I got my hands on a Peavey Vypyr X1 and the high gain stuff is pure PEAVEY. It is Brutal and chugs hard straight out of the box. It is FAR from perfect but for $200 / €250 there are some really fun Metal tones to be made plus it works on bass and acoustic guitar too!

Hope they make this amp with more power and better connectivity and eliminate the FX and modeling and put that on a different amp or vice versa. They need to make a true working class base design basic amp design with 2x10, 2x12 and 2x15 stereo chorus with this solid state preamp and 200 watts at least in class D power. And build other models that branch from it with all of the modeling or enhancements that way something good comes and keep it and it shall stick to an enhancement version. This is the way the truth and the life. Don't go the way of crate please. (to peavey) it only cost very little to greatly increase solid state class D power.

Thanks for showing the bass but you had it set on "electric 1" instead of "bass". Thats why it sounded identical on Trace and Peavey modes. Also, you dont get the effects dial with the 16 effects in the X1. The effects dial, larger 12 inch speaker and double the power is easily worth the extra $100.

I have the first version vypyr VIP 1, and it's an awesome practice amp that never leaves the bedroom. It's great for inspiring new riffs that I might not have come up with on my bigger Amps. The good sound quality at very low levels is the main thing that I appreciate. I would never recommend anyone to even attempt to use these tiny amps for anything outside of low level practice to keep the chops up. For jamming or gigging, a bigger amp is necessary and produces better tones and feeling. But these little amps are absolutely Ace for discovering new tones that are fun to noodle on.

Many videos show the quality of the construction is in question, not to mention the price itself. While already have few looper pedals, I am not too certain if should get this Sanpera still to enjoy the amp to its full extent. Thanks :)

The amp, the foot pedal and software are so out there not worth the trouble. Try and get a tech to call you from peavy not a chance. That is why this amp is going back and out of my house. I like this amp after fiddling with it a few days now. I almost want to say that it gives a MB a run for their money in the Gain dept. The Peavey amps ARE Peavey Amps, in fact I hardly ever need to pass the Orange setting for crunch, especially on my EVH Frankie Guitar. However, I wish the X1 would have also had Bluetooth capacity because I would have liked to have used their Ipad/Android editor. Perhaps this is why the cost is lower? But not bad for a $200 amp if you just want the Peavey branded amps with the bonus being a Bass/Acoustic amp as well.

Back in the 80s/90s you could ALWAYS count on seeing a lot of Peavey PA gear at any local show of any genre. Because the stuff was affordable (downright cheap, used), it was always plenty loud, and it always just plain worked. But bringing a Peavey guitar amp to practice or a gig just might get you laughed out of the room.... and honestly, there was a good reason for that. It's been fun watching them become a real respected guitar amp company as well.

On paper this could be the one for me. High gain stuff, bass and more. But you are saying there are not any pop settings on the amp? Like playing the Cure or Wet Leg songs at home. I would like an amp good modelling amp without effects. I have looked a lot at Katana because I like Boss' effect pedals in general, but I am not sure about the amps part of the Katana and I guess it doesn't do bass at all. One option could be to by a bass amp too, I have noticed there are some small home/practise bass amps that I guess would work too. But that is more money of course. I own a Headrush pedalboard that I can't really handle. I did make it to the end! chugalisious(sic?)

Very good amp to practice or rehearsal, enough power for performance, if you take the time to learn the switches, this review did not. I may change the speaker or use external cabinet with 10 or 12 inch. USB interface does not output but only input and one of my pc did not recognize driver. Im still trying to solve this usb issue, maybe windows issue. Another minor issue is no stereo input or output from aux but there is a little stereo feeling about reverb, chorus and delay. I will fit to this issues, not a big problem, since amp is quite good for what a guitar amp is needed most.

The advantage to the X3 is you can access all the presets and the preset slots from the amp without the pedal. Even the lower end Fender modeler LT 25 has a display and it's much better. I have the previous Vypyr model (VIP 2) and it sounds amazing! It's so much fun dialing in tones. I actually want to get an even older model as I don't need the acoustic or bass channels and that gives you more amp choices. Even with the flaws, I would still go with the Peavey when it's time to upgrade.

It sounds so great because the Pre amp is ANALOG solid state. The FX are digital modeled doodoo. This amp minus the fx is SUPERIOR in every way to even a tube amp and any older peavey solid state. Now we have even order harmonix in analog solid state. So it is full of life now. The boss katana suffers from too little even order harmonics and more odd order harmonics, like their pedals. Although the SD1 and jazz are great still among others in front of any amplifier. There is no need to cling to older style diodes, use the new tech advanced parts and the old wiring ways and you are golden until the next round of tech parts.

You could argue the champion sounds a little better being a pure clean amp, but the vypyr is just so much more fun and sounds great too. Bluetooth, can hook to computer and record, amp sims, lots of effects, legendary metal amp sims.

There's a bit of a weird high-mid spike in my Katana 50, too. It's one of the reasons I'm trying to learn how to mod it to run through a different speaker cab. Odd stuff happens in little combo-amp speaker cabinets sometimes, and I think that might be part of the issue. Plus I just plain like a big gnarly 4x12.

Next time someone asks, how was my meal, I'll answer Chuggalicious :-) Anyway, my only concern about this amp is that it has way too many LEDs. This is why I do not like my Fender Mustang too: amber - red - green - yellow etc. Why? Or is it just me who keeps on forgetting which color indicates what?
