The tension knob exists so you don't punch a hole through your drywall when you can't find a stud. I know my landlord wouldn't let me use one without it. It also makes the tilting head more viable.

I have a set of autopoles with a manfrotto crossbar between them. I use it for top down footage but I'm having issues with how wobbly they can be if you brush by them. Also by the way, you can buy a 2 pack of silver ones from B&H for like 178, much cheaper than getting the black ones, or as singles.

25 years later, my return on investment with the Manfrotto Autopoles II continues... Other manufacturers can copy the autopoles, but there’s nothing comparable to the original!

Can you use this wall to wall, i.e. horizontally? If not, whats the alternative?

Definitely not. I have had problems with it keeping tension long-term, and I wouldn't do wall to wall. You can get a "wall spreader" if you can't attach in, or you can mount this vertically and run a pole on it via clamps.
Is there a extension for the Impact like there is for the Manfrotto?

Sure is! Just search for "Impact Varipole Extension" and you should find it.
Probably an issue so trivial you don't have an answer (BTW-- great video. Clear. Informative. Relevant. And pretty darn funny for a video comparing light stands.). But what's the difference between these two: Manfrotto 432-3.7B Deluxe Autopole vs the Manfrotto 032B Single Autopole?

Without Googling it, I'm pretty sure the only difference is the that the top head of the "deluxe" can swivel to account for a non-flat ceiling.
