In 1975 my brother was babysitting me on a Friday night. He went outside at around 11pm to connect our bass boat to the truck for a fishing trip the next morning. He came running back inside in a panic, told me to hide, grabbed a shotgun, and ran back outside. After a little while he came back inside and got me. We went outside and about 300 yards away there was a glowing blue metallic ball above some trees. It would zip back and forth then go down and out of sight in a T pattern. It appeared to be about 15 feet in diameter more or less. He called a friend of his nearby and told him to get a gun and camera ready and we were coming to get him. As soon as we pulled out on the road this thing instantly zipped over and was right above the truck about 20 feet above us. The engine died so we couldn`t drive away. He shoved me down into the floor of the truck and got out and aimed the gun at it. It instantly zipped straight up into the sky and vanished. Nobody answered the door at his friend`s house so we left. We ran into another guy he knew after going down the road closer to where we`d seen it hovering over the trees. The time should have been no later than 15 minutes after midnight but the guy told us it was after 3am. In 1999 I was fishing at night around 11pm on the Louisiana side of the Sabine river. I was just checking a catfishing spot in a bay beside the river with rods because the water was rising and the catfish usually start biting in that area when the river rises. I had planned to get back to the boat dock in our yard before midnight because a TV show I planned to watch was coming on. If the catfish were biting I planned to put out trotlines and hoop nets the next day to catch fish to sell. Right after I tied the boat up and threw out my rods two huge rectangle shaped things way bigger than mobile homes appeared in a cow pasture down the river. They were flying (more like floating) along some power lines,one on either side, and slowly coming towards me. Each of them had four squares of soft yellowish/white light on the front that covered the entire front except for black borders around them. I turned off my light and reeled in my rods, cranked the motor, and started puttering as fast as I could safely go in the dark towards a canal leading back to our boat dock. I had to go towards these things which were slowly coming towards me so I was about to panic. One started going up and the other down as the four square panels of light began to turn into squares inside squares until they became very bright and pretty brilliant sparkling dots of multicolored lights. Then they blinked off and vanished. They never made any sounds. I remember on the way out there while in the canal seeing a very quick flash of colors to my right through the fog in the trees but it was dim and I assumed it came from a spotlight beam on the other side of the island. When I reached the boat dock only minutes later my girlfriend was standing there looking very upset. She told me it was after 5am. It should have been just after 11pm. I never went fishing out there again and I normally fished several times a week. This encounter left me with a feeling of dread I can`t explain because what I saw was beautiful. I`m actually afraid to go camping alone and have never gone fishing alone at night since. The frustration of wondering but not knowing what happened to me is intense and has only increased over time. We see countless crazy stories like this on the internet and if only 10% of them are true then our current "understanding" of science and physics is very wrong. I suspect that government officials do understand many science and physics "mysteries" far more than they admit and have hidden many wonderful discoveries that could explain a lot of these bizarre experiences people keep reporting because terrorists could use this knowledge to do great harm. I`ve seen a lot more that this and there are mutiple types. I`ve seen extremely bright golden orbs go all the way across the daytime sky much faster than the Space Shuttles I`ve seen pass over to land in Florida. I`ve seen the very large triangles slowly pass over that had a fog or plasma glow around them. Most of the ones I`ve seen were white orbs, usually in groups. I`m disgusted by how most scientists respond to my questions about these things. Thank God this man isn`t like that!

if there was better technology that the government has that could feed the hungry or house the homeless, technology that could fix the worlds problems? there would be no wars and therefor no need to hold it back in fear of the enemy getting it.

Awesome vid with alot of excellent info. I find Beam Overload as my default fallback for almost everything and for all my alts. I love Cannons and torps but there is something about beam weapons. Thanks for the vid!

To add to the power levels tip you had at the beginning, it's better if you manually slide the weapons power setting If you have over +25 to weapons power (or all power) settings since it maxes out at 125. I typically run my weapons around 80-90% power setting since I already have max dmg from it allowing me to have either better engines or aux (or shields if you're into that).

