I've never seen The Peanuts Movie, though I've wanted to forever. But MAN. Captain Underpants. That movie is just fantastic. I think my favorite part is how they don't do that cliche of the main friends with opposing personalities ending up hating each other, only to make amends during the climax. Probably one of the most annoying tropes for me. And they had things set up to do just that! But I'm so glad they didn't.

Yes, I watched both movies and they pretty fit well in. CGI. I remember watching the Peanuts movie in theatres when it came out, but I only watched the Captain Underpants movie at home. To me, the Captain Underpants movie would be the first time one of Dav Pilkey’s characters would come to life (I also find it to be an improvement over The Boss Baby in terms of release order and was a good way to end the 20th Century Fox era of DreamWorks Animation).
If a hug was converted into a movie, that’s what the Peanuts Movie is. It’s so cozy and satisfying to watch, it feels organic and cute. Meanwhile Captain Underpants is a homage to the books it was originally based on, celebrating it’s humorous story and showing you the imagination of two fourth grade buddies in their own silly way. These movies meant a lot to me when I saw them and I’m happy they got the fair treatment they deserve.
Peanuts is an underrated gem, I love that it’s so simplistic. I agree with your point about the Snoopy side plot. It defines takes away from the overall effect of the movie, but… they gotta entertain the toddlers.
@rofyle
Жыл бұрын
Not toddlers. Boomers. Snoopy was the draw in early Peanuts strips and animated features. He was the Hobbes to Calvin & Hobbes Calvin. He was such a draw that they made an entire movie just about him. "Snoopy Come Home." They also gave him a big part in the Peanuts trip to France.
When I heard Captain Underpants was getting a movie, I was OVER ecstatic. Dav Pilkey is without a doubt the best and most nostalgic children's book writer ever since Dr. Seuss. And even after re-watching the movie several times, I still can't help but smile at it. Thanks to Dav Pilkey for being the pinnacle of everyone's childhood 👍

@@Parkigion That’s in development, but you know what else we can’t wait to see one day? Graphic novels (or Scholastic books in that style) and film adaptations previously mentioned at the beginning of the whole franchise that are based on comics made by characters (George and Harold) at Tree House Comix Inc.! (Timmy the Talking Toilet and The Amazing Cow Lady. I would go with Dog Man, but that’s already been turned into a full-fledged series as of the post-2000s since the long-awaited Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers!)
Something that I only recently realized but appreciate a lot about the Captain Underpants Movie is how all the 4th Wall breaks are set up. They aren’t set up like normal meta jokes like winking at the camera, but rather they seem to be set up as if George and Harold are *imagining* their life as a movie. From them singing the DreamWorks theme at the start, to their fake credit sequence, to the “Flip-O-Rama” scene, it all feels like what a kid would do when they’re imagining their own life as a feature film. They think of what studio they’d want to work with, they think of the action sequences, they think of who would help with the movie. It doesn’t only add another layer of relatability, but it also furthers amplifies the authenticity of the characters being goofy friends wanting to have fun with their lives.

Man... I remember I saw Captain Underpants in the theaters. That movie was a blast to go through. Still one of my favorite DreamWorks movies of the 2010's
One thing I love about the Captain Underpants movie is that it's actually pretty bad at adapting the story from the books. It takes plot beats from books 1, 2, and 4, as well as just making things up, and yet despite all of that, it so perfectly captures what makes the stories great and is an incredibly charming and nostalgic watch. It's my defining evidence that an adaptation doesn't need to copy a story beat-for-beat to be great. This is a mish-mash of stories from across the books, but it still holds up as an incredible adaptation for how perfectly it captures the heart of the books.
@TheBiller21

Adapting from the books holds it back as just a remake honestly. That’s what made the diary of a wimpy kid live action movies better than the animated ones.

