Hi, we live aboard our seawind 1160 for the past two years and for us the availability of diesel and not petrol in isolated places and fisherman’s harbours and the long range we can get with diesel and the extremely good torque that you get with gori props means that you can move the boat around in wind easily and accurately. I know you need plenty of revs to move the boat with the outboards but if you are not going long ranging outboards would do. You only need that one electric winch, no need for another . Seawinds are incredibly strong boats and don’t flex at all and so they don’t creak at all, there is zero creaking sounds , dead quiet , excellent little ships . We’ve had trouble with the screecher being too enthusiastic when the wind gets up over 15 knots and you’ve got to get it down early or you will damage it, so I have done twice. You can’t go wrong with a Seawind. Tough tough tough.

My 2 cents - No microwave, understandable, but have the space wired for it. Same with the diesel heater, see what the cost would be to plumb/wire for it. Added bonus if/when you decide to move on to a bigger boat. Nice boat, nice views - enjoy!

Yes as a trucker I have a diesel heater in the sleeper and that thing is ultra hot too hot as I have to be careful about where my boots are as the heater can melt stuff and wreck leather .Still even in Northern Canada that heater has kept me warm . They use only a tiny amount of fuel

Ok, I absolutely love the boat and I think you guys are going to love your future cruising plans on your boat for sure, the one and only thing that I noticed on the boat that to me just seemed a little odd was the wast tank in the one engine room, I’m probably just over thinking if something was to go wrong with the Polly tank in that space what the outcome would be,, but I’m totally convinced sea wind has thought that all out😉🙌⛵️⛵️. Can’t wait to see you guys on your own sea wind soon👍👍⛵️⛵️⛵️⚓️⚓️

I know you two are sailors, but boy as beautiful as this boat is; I’m a trawler girl at heart. ❤️ I hope a when your new boat is ready, you have managed to add a few more of the options you thought you couldn’t afford. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 You made some extra $$$$$$ on the sale of that gorgeous trawler 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺 Your workmanship on the rehab of the trawler was of real quality. I hope the family that bought it, simply love and adore her and make happy Family memories.

Obviously great for mooring and docking, but I like the elevated view, it would be brilliant for seeing the coral bommies, especially as the sun drops, or hasn’t risen enough, and you’re setting off early. Another consideration in the decision tree for 12V "cigarette lighter" receptacles vs built-in USB plugs is that USB technology is constantly evolving and you can always buy the latest and greatest USB adapters that plug into the 12V receptacles. However, if you have the factory install USB plugs then you'll be stuck with whatever the current technology was at the time of installation. You might also put the dimmer option for the all of the overhead lights on your priority list.

The other problem is built USB plugs and sockets are subject to rapid wear and failure and not easy to fix.. a more robust plug in adapter is more serviceable and their are already too many USB type format variations . Which also have limited current carrying capacities. 🤔

Cheers to the Crew, congratulations on the wedding. Is the shower enclosure in the head, glass ? That needs to be plastic for safety ! Is there a single helm option looking over cabin top rather than looking through the cabin ? What are the prices ? Yes, you will need window screens to help with hot green house effect in the tropics. When is your delivery date ? I find the 12v plug in adapters dangerous, had some melt in use. Better to have the USB plugs. Cheers, Sail on.’😀

I think that tri-fold door is AWESOME! Looks like you guys are getting a nice boat since it's pretty much a carbon copy of what you're on. Just something to think about with the cigarette lighter ports vs the USB ports, you can easily turn a cigarette lighter port into a USB port but I don't think it's as easy to go the other way. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Cigarette lighter ports and USB ports are both easy and cheap to install later if needed especially if one or the other is already there, just piggy back off the existing wiring and don't try to use them both at the same time.

Suction cup hooks ok for charter......if you own the boat you can fit your own fixed hooks! Also would look at a removable front deck shade sail (that can come later) Would a paravane spinnaker be better than standard asym....didnt quite get what your sail material and rig was going to be? I think the boat looks like a great fit for you guys, cant wait.....for me 45' is a sweet spot (but get caught in vortex of blue water, range, renewables, big solar, big battery bank, larger tender - escalating wants).....but aint got the funds for any of that

