If Nick Best can still be competing at 127 years old, then there’s still a chance for me too!

as they say for planting trees, "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” So don't worry about when you start, just do it and progress further in the sport guys :)
I started at 36. I turn 40 this year, I'm stronger than I've ever been
I'm 49, just started back in the gym two years ago after too long off. Well, I'm lifting better and heavier than ever before. I likely will not be in any contests, but who cares, I'm beating me and smashing my own best numbers ever. Cheers!

I´m 59 started in the gym two years 7 months and 24 days, after 27 years off ! i am lifting good numbers. i wont compete either and i am fighting aging, our common enemy, welcome to the club ;-) ;-) my main motivation is: its FUN lifting ! huge thanks to LOZ, TERRY and BRIAN, i found my way into strongman training ! (i was a former B.B. heavyweight champion and overall winner in 1992, but who cares ... LOL ) Cheers from Austria / Franz
Mark Felix is incredible, I always root for him whenever he’s competing.
I am 60 now and had a 23 year long career as a competing powerlifter starting at age 29. I peaked at 40 setting PB in all events, ending at age 52 performing at 90% of my PB level.
My problem is I was a powerlifter at 16. And a pretty good one too. I stopped at 18 due to injuries. Started training again at 34 but all I seem to do is chase what I could do at 18. I hate myself for it, but I keep doing it over and over. I've done nothing during lock down and I plan to train a little bit smarter and not worry about what I used to do. We'll see how that pans out
Hey Loz! I’m 57 and I started implementing strongman lifts in my regimen!! Farmers walk bars, 150lb sandbag, axle bar, 90.5” deadlift bar!! I absolutely love doing the lifts. I don’t rush it with the poundages. I just have fun with it!! I intend on doing strongman exercises for the long haul!!
Im 29 and just started, I was strictly a powerlifter before. Switching to strongman was the best damn Decision I have ever made.

Good advice Loz.
This is why i have you as my coach 💪❤️
Thx for the great advice man! Respect 👑

Another great video.
Great motivational video
Thanks for putting this out man... im 39 and a very accomplished powerlifter about to do my first novice strongman meet.. i just hope to do well and keep up!
Uncle Loz is getting me pumped up!
great advice Loz. Fewer excuses for people these days to get started. I started in 1999 and there was no internet, no local or even regional gyms doing anything strongman, no equipment available to buy. It was a pretty lonely place, and very misunderstood. I finished after a couple of years very disheartened with a string of injuries. I would have killed to have all the info [and equipment] available we sometimes take for granted today ! I started again a few years later, I was now 39, and enjoyed a few good years of training and things had improved.....so much info on the internet, bought some equipment and found a gym that did some events as well. Good times, but it came a bit late for me. I finished 4 years ago, not achieving as much as I wanted, but it was great and I will never regret all the effort even if my achievements were very low to most people. would love to start again knowing what I know now. thanks for all your great videos Loz !
This one is amazing :D
Words of wisdom! 🍻
Thank you uncle loz!!🐐
Great advice! I personal pet peeve on social media is when you see people do fake shit to make themselves bigger than they actually are.
Wise words !! Can’t wait for gyms to open in a few days ! This break has given me a whole new level of motivations to be the strongest I can be 💪🏻
This is very informative Loz and what you said about social media was spot on.. People often compare their life to others just to have a sense of accomplishment or satisfaction that they're better than everyone.. I cant even begin to tell you how toxic that is..
This is some Important Information right here👌🏻
I love this advice. I’m 39. Started doing Bootcamp/HIIT stuff at a local gym after years of inactivity. Just started powerlifting training at a local gym that also has Strongman implements, which I am excited to eventually learn. I just wanna be the best athlete I can personally be!
It would be awesome to see you compete again one day, you are a legend. I have followed you on KZread since your first video. Sad to see you retire, but glad you are staying in the sport so much.
Another great video big loz this is why I enjoy watching your videos because of your knowledge of the sport. I'm 44 now but will be compeateing at ultimate Wales strongest man on September the 27th if it go's ahead so yes age is not a problem like you said Set your goal and improve but most of all enjoy the journey
Like Morris said earlier, I hope it's 49! Been dabbling in powerlifting for a few decades and like to think I might have helped get my nephew into the sport as well. He's since moved on to Strongman, and it's been fun to see his progress. Well, he's gone off on his 4th deployment and I promised him that when he comes back safe, I'll do a strongman contest with him. So I'm trying to figure this all out in time to accomplish three things by April 2021: Keep my promise Have fun Don't break anything The first two should be easy... never can guarantee the last! Thanks for posting this Loz... your videos always seem to come out at just the right time when we need them the most.
This is great advice for life, not just strongman. Great vid Loz!
love the content Funcle Loz...i am 34 and have been nursing a mystery shoulder injury for almost 4 years and im happy to say that as of today i have re-re-entered the thousand lb club upping my squat to 315 with the goal in mind to compete in a strongman comp by the time im 40
So your saying your making a comeback 🤞...that's what I got from the video along with great advice 👍
Really needed this buddy I've been training 5-6 months in strength training and I've had my doubtful moments but I've dusted my self down and gone again.
I love lifting. And for me it’s just having fun
I feel like strength sports are more forgiving to age provided as long as you take care of injuries/tendons/joints, is that not true? Because many strength athletes continue to get stronger into their 40s and even 50s, with their strongest being later in their 40s despite a persons physical "peak" being in their mid 20s. I'm fairly sure this is the case. I'm a younger guy, 23. But they call it "old man strength" for a reason.
Great video!! I was just asking myself this question a couple days ago. You made some great points in this video. You earned yourself another subscriber thank you

