I bought a tent for 14 euros ,16 dollars. I hiked all over France for a year.This tent held out rain ,hail ,a 2 week snowstorm in the Pyrenees and hard winds on the Atlantic coast. Two 26 euro sleepingbags that kept me warm upto minus 15 celcius. 25 years later I still have them for memories sake. I love the fact that it costed next to nothing

@@elenabreck8958 best tents for the money are oex and karrimor. Oex bobcat is the best for one person and a karrimor panther is the best for a couple. Both are 500mm waterproof outer pitch 1st. Both can handle very high winds. . Bobcat is 1.7 kg and the panther is 3.2 . Both are around £100

I'm an old white beard guy with minor mobility problems, so I pack my gear into a Western Flyer kids wagon. I put a Home Depot plastic tote and a cooler in the wagon, and can easy take 50 or 60 pounds of gear into the woods. Thanks for showing us affordable gear that makes sense. Loved the Wal Mart video !! So many folks are making outdoor type videos that are BS. Look at me, building an off grid something right next to my $75000 new truck, tractor, ect... Ends up they are ten miles out of town and 800 feet off the county road. Thanks for teaching us common sense fun ways to indulge in out outdoor hobbies. good job.

They’re a little more pricey, like $200, but you should look into the gorilla garden carts. They’re molded ABS plastic, with air filled rubber tires, and the bed dumps when you pull the handle. It can be pulled by hand, or hooked to a tractor. Its pretty much replaced my wheelbarrow altogether, I’ve pulled hundreds of pounds of dirt, logs, lumber, gravel, etc. in it with no issues. My grandpa liked it so much we bought him one for Christmas, and he loves it too. We’ve had ours for like 4 years now, and aside from a flat tire or two, no problems yet. You could haul all the gear you want in it, and hardly break a sweat. Good idea with the flyer though, maybe I’ll bring the garden cart next time I go camping, for gathering wood and whatnot. It’d be nice for hunting too, I imagine, if you had to haul out a deer or a hog.

I'll stick with my Old Hickory hunting knife(1095 HC Steel) with good quality sheath (23.95). Comes very sharp and easy to keep sharp.

Coffee is a must and I have carried a lot of varieties into a lot of different places.

I think bounty paper towels are underrated backpacking gear. They are light weight and unlike standard paper towel can be rinsed and wrung out a few times before they start to come apart. I've even used them at the cottage to wash dishes in the sink full of water without them coming apart. Once you clean with them or whatever they can be fire tinder or reused as they dry out fast.

Blue shop towels better. Find them at automotive and hardware stores. Even walmart sells them.

@@longinus58 Which brand of blue shop towels do you use? Project Farm KZread channel tested many brands of blue shop towels and white paper towels and some of the Blue are not very good. Some are excellent though. He also shows Bounty can hold almost double the water of some cheaper brands and more than any of the blue shop towels he tested. Making Bounty an excellent disposable dish or wipe cloth. One other thing to note is some blue shop towels can be blended with synthetic material you might not want in your ears, eyes, mouth or other body parts if using a a camping wash cloth or water filter.

I'm happy with my Morakniv Companion knife as my smaller knife. The knife is great and I love the plastic sheath it came with. The belt clip is great and I can hang it on a screw/nail in the wall because of the hole on the back of the clip made for that purpose. And the knife even clicks into the sheath good enough to not easily fly out of the sheath, but is still easy enough to pull out. It's the only smaller knife I use since I got it. Been 2 or 3 years now.

I have a BPS knife too. I like it even better than my Mora Garburg. My favorite knife. Solid, and excellent value.

I have the Shangri-La “Mongo” bag and I have a Maxpediton Jumbo. The Shangri-La saved me over 100 bucks and honestly is at least 95% as high quality as the Max model. My jumbo is now my backup. Cannot recommended the Shangri-la bag more.