Much bigger fan of Mixed Armaments Synergy over Recursive Shearing. Recursive Shearing must be applied to a single enemy ship, and that's only useful if you are doing Elite content, since everything in Adv. dies too quick for it to be useful. Mixed Armaments Synergy affects your ship, so it's limit is only to how many ships you can kill in 10 seconds doing 50% more damage during that time.

I do love beam overload, and I usually pair it with Distributed Targeting 2. However, requring a lobi ship for the extender, let me just say please Cryptic, add the Xindi-Primate Ateleth to a Mudd's bundle for an account-wide unlock!

Zhere is a store ship that hands out a trait to reset BO cooldown on heal so you kinda achieve the same but with extra steps.

Great video, I'm especially interested in the chart showing ERL being slightly higher in potential damage than BO, would you consider doing a video on how to build an ERL build? I have the extension trait for it, but I can't seem to make it perform that well, would be interesting to see what you do with it.

they basically gave us the boost for CSV & FAW, so why not BO? I'd much rather have that trait over the T6x2 we are getting. But hey, I'm just a lowly Captain

A nice "canon" feel to Beam Overload is that Phasers have that TNG feel to them. Like the Enterprise-D firing its Phasers have that windup with sound effect before it makes someone regret their life decisions on the receiving end.

The most important thing I took out of this video is that Exceed Rated Limits can hold its own against Beam Overload. I hate having to get Lobi ship to use something so basic like Overload.

Yeah, the folks over at STO Better have done a fair bit with ERL. Here's one of their builds/guides sites.google.com/view/stobetter/intro-builds/eph289/gagarin It can do quite well, but do factor in that it does damage you.

I agree with this. The Temporal D7 is among my top BO hitters although I now wanna try the Vad Juggy as I have the Miradorn as well. Funny you mention the Hirogen Heavy Hunter as I did a build vid on one not long ago and it performed very well with BO. Great vid Spencer!

As an Inquiry BC owner with BO build I completely agree with you on everything and thank you for your video, it helped a lot. I just think that Inquiry deserves to be in that top 5 list of BO ships :)

And if you're particularly a fan of highly agile ships that don't fly like a brick, I can recommend from personal experience the 5/3 Elachi Qulash Frigate and the 5/1 Maquis Raider (this one also works great with CSV).

Question about "Mixed Armament Synergy": If you use the morphogenic tourette in the back, does it count, even though it uses the beam ability much more often than the actual cannon ability?

on 4/4, dbbs, 2 omnis and 2 turrets with csv1 are still better than 8 arrays. Also the chronos can use the ourobouros console.

Ngl, when you mentioned you were doing a top 5 BO ship list I thought of 2 things; 1) curious about the list, 2) what a lazy content idea as tbh thats what top x list vids often are. Idk why I thought this would be lazy content as: - I've seen your cannon top 5 which was anything but lazy - I know your content, nothing is being half *ssed - And you covering from the rona, even if it was lazy content, good for you. That being said, great vid! I can throw the idea of me thinking I'm getting close to end-game builds straight out of the window 😀 I really hope you'll be doing vids like these for the other firemodes or perhaps launch 1 more vid with them combined in 1. I'm at a point where I'm starting to understand which gear, traits, etc work for what but not what the best choices are. These vids are like a guide where to build/purchase towards. Great work and I hope you get 100% well soon.

Haha holy fuck. The Husnock. I saw the thumbnail and thought it was weird someone made "default sci-fi ship" in Blender for this video. It's actually a ship in STO.

Time was when BO used a massive amount of power, so it was really only an Engineer Captain skill.

I usually use the discovery torp to pair with Lorcas custom firing console. Because beam overload won't compete if you don't have enough crit chance and severity.

