As a kid, I used to clean my late father's aquarium with the magnetic one in early 2000. He used to be so proud that I clean his aquarium without him asking me to do it. Now, I'm in tears remembering those moments. 😭 Having an aquarium with fish can help you bond with your children. And also teaches them the meaning of life, natural food chain and taught them to be grateful for whatever meat you eat.

I have a magnetic one for my large tank, never had an issue with it and it's been years. I've even noticed that when you wanna swap sides, you can just move the handle to the other corner and the scrubber will either float away then quickly float back and attach cause magnets or just stay together lol And worse case scenario, mine floats so. I never lose it lol

I think a small magnetic one is good to keep clipped on the side for quick fast maintenance. And keep a metal scraper for those hard to reach places or the more built up algae spots the metal blade is the best. The sponge is okay too. But the plastic one simply isnt strong enough it just goes right over the algae...

Since your goldfish keep getting stuck between the sponge filters in your big tubs, have you ever considered implementing a kind of grid like divider? It may lessen the swimming area for the fish but would keep them from getting over to the sponges. Or, you could put the sponge filters in kind of a “cage” or box with holes too small for your fish to get through. That might help lessen the worry when you travel.

I feel like mag floats and this similar one are actually really good for the aquarium community. People over-treat with chemicals so much. Often just because there’s buildup on the glass. It gets a lot of fish killed. Being able to just scrape it off without getting messy/wet is a great alternative

I used to clean 2x 300gal and 1 500gal bow tank a few times a week- the magnetised sponges were lifesavers and saved me soooo much time. They’re also great for cleaning windows from the outside! (Assuming you have initial access to the outside pane & remember to secure the handle to something so it doesn’t fall to the ground accidentally when you pull your side too far… source: me tryina do the tanks and having to go find the other half floating around somewhere) I have the smell of salt tanks in my nose now 🥰

I always end up scratching the glass after one year of carefully using the magnetic one. After one year I either want to be more efficient and rush through it, or no longer care as much. I don't use them anymore. I keep forgetting fish can spit substrate on top of the magnetic scraper and I start using it and end up scraping sand/gravel that managed to wedge itself between the glass and scraper