Exactly! I hated it the first time I saw it (I was 12), because the story was so different, but now that I'm older, I've come to fully appreciate the other ways in which it's faithful to the source material. It's clear the people working on the film had a lot of respect for the novels. The Netflix series also does a decent job of adapting the general style of the books imo, but takes it in a slightly different direction.
I watched these two movies and I can relate that peanuts is a comfort movie. It's so wholesome and has so much fluff into it. For the Captain Underpants movie it's like a world where as child would see it, and I bet if you would watch this again it would make you feel like a kid again. The flip-o-rama (sorry if I didn't spell that corectly) is honestly my favorite especially if you read the books. Also Professor Poopy Pants THE BEST NAME FOR A VILLAN
I could never say anything bad about the Peanuts movie. I have so much nostalgia with it, I watched it so many times at my grandma’s house.

@@jmachero5852 Yep. It kept the same dark elements and the traditional moments from the original Collodi novel. Let's see... - Pinocchio is a much more brash and rowdy character - He burns his legs on a fireplace - He kills the Cricket with a mallet - The Fairy summons 4 coffin-bearing rabbits due to Pinocchio's carelessness - Lampwick is originally named Candlewick - The "Whale" is much closer to its original counterpart, which is not really a whale but a giant sea monster called The Terrible Dogfish.

@@LazyOldFusspot_3428 Yeah, I get that the film is supposed to be much different than the Disney version but I find it unexpected that in the end of the del toro version is that Pinocchio DIDN’T become a real boy in the end. I wonder if that’s what happened in the original book. Not that I really know much of the original book.
@maxwellmarques1607
Жыл бұрын
@@jmachero5852 No, in the novel Pinocchio did become a real boy in the end. He shed his immortal wooden body and took on a fleshy mortal form, but they kept the lifeless puppet in the corner of their house. I think I like the del Toro version better; it shows that, on the inside, Pinocchio is and always has been as real a boy as any boy can hope to be, and he doesn't need to physically change who or what he is in order to be thought of as such. But of course, Mr. Del Toro's intent when he made it was to send a message that it's better to accept people for who they are, flaws and all, than to try and mold them to force them to fit into a pre-established system, like the military camp does, for example. The intended effect of the original novel was different, Mr. Collodi lived in an Italy plagued by times of crisis and poverty, and all he really wanted with the story was to teach children that those who disobey their parents and don't work to earn their keep gain nothing but suffering. It's a very melancholic tale, even with Pinocchio getting what he wanted in the end, as even though he is now a "real boy", a model Italian citizen, his family is still heavily impoverished, and he still had his childhood essentially taken away from him, as he still lives in this meager and moribund state, toiling away in physical labor even as a young lad to keep him and his father from starving to death in an environment where there isn't really a lot to go around.

Never watched Captain Underpants, but I just know that it's probably one of the few actually great Dreamwork movies (imo anyways) next to Shrek 1 and 2, The Bad Guys, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2. Who knows, maybe I'll definitely feel like a kid again when I watch Captain Underpants.
I swear to GOD the captain underpants theme song hits harder then any other movie outro theme I’ve ever heard!
As a kid, I absolutely loved the Cap. Underpants books, and I feel like the movie really did justice the overall experience of reading of of Dav Pilkey’s works. My family and I always enjoy the old Peanuts TV series, so we felt very stoked about that adaptation, too.
the peanuts movie is amazing. The animation is so wholesome and captures the comics style in a 3-2ish D style, the characters are amazing and so is the story. I kinda wish we got a sequel, but it’s still nice to watch
The world didn't deserve these movies and we are not worthy. I'm so happy I own the Captain Underpants movie as I read all the books. I was smiling the whole way, and I gave Peanuts a second watch and actually enjoyed it. Luca was a surprise, and although my family hate Turning Red, I adore it's animation and comedy and loved it even through it's amazing credits
The Lego, SpongeBob, and Captain Underpants Movies being unironically great movies that do practically everything right proves that humanity has reached its peak
The one thing I love about the Charlie Brown movie is just how down to earth it is, and how it’s such a feel good movie and really feels like the finally happy ending to the Charlie Brown saga ^w^
6:38 A perfect example of this is the Smiling Friends episode where the characters were literally stuck at an airport the entire time and nothing happens but it's still fun to watch.
My fave thing about the Captain Underpants movie is how accurately it represents how it feels to be a student (other than the Captain Underpants coming to life stuff), same with Charlie Brown with, well, being a kid
Captain underpants and peanuts are my childhood, I'm happy it's getting some attention now