Hope you see this at some point. What are your thoughts on the Arbiter or Amarie for a BO build?

I've been using the world razor juggernaut and it's actually a pretty good beam boat.

Why isn't the Inquiry or the Lexington on this list? MW+Intel seating makes one OP beam ship.

Irrelevant to the subject of the video, but since you mentioned it at one point: can you imagine how much money Cryptic would make if they suddenly announced that the tommy gun from the Captain Picard bundle would now be an account unlock?

not all that much as the hype behind it has died somewhat and the rest of the bundle is still pretty trash for its price. But it would sell more than it does rn.

I am running a torp/ beam with BO, Superweapon Ingenuity, and Surgical Strikes. So it does ok. Most times I see the little ships disappear before BO is finished LOL. Big ships don't last long either as 2xBO and they are usually gone. I tried FAW but it took longer to kill ships than BO despite it having "supposedly" better stats. I still prefer BO as I said before because the enemies actually die faster. I also try to run Distributed Targetting with it when I can on builds instead of Surgical Strikes. Depends on the ship. I tried ERL but it was dismal. The Hirogen Hunter is a fun ship to use especially with cannons. I run Delta AP as it is better than Beta AP imho.

Regarding Delta vs Beta. Delta will only apply a debuff to foes that shoot you. Beta will apply to any foe your weapons hit. There are also some borg doffs that have a chance to give you Delta. So running Beta and one of those doffs (like 12 of 47) means you will have both Beta and Delta up at various points.

can you do like top 5 career based ships

Only thing I found that was a bit off was that we'd used to run weapons power so that it never overcapped with EPtW3 due to overcap not being beneficial with BO. Maybe that changed, but would explain why I and many others ran lower weapon power levels. Think Marcus did too but last time I played was over a year ago.

Yeah, I remember some discussion about that a while back, but couldn't quite remember the specifics. Either way, with these "best of" vids, generally hit a wider audience, so if I get even a few people to move from balanced presets to the attack one, will be good.

So I have the 4th best one available on all toons and the 2nd one along with the Miradorn on my main who unfortunately doesn't do beam builds.

i've actually been struggling with cannon builds as of late as my friends would say i have the reflexes of a dead cat, [ sorry if that offended anyone pretty much switchbing all my builds to beams so i at least know i will be hitting something, lol thanks for vid

I run Miracle Worker Gagarin and Archon for my phaser build. Most my issues come down to pilot error (being too close to an exploding ship)

Needed 2 Mins to discover this little Spencer in the lower right corner :p

C store legendary terran galaxy come with best hope for the empire BO trait can also run oss, ss, or be a torp boat. 😮 Can run aux to bat 1&2 but i use photonic ii and a2b 1 that way i can keep rsp and epwiii and concentrate firepower iii (for my torp) epw engines and shields. Running mogi shield console. also running rally point. Pretty invulnerable and doing great damage. Even the borg cant keep my shields down. 👍 Hazard and brace on the spam bar (strategist / intel) and engineering team 1 for hull heal. But you could run a torp or sci setup. Great option for BO. Can also do ss with mixed armerment and or etm. Also comes with aggony weapons.... Extra nice for like 40$

Aye, but I'll likely want to spend some time with ERL before I do. But with MW being a hard requirement, I can tell you right now that the Inquiry and Vaadwaur Juggernaut would be the best ships for it, by a large margin.

I recently got a Inquiry, immolating phaser Lance and the spearhead refit for the trait. What is the 2 piece console set for the husnock? And do you have an Inquiry b/o build. My guy is actually science for fun my main can run meta space magic and csv tank etc.

@@CasualSAB ahh I remembered when the sale was on I wanted the Miradorn raider for something but couldn't remember why.

Not all Australians came from convicts, the British eventually returned to bring back and execute the majority of convicts they sent here, a lot of settlers traveled here too, next to none of the families linked to any remaining convicts exist anymore. Besides I'm surprised an American would want to refer to Australians that way since it was the British who tried to take over America.