Great Tour. I almost wish I could get on with Catamarans tbh, the motion in not uncommon wave sizes and frequency just messes me up- it’s a Corkscrew Motion thing, with waves hitting hulls at different times. I don’t experience it on Trimarans and almost bought one years ago, but three hull costs of haul out, extra maintenance plus Marina Costs totally blew through my available Budget. tbh, a reasonable Beam Monohull has served me well over the years as long as the Draft isn’t that much deeper than a Catamaran, I’m pretty much set on an Island Packet IP 439, and just wish I could still get by with the IP 349 as that was total ❤️ at first sight. Best Wishes for many years of great fun on your new boat, and maybe see you in the Caribbean in 2024. I’m getting it Registered in the British Virgin Islands, a piece of cake for a British Subject, and having it delivered there to complete the Registration Process, and fingers crossed, will be able to give you a holler to come over for drinks and a BBQ- just figuring out what BBQ to get, as I much prefer Charcoal over Gas ones. Hmm. Maybe get both, so the Charcoal one can be small enough. Fair Winds and following Seas. Bob in Wales. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌟🌟🌟⛵️

Love Seawind cats! Carefully designed by sailors for sailors with all of the stuff you need for comfort, safety, and rare performance in a 38’ cruising cat. We plan to charter one of these for a trip to the Exumas next year and I think they are perfect for 2 couples or a family. One suggestion is to consider keeping the many 12v cig lighter outlets. They are universal high output charge outlets that can run up to 6 USB ports, laptops, camera gear, handheld radios, or anything you can imagine with inexpensive adapters. As devices evolve over time I expect there will always be an adapter available to use these 12v outlets. One question: Could this be a pocket world cruiser for crossing oceans? With one reservation I would say yes. Plenty of comfort and protection, enough water and stores. I would probably rig something to reinforce the tri-fold door during a crossing to protect it from the possibility of taking a big sneaker wave over the stern, crashing through the doors and flooding everything in one shot. That should be fairly easy to rig and then just de-rig when you make port to enjoy the open floorplan again. What do you think?

Since I sail in the North Sea I'd keep the Webasto. However, since the tropics is also on my playlist I'd reserve space/opportunity for an A/C unit. Maybe you should think about a reverse installment plan, ie keep space for a heater? Then you won't burn any bridges for future sailing to incredible and totally off-grid places, either up north or down south?

I would happily live on that boat no problem. I think I looked at them a few years ago and it's the same issue I have with all new catamarans, and all new boats. My budget is more oriented towards used boats lol. I added usb ports to my boat. All the cigarette lighters are is a positive and negative wire, so you can put in usb or 12 volt socket or something else. My boat is from 1978 so I use the 12 volt for a fan I plug in, but I added usb by the bed and helm because of phones and tablets. When I bought the boat the 12 volt socket didn't work, but luckily someone had added a newer stereo with a single usb so I could charge my phone. That was handy when my boat got impounded by customs in Friday Harbor and I needed to hire a customs broker to help with importing paperwork and they are all in Blaine, so a working phone was important. I also have usb plugs on the charge controller when I added solar panels. I don't think you can have too many.

Hell yeah. Nice boat I think when you get your cat you'll be able to upfit and add all the things you want. Ya don't have to buy all the upgrades. Up front. Hell it's more fun building out a project the way You want it. That way you know what works and ya end up with what you want. 😁🥃🚬👍

Hi you two. Could you tell us more about the sailing ability of this 1160. What is her preferred point of sail, ability to point, how did she handle seas and so forth? I am very interested in this model but have not be able to sail it …

Consider resale value with your boat, even though you think you will not sell it? there are things that used boat buyers are go to want no matter where they sail, diesel heat, opening and closing cabinets, electric winches, auto pilots, and many more little things. Electric toilets in the long run are expensive, motors are not cheap, good quality hand pumping toilets will save money and not leave you with a non working toilet. It’s always a challenge picking options when you buy, cheaper and easier to get in now, than to think you will put out cash money later to but options. If your financing, do a spread sheet on your options and how much more a month they are costing you, make decisions based on that. I love your channel and I’m excited to see your new boat.

I like the fire suppression port but don't you think that some sort of a sight glass would be a nice addition so that you can tell what's going on inside the engine compartment?

It seems a while ago you mentioned you were getting the outboard option. Still the case? if yes, what uses are the spaces where the Yanmars are. Also, you guys are good at fabricating stuff, so I would think you could do cabinets somewhere down the line.

Not bad, tho what do you think of the excess 11 or 12 over this? I wish they had an electric motor for this and some type of hydroregeneration system under sail. I think only a petrol or diesel option is not enough. It would be great to be able to go completely off grid on one of these, with only solar hydro and wind energy.