I took one of the Fire Dragon cookers and modified it to burn alcohol ( Denatured ). I used some J.B. Weld to seal the corners of the center tray. Making it leak proof. Then cut some 1/4 inch Carbon Felt in strips the same length as the center tray. They are also the same height as the sides of the center tray or slightly higher. About 7 strips will fill it. This creates basically 7 wicks for the alcohol to wick from creating a decent flame to cook by.

There was a DZO brand stainless steel cup and lid combo (the usual Chinesium stuff but very good quality), and it came in two sizes. The larger one holds 27 ounces and would nest with a Stanley Adventure Cook Set, even the lids would sit on top of each other and lock down with the Stanley's top folding handle. It also sleeved over a Grayl Geopress with a Campcraft Outdoors millbank bag over it. And that was all for about $17. I should have bought half a dozen when they were available and just stuck them on the shelf.

Nice pick of bag, picked one up for my wife 4 years ago for her camera bag and holds quite a lot inside of it, which is all in all a very good bag. I have Never regretted buying it for her and it has gone everywhere from family funerals to family trips for 4 years straight plus is still running strong.

I have a camp pot which has a top that is also a pan. Both pieces have fold in handle with that silicone type coating on the handles, which I love. I do also have a few metal camp cups with the foldout handles. I only use one, but the others are backups if one becomes unusable or lost.

I’ve got the BCB stove, loving your little bag for it. Need something like that for mine 👌

I pack the stainless type folding windscreens. They work great and weigh little. Even thick aluminum can be packed and used for this or other needs. 👍

My niece had a job at 511 and brought home some nice bags they were throwing out. She gave me a nice FDE color shoulder bag that I have used for hikes but I usually use it for trips on the Harley. Only thing I don't like about it is that the CCW pocket is zippered but I like that the zipper is on top and bottom.

Not trying to cause a fight here, just genuinely curious. Why would someone prefer this type of bag over a backpack? I know that myself personally, with my spinal issues, that weight off to one side for an extended period of time will end up causing me a great deal of nerve pain. Do you normal folk get any discomfort using a lopsided setup like this?

Depends completely on your situation. Something like this can be all you can carry due to space for storage. Low profile. Doing a bit of grey man movement. People can make this look like a messenger bag for day to day. Nobody the wiser…

I have this bag. It was a mistake buying it for the reason you mention. It’s difficult to carry over any distance. I’m using it as an ifak now. Keeping it in the car my wife drives. She’s an RN and we can Keep a lot of first aid equipment in it.

I bought off Amazon a $10 emergency sleeping bag camo color and it fits in the palm of your hand. At Dollar general I found a pool mattress for $5 vs the $50 you would spend on a regular air mattress.

Everything looks good coming out of the wrapper its how well and long it holds up that is the main concern. you don't want something to fall apart on you a week or so into the journey. I've had things last me 6 months and I've had things last me not even 6 days. there's a big difference.

Looks like a great bag for the money. let us know how it holds up over time.

I had a nearly identical clone of this bag from Leapers/UTG that served me faithfully as an everyday work bag for YEARS. Literally used it until the day the buckle snapped. Even had it stolen once and imediately replaced it. This bag by Shangri-La looks even BETTER than that UTG bag did! Good find!

Very nice! I have a sling bag that is almost identical to yours. Yous is a lot bigger though. Mine is made by Fox Outdoor. The mesh bottle pocket on it sucks, but I'm going to fix that. You wouldn't think to look at it, but it will hold a milk jug in the main pocket with some room left over.

That looks like a neat little pack. I like the storm collar, which could also expand somewhat to allow more gear. I believe that the GZ Xinxing tactical sling military backpack EDC range bag at $19.99 from Amazon is actually better. I have the same multitool at it is awesome. I use my GZ sling bag as a portable communications bag; I carry a 25W portable manpack ham radio plus accessories(slim jim antenna, cables, tool kit) and a Baofeng BF-F8HP ham radio with extra batteries.

Really wish you had added links to all the gear,it would have made it much easier for us to find the gear.