After a very long time away I come back and start looking at builds. Then I discover most of them require I either dump a couple hundred more hours to grind billions of credits or spend enough money to buy half the Star Citizen ships in order to get some of these builds together. I'll have to figure out builds that'll work well enough I suppose. But hey, I can use these to help figure out what to look for.

Dont have time to watch saved for later but wondering what ship is showing at beginning page.

Dhailkhina - 2nd on this list, 2nd on csv list, probably a top torp boat, best ship in the game you think?

I have a question about Override Subsystem Safeties 3: it says 0 to 50 more power but the maxinum lvl for a system is 125/130 ? so if this excedeed this limite is not useless?

OSS allows you to bypass that 125 limit. So you can briefly have 175 weapon power with rank 3 of it. Even higher is possible, seen people have over 200 weapon power for a few seconds before when stacking loads of power boost.

The MW D7 is a very capable ship. Just doesn't have as much punch vs Recursive options, or the ships like the Dhailkhina that just have a massive amount of firepower.

What matters most is the bridge officer setup, then weapon layout. That makes or breaks a ship. If you're a fan of a specific cruiser, then go for it. Beam overload can be run on literally every single ship in this game.

The Ent-E doesn't have any super amazing options, but the Fleet Intel one can do ok, and there is a Legendary version in the $200 10th anniversary bundle (available a times throughout the year). For the Ent-D, the T5 and many of the T6 versions are not great, but there are some better versions out there. The World Razer is a lockbox variant that has a massive amount of firepower. And if you're ok with the 3 nacelle variant, the legendary one is solid and is available for under $40 during sales.

There are good and bad versions. The Enterprise-E hasn't had as much attention though sadly, and none of its variants really stand out. Basically "just another cruiser" rather than anything special.

wouldnt the suliban also work, or fleet shepard? think those are options that offer a bit more survivability which is welcome is you arent doing organised runs!

The Fleet Shepard would do quite well. The Suliban is nice, but the Shepard has a better layout for this type of build.

Is OSS really worth it? I've heard if it shuts down your engines it can kill a run.

That is a risk for sure, but that can be countered by batteries, eng team, and several other options. OSS provides a very nice boost that makes it worth the risk.

Also torp has been nerfed pretty bad now

GCD means global cooldown. the minimum cooldown of BO is not a GCD. please do not misuse these terms.

I tried this game and found it lacking, the tmp era ships have dual emitters, but yet fires a single beam, wth! I had this completely dismayed Watch DS 9. God forbid they actual show the Miranda class with the weapon roll bar firing the phase cannons. Like what happened in ST 2.

so the Hoover is better than the Gagarin for beam overload.....if so now I gotta go buy the hoover.

Can i get the Acheron from the campaign?

Not with the 2022 Event Campaign IV box as you're not allowed to get any ships in the box that were released the year of that event campaign. But with this upcoming Event Campaign V in 2023, you will have the Acheron as an option.

Superweapon Ingenuity is a must have trait for beam overload builds. But when it comes to actually using beam overload, the Xinid-Ateleth ship that trait comes from isn't that great. MW does work quite well with most energy weapon builds. However, with Beam Overload, ships that have a Temporal seat to run Recursive Shearing tend to perform a bit better in environments where targets live long enough. In situations where targets die quickly, Recursive can't do as much, so MW will do a bit better there.

In the majority of cases shield power is going to be doing very little for you. You're typically better off running max weapon power and then dumping the rest into engines or aux depending on your build.

This is good advice that you give. But unfortunately everything dies within seconds. They must make the enemy NPCs have like 10 times more health to make the game more satisfining. Quite often i don't even have time to activate anything since everything dies so very fast that isn't fun. The company of STO must make the ships having at least 10 times more health and hit at least 3 times harder to be any fun. Please if you have access to the developers of STO please tell them this!
