoyable of all of them.

Just great cars and if you use an independent Porsche specialist then costs are very reasonable indeed. I have a 2005 987 manual on 120000 miles. Regular services, always used Porsche parts for any work done and the engine is superb! For anyone looking to buy one, the only poor detail I can come up with is the ridiculous positioning of a control unit box under the passenger seat. Even with constant cleaning of the sink holes this area is prone to get wet on occasions which will eventually Corrode the box leading to a £800pound charge by Porsche to replace it....absolutely stupid place to put this box! Other than that this car is superb, handling, MPG, everything is exceptional!

I found mine at a Porsche dealership and they CPO’ed with less than 49000 miles on the odometer. The only concern I have is how noisy the motors/mechanicals are for putting up/down the top. Just how much noise should these tops produce? Nevertheless I am very happy with the car and it gives ya much different and more enjoyable experience than my Cayenne and my wife’s Macan. Keep up the great content; and thanks. 👍

The top shouldn't really make any noise other than the motors running. If you're hearing knocks or any banging kind of noises, your transmission gears are probably broken. It's about $50 a side for replacement parts and a few hours work removing/replacing the gears. My Boxster had one side that was making a terrible noise and the gear was broken into about 4 pieces. Replaced and everything is good now!

Over the last 4 months had to have a new clutch, then the gear selector cable broke and then a set of coil packs a month ago (best part of £1600) for all 3 issues. Drove like a different car after ( light clutch, precise gear changes). These issus are most probably age/milage related. Do I regret spending the money? No, the cars worth every penny spent.

Got mine about 8 months ago, 3.2S manual in black, definitely a heart ruling head situation. Bought at a local dealer 80k miles, full service history, £10.5k. It's one of those cars where the previous owner has spent a fortune on the oily bit's (stopped counting at £12k bills) but spent NO time on the body etc, took weeks to get it to a nice standard. Every time I look at it I think i've made a mistake, after five minutes driving it i cannot stop grinning. My main thoughts on the driving experience is if you have come from any type of modern turbo car it will feel sluggish, ring its neck and you suddenly realise this is a quick car.

Front suspension, struts had corroded at the top, ended up replacing the whole lot, springs, top mounts, bump stops etc. Coil packs were cracked, Porsche released a newer version so replaced all 6. Radio and heater buttons go manky, replaced with new/oem. Wheels powder coated, callipers powder coated red with Porsche logos. New discs and pads all round, & new fluid. Front dust covers (behind discs). New clutch, RMS and IMS gasket (has larger IMS bearing, phew). The car makes me smile every day, love it, and love working on it.

I had the same problem, if you put a little strip of sticky foam tape along the outside edge of the deflector, it totally kills the rattling noise! It was driving me crazy and now my car is totally quiet.

Hello, I have the same 2005 Boxster S ,manual transmission , 45,000 miles, good condition in Hong Hong. The re selling value will be around 15K - 20K. Since I’ll be moving to UK soon, I’m thinking whether I should ship it to UK or should I better and easier to find a similar one in UK. Shipping will cost about 30 K pounds. Your advice is appreciated.

As usual, lots of interesting points in there. Didn’t realise I could fit a sports exhaust to my ‘06 gen 1 Cayman. I thought it brought up an error message. Without going to Belgium for a refurbished one, any advice from someone in the know would be great please.

That looks like a few months worth of stone chips on a brand new MX5. Awful thin paint. I've viewed lots of ones that have done only a few 1000 miles looking like that.

I bought a 2009 Boxster 987 gen2 last August, with PDK. It only had 45,000 miles then and 51,000 now. It passed MOT in November with no advisories...... I put four new Pirelli PZero tyres on the car for the MOT. I use the car as my daily driver and am so disappointed with the harsh ride, any drain covers, bumps and lumps, and dips in road surfaces and it just does not ride smoothly at all. I'm now considering selling it for something that rides more smoothly as it gets tiring having that kind of poor ride quality. Had the shocks/springs checked at MOT with no problems. Why on earth do Porsche make a car that has such an uncomfortable ride quality?

I agree, although when I put new tiers on it, it improved the ride some what, so I am surprised that your new tires didn't improve your ride. Some one told me on the newer Porches they have electronic shocks that are supposed to make it ride better, but they are probably not retro-fitable, and probably expensive, yes these are not daily drivers, but great weak-end and or track cars.

Strangely the decision regarding keeping it or not was made for me. Put the car into Cotswold Porsche for a service, the mechanic finished the service, took the car out for the post service test drive, was involved in a very serious accident, so serious car is a CatA total loss and will be crushed !! Their insurance duly paid out (after a fight) and I now have a Mercedes AMG SLC cabriolet all the bells and whistles, only 5 mph slower the the Porsche but with sports plus, lowered suspension it goes like stink.... and rides properly with a better degree of comfort !! Job done !!
