I just did this on my 23. Best video out there. Thank you for making it and having such great camera angles. The only thing that worries me is that there was nothing to "cut" with an exacto knife. My wrx came with the "factory sti short throw shifter" option and the shift lever shape wasn't tapered for me to cut- it was more a chunky square. It definitely hits into the front and rear stop but goes right Into gear- all of them. So I'm worried but didn't want to just break out a Dremel for the heck of it! Hope it doesn't hurt the car. When in gear, I've still got some play toward neutral front to back as Perrin says you need. Oh well

Perrin should fabricate a one piece system and simplify all that.

they can't due to the type of transmission. Everything floats and is connected with a rod. all of our cars wont have the same precise fit. Adding a transmission mount, pitch stop mount, brass shifter bushing, driveshaft center support, diff inserts and a positive shift kit will all contribute to locking down the cars slop significantly, but will transfer a lot of road noise.

Does this work with the STI short throw shifter? Edit: just saw your note at the end of the video 😅

Will this work with the Billetworz sts kit?

use locktite and actually torque it to spec if you want this to last

But do you actually need to cut/trim the tabs off? If it doesn’t touch, it’s okay to just leave it right?

If yours aren’t touching then possibly, but i still would give it a shot just incase

Seems a lot simpler than installing a short shifter, which for a while I didn't realize how hard it is to do.

that's what i'm thinking too- i'm gonna do this after my shift ends and i have the bushings, but i wanna order the shift plate soon enough and just not have to deal with everything in the short throw kit

Got Mine installed and first gear seems hard to go In sometimes but idk if it’s because I was used to It before the shifter stop?

It was still hard to get into after adjusting it? If it isn't set right, you could destroy your transmission.

I’ve been using it like that and it seems fine. Only once In a while, 1st is hard to go in but after a second try it goes in smooth.

@JoeStuart it's supposed to be rigged to .12" of "slop" but if it's rigged too far to the right, there's no slop. You're essentially barely allowing it to go far enough to engage. I can't remember the exact technical explanation. Something to the effect of always being almost out of gear in first and second. Also, if the reverse lockout gets disturbed, you can potentially go from 6th to race and F your shit up. Subaru is also really strict on shift stops because the huge majority of their transmission warranty claims have a note from the mechanic that an aftermarket shift stop was installed. *hint* If you have one installed, ALWAYS remove it before taking it to the dealership. Dealerships received a note from SOA saying to basically reject any warranty claims involving a shift stop.

Dealer should’ve put a build sheet in your glovebox, if not you could call Subarus customer service and they’ll be able to tell by the VIN