I went to your Amazon store and found an item I bought in February. It’s gone up about $70 since I got it. I’m glad I grabbed it when I did.

I've used that same shangri-la bag for a few years now and its held up great, I even used it as a work bag in a factory for over a year and nothing wrong with it. Some of those cheap Amazon tarps are alright you just really have to look them over to make sure they're reinforced correctly. More videos like these would be appreciated!!!

What is the price range of the bag?

Nice video! I've had the Shangri la bag for the last five years and it just gets more comfortable to use, especially the zippers very smooth and strong. One Amazon product I'd like to Add is the Wise Owl hammock and tarp. The quality and strength of these are hard to beat and the prices are a fraction of, say, DD tarps and hammocks.

@@nicholasbenedetto6319 Until you look into the fine details such as the most important ones when designing any packs or bags for that matter quality of the stitching, zippers, buckles, and materials used cause sorry a generic zipper will not outlast a ykk zipper i'd be hard pressed to see a cheap zipper last as long as the ykks i've had on some jackets that lasted 8 years, Generic buckles break quick cause theres more to buckles then "its just plastic", and stitching which alot of these cheap bags have is usually not great hell some don't double stitch which is critical for making it hold together and withstand weight. If your going to cheap out on a pack or bag hunt around for a mil surp then.

@@nicholasbenedetto6319 True the name is a contributing factor that honestly makes me question why it needs to be price jacked the way it is but honestly as you said theres good inexpensive gear out there on a budget. A good example is if you find the right old mil surp bags and such they're affordable and durable or a good example of a cheap line of packs even comes from walmart their "outdoor products" line are made well for the asking price they are. I guess my biggest gripe is you have to sift through a ton of cheap and shitty companies before you find consistent ones for budget gear.

I've had multitools over the decades and barely ever used them. Never did things that I really needed that. So eventually I just gave up on even having them.

There’s some items I’d take bush that are cheap but the majority of my gear needs to be reliable. That multi tool would be lucky to last a few trips. Bags tend to wear quickly too, especially when filled. Buy once, cry once. I learnt the hard way…

I’m in Australia and have bought Leatherman over local products. Their quality can’t be beat. I’ve spent stupid amounts of money on cheap tools, only to have to buy them again. I only recently started buying quality gear. It does make a huge difference. Yeah, you can get by with cheap gear but quality tools make the job enjoyable.

leatherman is worth every single dollar/euro/rubble/etc . probably most crucial item (next to knife and container to carry and cook in) for any real survivalist. although not "dirt cheap", helikon tex has great range of backpacks (have few of em, love them all :D ), great selection of clothes, molle pouches...direct action is great in its price range too. not cheap though. but as you guys said; buy once, cry once ;)

It feels very solid to me. Just too heavy and big. I'll keep it at my desk at work. I was hoping it would match the Leatherman because the price is so good I could by several for family member's bug out bags. Not to be.

I just got a nice leather EDC belt holster for a multi tool. ( Gerber multiplier ) pen and flash light ( coast g22) In my opinion of about 2 weeks, I find it useful. I do find it convenient to have such things at my disposal and not cluttering my pockets. The holster is very good leather and crafted. About 35$ if you don't have prime.

There are certainly no shortage of multitools. I found one in Walmart for 34 bucks that is 98% a name brand. Works perfectly.

That does indeed look like a really nice bag. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way in school that I need to be able to spread weight over both shoulders and back and hips if possible. My shoulders just aren't strong enough otherwise over a long period of time. Carrying a shoulder bag for school taught me that. For someone stronger I'm sure it's fine, but I know my bones and ligaments!

Difference between experience/no experience. Slings are a no go for any real distance or time. Id only say for in and out of vehicles at most.

@@longinus58 Yeah, we took some classes in highschool at a different school nearby, and the walk over there really taught me that it was impractical. I would find that halfway there I was leaning over to one side drastically to try and balance the weight of the bag. It's true that I was definitely carrying more than 20 pounds in my school bag, but still. I'm really trying to take my emergency bag seriously. I'm just trying to do the best I can with the resources and knowledge I have. I'm a complete beginner, but these days I acknowledge anything can happen with little warning. I'd like the peace of mind of at least knowing I did everything I could.

