I have a Battle II / 8’ combo. The Clash models have more bearings, weigh less and are sealed better. They just updated those, so you can get good deals on the older generations (black and gold). Spinfishers are sealed better. I prefer the V series. Penn Slammers are their best sealed spinning reels for surf fishing. Heavy and solid. I have them from 5500 to 10500. Work great on boats too. Spinfisher V 8500 LL with Live Liner feature is a great all-rounder for surf and boat duty. The newer live liners operate differently and feel cheap. All that said, a big fish pulled my Battle II and rod out of the rod holder and it disappeared in some nasty surf for 15 minutes until I snagged it with a treble hook. Dunked it in hotel sink until sand stopped pouring out. Didn’t bother to take it apart and rebuild or grease it, as it’s a cheap reel. (I’ve rebuilt several Clash and Spinfishers). Here’s the kicker: stupid thing still works fine. Other Penn reels have seized up after a few momentary dunks in the surf. That Battle II was buried in crashing surf and sand for 15 minutes. Go figure.

I just bought a Penn Battle III 6000, and paired with it with a 9' Ugly Stik Bigwater.... can't wait to use it!

I normally golf, but because the courses closed down for a while, my wife felt sorry for me and told me to start fishing... she even likes going with me... we normally go in the afternoon and stay until nightfall... love the peace and quiet... while I wait for a strike, I walk around with a 'grabber' and pick up all of the rubbish in the area... I appreciate you doing the same...

I got the Penn Battle 2 5000 and 10' battle 2 rod MH and love it. AND Penn Fierce III with 10' prevail II heavy. Best rods & reels ever owned.

I really appreciate you showing yourself picking up trash off the beach. I keep a few extra trash bags in my Jeep, and do the very same thing when out. It's unbelievable that people don't respect, or take responsibility for their own dang trash!! Great example, ya bum! 😂

I use the Penn Slammer 3. Also 2 different sizes Shimano Stradic. All 3 handle 90% of my needs. With a 7' St. Croix Avid. 11' Surf Ninja Tackle Dagger 11' Surf, 10' Spinning Ninja Tackle Bamma Beach Bum - Bummy Stick. and a good old 7'6" Ugly stick.

@@texasbeachbum 1st Time i had heard f them till I moved to the US. Saw a YT vid about them and lad couldnt been happier with it. Even tho he wasnt sponsored by them lol. 1st colored rod I'd bought too. I also use my 12' carp rods on the surf. 3lb test curve they handle big fish.

Yes sir it is. I throw top waters with it, doa shrimp and numerous other lures using the penn battle 3 combo. I use 15 to 20 pound test braid

I much prefer spinning reel, but out of curiosity, why do you prefer baitcasters?

I don't use bait casters anymore only spinning reels in the gulf. I use bait casters in lakes

Why did you spool it with 20 pound braid that reel holds 335 yards of 50 pound braid
