In this video I take a look at my favourite camping gear over the last 12 months. All my opinion but the best tent, backpack, sleeping bag and pad for me anyway. Not forgetting of course my favourite camp stove.
Thank you to valley and peak for supporting my adventures in 2023.

What a year you’ve had Paul 😊 fantastic. Please keep the “real” content going, you probably don’t realise how much people look forward to your posts, especially those who are less mobile.Your a credit to the outdoor community.Nice to see your name popping up from across the pond btw.It shows what a good channel you have “the outdoor gear” review.

I second your comments 😊
A couple of quick tips 🧐1 A piece of j-cloth in the bottom of your pot to prevent stains 👍 2 A sea to summit air chair to properly convert your mat in to a chair.👌 All the best to you and Jo for 2024 😉

.. Similar comment , wrap a bandana around the canister before putting in pot , can also be used for cleanup ,,,, or put canister in upside down , add stove and lighter on top ..

Another option for the canister is to cover that bottom lip in a thin strip of black electrical tape.

@@rockytopwrangler2069 That's exactly want I do the gas cannister upside down with the J-cloth to protect the pot and stop the cannister from rattling small lighter in the concave of the gas cannister just incase the the piezo inigtor doesn't work on my soto windmaster 👌😉

Wow I know it's late when I had read last half of your comment 3 times because I read the 1st as banana, not bandana 🙈😂@@rockytopwrangler2069
Wishing you & Jo all the very Best for 2024. 🍾 🥂
In case you want to modify your Unna: there is a company in Berlin called outdoor-service. They make repairs and modifications on Hilleberg tents. Of course they are certified by Hilleberg and use only original materials. They modified my Unna front door so that I can now choose between fully mesh on the front door or fully original fabric. So the complete front door now can be mesh what gives you the feeling of literally sitting outside.
I put a piece of cloth between the gas canister and the cup to stop the rust appearing. Cloth is useful to clean etc and works well to stop the rust and gas hitting the cup around while hiking.

You and Jo are just lovely folks (at least what we can see of you both). Thanks so much for taking the time to put these videos together to share with us. I have been watching you long enough to know you had a bit of a dark spell with it, and (selfishly) I'm quite glad you pushed on and I feel like your content is better than ever. We need to get you across the pond; you should come visit Colorado and we'll show you around, and maybe do some 'overlanding'. Be well mate. I hope you both have an absolutely stellar year coming!
Thank you Paul, fab video and will help me for first wild camp planned for 2024! Happy New Year. Please keep the great content coming ! 🎉

Paul, I have enjoyed watching you and look for many more videos in the coming years. Nemo has a new pad out. It's expensive but supposed to be the warmest and comfortable too. Another quilt company that has a setup like bringing your own bed is called Zenbivy. I have the synthetic one. Happy New Year to you and your family from the US.
Thank you nice video, happy new year, 8-)
Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year. I wish you and Jo all the best and I look forward to seeing your adventures in the new year. All the best 🍻

To stop the rust from the canister I stuff it in an old ankle sock, works a treat

Nice to see you talking about gear again. That was the reason I joined initially. The search for budget gear brought me here and your reviews.

Fabulous round up Paul. Thanks for all the great videos that you’ve shared with us over 2023. Hope you’ve both had a great Christmas and Happy new year to you. Oh - and I hope the lack of proper caffeine is having an affect where it’s needed.

Happy new year Paul and Joe .....see you next year
All the best for 2024 Paul & Jo,look forward to all your future content..just on a side note regarding the Sea to Summit Comfort Light sleeping pad I use that religiously on all my camps & have never had an issue with it regarding comfort etc,I have a really bad back, hips & knees but have always slept great with that pad,in colder conditions I put a Thermarest Ridgeraider underneath it & have never felt the cold at all. Thanks for the entertainment & information you've given us all in the past 12 month's it's very much appreciated.
Good job , looking forward to watching your adventures in 2024 🎉
Hi Paul. I've watched most of your videos. I do like how you tell things as they are. All the best for 2024 . Billy 😊
Keep up the good work Paul and regards to Jo also. Your videos are a joy to watch. Really looking forward to your exploits in 2024. Would love to see you explore other parts of UK. And surely it is about time you developed your own brand of tent, sleeping bags and backpacks??

