It’s time, 2023 is drawing to a close, and I'm simply desperate to do a roundup of my reading year, because it has been utterly excellent. Listen to this, 5 5-star reads, and no less than 12 4.5-star reads. And hey, an impressive 16 4-star reads, which means so many 4 to 5 stars that I will have to skip the 4 stars and stay strictly to 4.5 and above. It’s a mix of everything this year, so no matter what your personal partiality is, creepy or romantic or classics, or experimental, you will find something here that will tickle your fancy I'm sure.
I talk about:
- the best books of 2023
- the best things i’ve read in 2023
- my christmas giveaway
- new books
- classic books
- nobel prize winners

I think I've read OKAY DAYS 4 times this year and also, I'm one of the few that have read your next novel 🤐

Look at David trying (succeeding) to make us jealous. 😊❤
I would love the list in the description so I can screenshot and search for all the books 📖 ❤
I would love Swedish books recommendations 🥰🌷
Your book reviews!!! Love them so much. I have at least 3 more from this video added to my list. And I recently purchased The Friend and will read that next. Thank you so much; I can't tell you how much I enjoy your book reviews.
I really needed some new inspiration! I have read 94 books so far this year ( I have a goal on 100) and most of it has been facts actually. A lot of history, I really love our Swedish history there is so much to learn.
Can't wait to add some of these to my 2024 list!
Love it! I’ve been reading so many of these hugely popular on KZread and TikTok books this year, and some of them have been great, but it’s refreshing to hear about some less well known books (at least to me). So definitely picking some of these up for the holidays 🥳 Also, your book was great. The characters felt real with all their flaws and quirks. And your writing style is lovely ❤
Jenny, I've been watching your videos since the very beginning, finding many similarities in our tastes and opinions... and I've just finished reading your book :) I loved it so so much, I think it's among my top 5 of all times! I'm so proud of you for finding the dedication and courage to publish. I hope you will reach a large audience with your books. Looking forward to your next creations, and I wish you a lot of inspiration and all the best in life!
To the lighthouse was one of my favorites this years too! I love Virginia so much, and of course I love anyone who loves her too. I personally find that Yoshimoto never disappoints, I also adore Annie Ernaux and I only discovered her books this year and it was such a good discovery.
LOVED Okay Days, one of my favourite reads of 2023 for sure 😁
I would love love to see your reading routine!! Really enjoying all of your book videos lately. Happy holidays Jenny
I haven't read any of these books, excerpt for Okay Days, which was lovely! 😊 I did write down all your recommendations.
Your videos are so special and made with love and lots lots of thought. I love it.
I read your book when it came out, loved it so much! Just stumbled across your channel, had no idea that you were on KZread but what a lovely surprise :)
Reading routine sounds interesting! I would love to see it :)
Okay Days was my absolute favorite read this year!!
I really enjoyed OKAY DAYS ! Will defo being buying your next novel.
Thanks Jenny Mustard!
I would love a video about your reading routine! :)
I just ordered a couple of these from the local library, including Okay Days!
What a cool list! I haven't heard of most of these books and I'm excited to check them out :)
Jenny! I met you at your Waterstones book signing and talk (and yes, Okay Days was an amazing read for a remote beach house in Northern Ireland 💛🤍) and two of my all time favourite books are Orlando (Virginia Woolf) and The Makioka Sisters (Junichiro Tanizaki), which are both beautiful reads for your Christmas break!
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Glad that YT recommended you ❤
I’ve read over a hundred books this year and the best of them all was “The secret history” by Donna Tartt. An absolute masterpiece and a golden standard for the dark academia genre.

@elenakh5561....The Secret History is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, Ms. Tartt's next two books were not comparable to her first.
Hi Jenny! Just as an idea, I would love to see a video of book's recommendations acording to different English levels. As sometimes it is hard to pick up a book when you're not an English native speaker without knowing if it's going to be too challenging for you. Thank you :)
Two of my favourite books of all time are The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole and The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole by the incredible Sue Townsend. I’ve read them a million times. Dracula is a compelling classic. Quite scary for such an old book.
Reading routine ❤
Jenny, thank you for this reading list to pull from in the coming year. Virginia Woolf is one of my two favorite authors. My introduction to her was a short story - The Mark on the Wall - find it, read it!
I have read 110 books (so far) this year and haven't read any of these. AHH! Thanks for the recommendations!
❤❤❤ A series about POSITIVE 📚 would be great! Intelligent, witty, vibrant, mood-lifting stuff (not dumb cheesy cheap trash of course). Does this exist? For times when we are not in shape to read anything that makes us sad or melancholic (when you even can’t deal with catharsis). Or should I say: as-good-as-it-gets-books without too much melancholy, tragedy and health/societal issues? Just books that make you feel better.
omg I came across ur novel 'okay days' in my local bookstore and just bought it, and I realised while watching ur video that u're the author 🥺!
Never heard of any of them but saved 7 to look for them, including yours.
Thoroughy enjoyed Okay Days, a captivating look into modern relationships. Just finished the very fine The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride which I highly reccomend. I couldn't put it down and read it in one day. Love the literary turn you are taking. Another way to enjoy your channel.
I’ve never entered a giveaway so fast in my life! Also inspired to give to the lighthouse a second shot!
I have not read any Strindberg before, but are interested. Do you have any recommendation for the first one?
When will Okay Days be available in German?
Jenny, in the New Year pleeeeaase read "Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead" by Olga Tokarczuk. It's an amazing one, about proctecting the animals and environment whilest also bringing some mystery and crime. I don't get along well with contemporary writers but this one....
Can I also please ask you where your gorgeous “squiggly” mirror is from? I believe it is the one from Ferm Living? Thank you 🤍
Congratulations on your novel! Literary love story set in London with a Christmas chapter in Stockholm - I'm in 😊

It was a vintage find in Stockholm :)
Jenny, do you have any advice for reading Virginia Woolf’s stream of consciousness style? I have tried several times and want so much to be able to immerse in it.
You look amazing, what a beautiful white blouse on you and a make up and jewelery...love your presentation always and your taste. Thank you Jenny
Sweet ❤
Im happy to see some older books getting recommended! I usually love contemporary books but these last 2-3 years I’ve more than often been very disappointed by new releases. I feel like the story lines are weak and that the language and research is sloppy, as well as authors leaning to much on popular tropes… And in addition to this the online community à la booktok kind of drowned my own enjoyment of reading for a while. There is this looming feeling you are a bad reader if you “only” read one book per month. Sooo… not a very good reading year for me. I very much enjoyed your book tho, and really recommend Emma Cline’s other works too!
so good to have other recommendations than bookstagram !
Swedish books 😘!
I heard christmas story in stockhol im buying it SOLD
You just popped into my recommended because I had been searching reading content. I guess I eventually quit watching you after you stopped doing recipes. I loved your recipes, so much. I think I pretty much made all of them. But I just noticed your hair has gotten so long and you look like you’re doing really well. ❤
A list pls
Anyone got a list of the books she recommends?
I wanna be friends with this Peter:)