The best part about these movies is that they're memorable because of their humor, unlike a lot of other movies 😗😗
There are so many Easter eggs and care put into the story. Going back to child voice actors, hand drawn animation, and staying true to Snoopy using a typewriter and those old style home phones, was all intentional and I love that they did that. Snoopy's storyline wasn't that engaging to me either, but if fits into the world and I'm sure others love it. I heard it was originally supposed to be called the Charlie Brown and Snoopy movie, and I think that would've been perfect, because the movie encapsulates their relationship rather than translating the entire Peanuts world and universe onscreen. Thanks for letting me gush about this
I think the cameos of the villains in the tree house and the "everything but fabric softener store" cameo shows how mutch they love the audience!
i love reading graphic novels, and watching these kind of 3D animated movies makes it feel like im reading one of them. the animation style of the peanuts movie literally owns my heart its so cute its like 3d but 2d i dont know why but its the best

When i rewatched these movies,i basically admire all of the jokes and the animations for a whole 90 minutes of Fun and dumb jokes that always laugh, even a Captain Underpants style movie even in years makes me laugh to this day.
Another Dav Pilky series, Dog Man, is actually really good too. Its aware that it’s making potty humor and it embraces its silliness, and it can also have really heartfelt moments, especially with Petey’s development.
When I heard that they were doing Captain Underpants, I was VERY EXCITED! I had basically read every Captain Underpants book and always wondered; would they ever make a movie? And now that the movie exists, it’s safe to say that it’s a very great, hilarious movie by our Supreme Master: DreamWorks animation studios, SKG! It stayed true to the nature of the books and maybe if DW makes another Dav Pilkey adaptation, like DogMan. It’ll be just as good

These movies are some of my favorites. Well, I actually haven’t watched Peanuts movie, but I’ve seen a little bit of it on Nickelodeon. But I’ve always loved Captain Underpants movie! I hope there will be more movies like these.

I loved the Captain Underpants books since I was like 7 or 8, and The Captain Underpants movie is still one of my favorite movies of all time
The Post Credits scene for Captain Underpants is still something I consider to be one of DreamWorks' Greatest achievements. 😂
( I know you probably won’t read this but ) This is an amazing video you put a lot of effort into talking about movies, and the way you make them just makes me laugh I love these kinds of videos they keep me entertained.

I agree with this whole video! Like The Peanuts movie has its own thing and doesn’t force you to like anything like many shows do! Also like Captain Underpants movie literally made me get into comic books! ALSO! I ADORE UR HOW U CHANGE UR DRAWINGS SO IT CAN LOOK LIKE THE MOVIE U ARE REVIEWING IS SUCH A NICE TOUCH! 💕✨💃🕺
I'm so happy you refrenced Mother 3 at 15:15! As a Mother fan i really appreciate it.

1 complaint of the captain underpants movie: They made a Captain Underpants movie and didn't have any time travel
When I was about 6 or 7, I would spend HOURS in my closet reading captain underpants at 11pm. So when I saw the movie, that was the only thing in my head for a month. Until I couldn't find a streaming service for that movie! Any other way, I LOVE the movie and the book.they bring back my inner child
I like how we get some nice decently sized videos, then out of nowhere a masterpiece drops out of nowhere!
This makes me even more excited for The Super Mario Bros Movie
One of my childhood memories was running home in elementary on the weekend the movie came out and watching it on my family firestick on the big tv in the living room. This movie was just spectacular and I do admit I even got the second hand embarrassment of the boys when Captain Underpants was running around the city
from what i have heard, dav pilkey wanted someone else to write the story of the movie by making them read the books and wanted to see how they would interpret captain underpants. also for dreamworks to persuade dav pilkey to make the movie he gave him a tour of the studio while everyone was wearing underpants over their trousers
