Route Werks makes a bar bag that camps to the bar without touching the frame. It also has mounts for computers and lights. It’s easy to access on the move.
I do 5-6 hour rides in the mountains where I have to plan my water stops carefully. I use a top-tube bag, bibs with pockets, a saddle bag, and a TT-like water bottle cage on the back of the saddle. I have no scratches from the top tube bag. It has rubber-lined straps and I’ve put helicopter tape on the frame.

Was going to recommend clear helicopter tape.

Was going to recommend using clear helicopter tape. It will protect your paint and is designed to be removed.

+1 for helicopter tape :)
You guys really had it in the bag with these great suggestions.
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
Grip tape works great under attachments, protects the frame and keeps bags from shifting around.
I've used the routewerks handlebar bag and, while it is definitely heavy and not aero, it gives a bunch of storage, only attaches to your handlebars so no frame scratches, and is easy to access while riding.
I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...
I carry a hiking bag pack with the hydration, doesn't look cool but it works as the bottle cage can be used for other purposes
I've got multiple cheap dry bags that range in size. The clip that fastens the seal can easily fit around the handle bars at one end, the other end I have a loop of velcro that goes around the bars. Multiple sizes cover most things, and they are waterproof to boot.
I like using a small Apidura top tube bag as well as a Relevate Shrew seat bag (which holds a fair amount of extras that I don't need quick access to). I am not a racer, but do like to be efficient on longer rides. Handle bar bags create the most wind drag, and larger bike-packing type seat bags have actually been found to reduce drag, so that's how I justify the bulkier set up. Also, there is a company called Ridewrap that sells frame protection kits, and I bought the basic one to protect the areas where my bags rub.
I'm a big fan of bolt-on top tube bags, as they prevent the leg rubbing issue with velcro ones. Unfortunately very few road bikes have the bolts for it on the top tube. It's definitely a much more common feature on gravel bikes.
I have a Route Werks handlebar bag which is excellent for everything I need on my adventures on the bike paths/rail to trails that cover my state. It opens backwards so it can be accessed while riding like a proper randonneur bag. Silca also just released a 2-5 liter saddle bag which could be very useful and aero. Lastly if it touches your frame use a layer of helicopter tape from 3M.
I really love having two stem bags because of the access. I got cheap decathlon ones and those are okay, no scratches after 3 years. I also can't ride with a frame bag, so this hits the spot for me on long rides. I usually put stuff inside them first rather than in my jersey pockets.
Also from Scotland, Camelchops make incredibly good bike bags. I got a frame bag from them and they made it to measure based on the length of my bike's top tube.
Altura Vortex 2 13ltr Seatpack for me. I do quite a few Centuries and never have an issue with stopping for my lunch. I can also carry extra clothing I may require. And they are 'AERO' - or maybe not
Canyon (I think you refer to the Grail) does not come with the frame bag: it's an extra. Canyon makes fitted frame bags for the Grizl and Endurace too.
Clear frame protection tape or get a kit from ridewrap, invis etc for the bike
I use a medium size top tube bag, on a 100 mi ride last fall.
I use 1/2 frame bags on my XC, road & gravel and don't lose any sleep whatsoever about 'marks' etc, just use helicopter tape.
David has a lot on his plate with his "one century a month". I'd suggest to prepare the frame with protection tape. This will definitely help carrying the bags without worrying about the scratch finish. If you go the extra step and get durable tape, you might get away with prepping the frame maybe once a year - depending on the wear of the stickers. If you go with clear tape, which would be an quick fix, you might have to renew the tape every month.
Cotton duck 🦆 saddle bag, that'll weigh him down but great storage solution to boot :)
I have a small bike frame which means I cannot fit a frame bag when I have bottles or a top tube bag as when I stop to stand, it leaves no room for my "bits" 👀 as I have a shorter top tube. A hip bag or a thin hydration backpack like from Camelbak. I know roadies don't like to have bags on their person as it is unsightly. I use a Chrome Industries Kadet sling bag for longer solo rides or if it needs to carry extra bits or layers.
Use painters tape if you cannot use electrical or helicopter tape for frame protection. And for more food what about food/feed/bottle bags or no bike bag but a musette?
Use automotive clear paint protection film (from 3M etc.) and cut it to fit the top tube, chain stays, down tube etc. It lasts for years on a vehicle and will do the same on your bikes, and if worn or damaged can be replaced easily. I've been doing just that for years and no-one can even tell it's there.
Carradice for audaxers !
jack the bike rack plus a large handlebar bag (a la zeigeist bag), if you don't use a carbon integrated handlebar.
Shirts with pockets?
Carradice super c audax bag
Should I care about the paint on an old cheap alu bike?
Cut up an old inner tube and place it on the contact points .
Topeak dynapack, 4 L capacity , Rixen Kaul Contour 4 L capacity, Rixen & Kaul Contour Magnum Saddlebag 6L capacity. I have an Altura version that's pretty old. they are light, stable, they don't move, they are away from your legs, they're even pretty aero, they unclick from your bike with a button press. It's not a bikepacking bag, it's better.
Use electrical tape for frame protection - cheap, easy to undo
As a newbie road rider (but long term off-road motorcyclist)… I just don’t understand the concern of scratches… just ride it, get it worn…. Badges of use and honour

Rock bros great handlebar bag won't touch paint