I'll vouch for the BPS knives. I have the HK1S and I haven't had to sharpen it since I got it over a year ago. Those are top shelf blades for a really good price.

Would have liked the bag for warmer weather when I did much more cycling. Have the Firedragon stove but can't remember where I bought it. The mushroom guide is great but you can get Collins Gem reference books on amazon in this country that fit in your pocket and for their size they're fairly extensive. Maybe they sell them in the States too??

A lot of stuff these days has shortened use by dates to make you buy more, over here in Europe the use by date is set by the rugulators not on when it actually goes out of date.

I, like many others, can definitely agree with the BPS knives. I do not have the Full Tang model, but have the rat tail Tang model which is exceptionally like a Mora, and I bought mine with the leather sheath that came with it when they first came out for like $15. Ultra super lightweight, high carbon steel, and what an excellent blade indeed for light work. Very good knives, and yes very much like a Mora. Great knife but with a leather sheath 😀

I i have found a few other bargains as well. Id have to look through my purchases though to tell you the brands but they were all budget items. I was going to do gear testing on my channel, lost my phone with the videos on it so i lost all the documentation.

I have two bps knives. Recently started trying the old flint and steel fire method of fire using them. I get some sparks, but not as many as a higher carbon blade. Still, for the price, they are unbeatable.

I ordered the multi-tool pushed in this video. It has a volume 1-1/2 times as much as my Leatherman and weighs three times as much. I wouldn't want to carry it on hike, but i can use it in other situations.

This was a very good review by an experienced outdoorsman and experience is always the best teacher. I like the fact that he was price conscience. And he was very detailed and went through his items pretty well. All in all an excellent review. My only suggestion is that he should summarize and give links to each and every one of the products he personally recommends. It was clear from the review that on some items he spent more time reviewing than other items and those are the ones that I am particularly interested in purchasing. But there are no links! I got a ka bar backpack kaster basically a great hobo reel an a tactical fanny pack that the strap goes over my shoulder rather then waist I'm a fatty loan use that for my fishing kit the shangri la I got today I'm losing it as we speak I think I'm gonna use as a edc/just in case kit bag a light weed right tarp a gearwrench mini socket set some device chargers an battery bank a poncho an cordage small fire kit I tend to over pack specially with the bigger the bag so I'm just gonna go minimal an I know I will just find an get more an it will be full soon enough I work as a car processor at a salvage yard the things that are left in cars is crazy its were I found my gerber strongarm an I complete jump into gear

i have a different brand bag from amazon. (red river )like yours. i am disabled from bad health. i use this bag as an EDC bag. have a first aide kit. and things that i may need during a short day trip. also keep a chiefs special 38 in the zippered pocket on the back.

I've got that same water bottle, and the only thing I dont like about it, is how difficult it is to take the actual lid off

Hyke bike sleeping bag. Wise owl dry/ compression bags. Hike max Light weight tent stakes. Bayite ferro rods

Most things I got from Amazon over the past 3 or 4 years have been good. I have had a few items that were trash and my money was wasted. It's not as bad if it was something that didn't cost much, but still bothers me, as I am on low income. But I have gotten some real good items. For example I got 2 Silky folding saws (F180 Pro & BigBoy Pro). So worth the money! My Schrade SCHF45 Bowie knife is an awesome option for chopping, instead of using an axe or hatchet.

The most Amazing Bushcraft Hatchet is a Freelander Axe ! it rivals a the "Big name" that cost 3X as much.

Disappointed to discover the Maxpedition Janus extension pocket isn't compatible with the buckle on the Shangri-La bag. The maxpedition buckles are deeper (taller?) than the ones on the bag. I'm going to try and find some replacement buckles to make it work. Still a great bag for the price.