Personally being 17 yrs old i am a huge fan of strongman and like to do whatever i can with my gyms equipment (farmers, axle) but i am not yet confident in my strenght levels. Looking forward to improving a lot in the future. Keep making this awesome content Loz :)
Big love uncle loz from lozz
Always wanted to ask this question. Thanks big loz for this video. In this era we even got a chance masters world's strongest man.
another good chunk of advice from uncle loz. i have been training a good friend of mine for just over a year now. hes 35 and didnt ever really give it a go till this past year. The progress hes made has been basically a whole year of steady noob gains. Its like his body was begging to be trained and now its not wasting any time tossing on strength.
I'm 50 years old and I dont lift weights i just do calisthenics 1000 pushups 5 days aweek everyday , then i do 200 dips then 45 min hitting the heavy bag feel fantastic age is only a number, what's important is what your personal goals are and how u feel dont compare your self to anyone but your self

Starting as a baby is definitely an advantage by the time you're 35 you will have made alot more gains. If they work hard. Totally agree with the loz.other people aren't talking about these nuanced aspects of competitive sport.u da man.the message you are spreading is exactly what most people need to hear.
Go on uncle loz
Planning on starting strongman in my mid forties.
I did my first contest last year at 50 years old. It’s was a dream come true!
Been training all my life and been trying to get to strongman level, but every year the bar gets higher and higher with the new strongmen and freaks of nature, I'm now 43 and I've even pondered whether I'm getting on a bit to compete, but i guess there's always the masters i could do. 💪💪
To me strength is definitely a marathon I eventually want to compete in strongman as a long time fan the problem is everyone wants everything yesterday ..
Great video, im 29 and starting some powerlifting, could you consider in some time making a video about exercises for starting strongman?

I'll be 24 this year and clearly understand what uncle Loz is saying here at age 19 I injured my lowerback due to excessive deadlift and at that point I realized this things needs time,I know I'm strong but I don't rush it I just focus on myself and slowly climb age doesn't matter I know I will get there👍🏾
When would you recommend getting a coach? Like is there any point when your not close in strength and body weight? Or is it just when you hit a plateau?
Awesome video Loz, and to be honest the answer is what I expected :D I'm 27 now and I started going to the gym (consistently) about half a year ago. During the time of lockdown I did home workouts with some resistance bands, dumbells and some bodyweight exercises. I'm from Austria, and from what I could find, there's only one gym in Austria with strongman equipment, and it's in Vienna. Vienna is about 4 hours of driving away from my home, so obviously I can't go there for my regular (monday-friday) workouts. I still want to do some Strongman-style training though because I think events like the Yoke (with humane amounts of weight) would actually be great full body exercises, and because I want to get at least a little taste of what it feels like to use that type of equipment. Any suggestions?

@@BigLozOfficial Thanks! I'll ask him for places to train. One event that wouldn't be hard to replicate is the truck pull. But of course, if I wanna pull a big truck one day, I should probably start by pulling a small car first. But I have no idea at what point I would be strong enough to do it without hurting myself. Do you think a deadlift PR of around 150kg is enough to pull a ~1100kg car?

Hey Tom, i am from Austria too, facing the same problem; i am 59 and found my way into strongman 2 3/4 years ago. (Back in 1992 i was a national B.B. heavyweight champ) Here is my strongman gym solution: first i made a deadlift platform, bought a squat rack, 3 different barbells + some weights and a rack, an adjustable bench, an old pulldown machine, some dumbbels, made a rack for them from scrap metal, Hyperextension rack, abdominal machine, a metal log, crash mats and finally a big new legpress. for outdoors: old tractor tyres, a new farmers walk set, and recently i bought atlas stones from Wales @ Spartan Atlas stones, 50kg up to 130kg for truck pull i use my own 3,7 t tractor ;-) its not that expensive, if you plan on working out longer than a year or two.... if you are interested to get your own "stuff", i could PM you where i got mine. cheers Franz

@@franz61xxl13 Hey Franz, thanks for the insight! I have a gym nearby but it's probably the world's smallest gym. Nevertheless, it has all the essentials so I can bench press, deadlift, squat, leg press etc. there, that is no problem. But there is not much beyond that. It just so happens that my dad is a mechanic and welder, so maybe could make a DIY yoke for me from some metal scraps. And I could pull my mum's Suzuki Swift for the time being until I get stronger, and one day I'll be able to pull a truck as well. But I would still be interested in more strongman equipment, too.

A few months ago I'd say my goal was to be even a little bit like guys like Thor and Eddie. Then recently I saw a vid of an Australian guy, masters 2 class, had to be over 60 maybe even 70, pulling 305kg, and I reevaluated what I believe true strength and Power to be. Or do you wanna take your time, program safely, and still be able to pull numbers when most other people your age use walkers?

Attitude and conditioning, if you tell yourself you can’t do something for arbitrary reasons you’re failing yourself before you’ve tried, and conditioning doesn’t happen overnight but the human body adapts and adjusts just persist, I went back to Rugby league after five years off I was out of shape and unfit but I persisted I went from the fat bastard gassed after five minutes, to our powerhouse hard hitter and brick wall defender, different sports same concept though.

Yep. I think including strongman type training is good basic training for life in general and remaining capable as one ages and I've moved towards that type of training in my mid 50ies, from strenuous endurance. I actually think it is even more important as one ages. Pick up, push, carry, drag, pull and press awkward and heavy things with good form for as long as you can.