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Paul. I hope 2024 is even better.
Happy New Year Paul, I look forward to 2024’s videos and seeing where you go and the gear you use. Wish I had the knees to do as much as I want to 😂
Way to go, Paul. Looking and sounding great. I'm doing the 365 challenge in the States, looking forward to the trail miles and seeing more of your adventures. Take care!
All the best for 24 Paul all been fab thanks ❤
Happy Crimbo and look forward to great recommendations in 24!👍🏼
Glad to see you are liking the Unna. It’s such a nice tent. Simple and reliable! I might have to checkout that fire maple pan. Hope you and Jo had a great new years!
Paul! Two (2) things id love to see from you this year... 1. A log of everywhere you went, how many nights you've slept outside, miles hiked, maybe gear per trip, etc. If you don't have it, log for this year! 2. Videos of making your own dehydrated meals! Yes, please!
Happy New Year 🎉
Happy New Year, Paul. Like other subscribers, I do like your gear reviews; even though you've stated you're not interested in doing them much any more. Look forward to seeing more of you in 2024.
I really appreciate your opinions and experience, keep going fella, I'm a long-term fan...
Hi Paul I predict the X Boil will be THE go to stove in 2024, so simple and well designed. All the best to you and Happy New Year 😊🎉
Great video and good timing as about to get back into camping this year and after a long time off
Thanks for the videos this year Paul , best wishes for 2024 🎉
Nice one Paul, all the best mate. Keep going pal.
Great video, love how the Messner channel is evolving and this summary of your best bits is spot on. Thanks to you and Jo for the entertainment in 2023 and all the best for next year! ❤
Thanks for the great video. Really enjoy your observations from good use. The bag looks great - you should consider seam sealing it for waterproofness. Another thing to consider is one large inner dry bag/stuff sack/rubbish bag, and stuffing your quilt (quilts don't like being compressed), clothing and softer gear down the bottom of the pack. More efficient than separate dry bags for everything and lifts the heavier stuff off your hips. Much quicker packing up too. With your cup and the rust that forms on the bottom of the gas canisters, I try to dry them down thoroughly and put a light cloth at the bottom of the cup before nesting the canister. Also dry out everything when I get back. Love the Unna versus Soulo thoughts!
I bought sierra design synthetic sleeping bag with the top quilty bit, went synthetic cos of dog (and long haired committee has to sign off on price) love the design but wish I have gone for down just on pack size, ATB for 2024❤️👍🏻
Love it Paul, some great gear on show… really need to get that lower pan support for the Mars Radiant stove! I must have the Wardle Edition 😅.. Looking forward to 2024.. 👍🏼 All the best.
Some good tips there. Particularly about taking some extra luxuries. Look forward to more vids next year.
Glad to see the trusty Cup still makes the list 👍👍
Hiya Paul Luke mentioned you in his channel recently. I hope you had had a good christmas. I am a new sub on here and instagram Thanks for the great videos throughout 2023 . Good health and happy camping in the coming year
Thank you for your gear ideas.. I too am a jetboil ‘fanboy’ from ur earlier videos n couldn’t be happier. Plus sea to summit pad was a great choice.. now just to try the quilt ur using. I know u don’t like too many product reviews but it has been so helpful 😊
Happy new year to you both
All the best to you and Jo
All the best in to you and your s . Great reviews don't change ,👍
Nice one, Paul! I'm preparing to walk the PCT in 2024 and I've been mulling over my backpack choice for months. I was so, so close to buying an Atom Pack Mo EP50, but I've finally decided to go with the Durston Kakwa 55. It's almost half the price and seems to have all the same features... Plus it doesnt have a 12 week waiting time! Only problem is that I'll have to pick it up in the US, but that's not the end of the world - I'm ordering the Durston X-mid Pro 2 at the same time so... 🤷♂️ Thanks for all the videos, mate. A great help as always. Have a fantastic New Year with the missus!
Happy Christmas Paul. That little rust ring can be prevented with some electric tape on the lip of the gas canisters.
Happy new Year
Great video as usual paul
Tack Paul
Nice video. Interesting to see which bits of kit you favour, it's better to listen to someone who's used loads of different stuff, no agenda, just honest favourites :) Crazy too that your favoured cook set is some stainless steel and a basic burner, with all the clever options for cooking, sometimes maybe it's easier to stick to the basics. Less to go wrong and free of tech. Lovely little video. Happy New year to you!
I to have evaluated things I have a few years on you lol and sure your a lot fitter . I have no needed to get to the top ,just enjoy the day as long as I’m out . All the best for 2024
All the best to you and Jo for 2024 👍
Got a Fieldhopper table on the way thanks to this channel. Now wondering if an alcohol stove would be better than gas cans... Great info
Been a joy to watch your content over the last year. Keep it up in 2024. Would have been nice if you did a cost of the gear as you went along, you could then also provide a cheaper option . Not everyone can afford over £700 on just a tent!
We live our highlander stove like your fire maple we just pop some kitchen towel in the bottom before packing away, absorbs moisture then can pop burner and pot holder inside on top of kitchen paper towel
Cheers!
Think the reasoning behind Quilts costing more than sleeping bags even though they have less material is down to 'Economies of Scale ' in the manufacturing process. As Quilts are still a niche product compared to Sleeping bags.. All the best for 2024 and lots of new adventures Paul 👍
