It looks like, if you wanted, you could ditch the red box altogether and mount the compressor and condenser however you wanted. Side by side so the whole thing isn't as deep, even? Looking forward to hearing how well that unit works!

You’re correct the box isn’t needed, but there must be sufficient free space behind the condenser to allow for ample airflow and heat dissipation. For example it would not dissipate heat well if condenser was mounted directly to the flat van surface with 1” clearance.

If this thing cools well and holds up you are onto something. We just installed a 110 mini split (cool/heat) but it took a lot of space and will take a lot of power.

@@outsidenomad good to know - looking forward to seeing the performance output. I had been intending on using a 120V mini split in our Fuso, but this looks like a reasonable little unit.

It's not a radiator, it is called a condenser. Where the refrigerant is condensed into a high pressure liquid.

I have one of these in the semi-truck, it works perfect, only issue is that it didn’t last a month, an error code came on E01, now it works for five to ten minutes and shuts

What’s the error code mean?

Very interesting. Does the radiator have to be vertical or can it lay flat? I assume there is no room in the engine bay - so you could mount the radiator in front of your main radiator and eliminate the fan altogether?

@@outsidenomad Ahhh yes of course - its for the box. Yeah, I was thinking of cab AC setups which you would use when driving.

Outside 'radiator' is the condenser. Inside unit is the evaporator. AC-101!

Could you please provide the name of the company of the unit and website where you found this A/C system?

Great informative video. I also watched the part 2. I ordered one from aliexpress 2 weeks ago. I purchased two 200ah Lifepo4 batts. Going to run it12v. The setup is for my 24' cabin boat, Hopefully my batteries are sufficient for a night, might need one more 200ah? we'll see. not much real world testing of these other than your vids. Hoping it averages significantly less than 75 amps an hour overnight in the small berth of the boat. Will be nice if it runs 500w on low. 45 mins an hour, getting me close to 10hrs

Definitely let me know how that all works out. I agree that your space will be easier to cool. I also run mine on a much lower setting during the night. I just want to take the edge off the heat so I can sleep.

Thanks for doing this video, I've been interested in these for a while. I'm thinking of installing one in a Sprinter van. How do you think the condenser and fan would do under the van? Would I need to build a special enclosure for it? It's nice it dosent have to be set at a 15 degree angle like the Cruisencomfort condenser. Thanks

@outsidenomad sorry I had one other question....I plan on putting the compressor inside the van which differs from your setup....is it overly loud? The box truck is great for installing things compared to a van.

EG4 has an affordable hybrid AC/DC model which could be considered. It has inverter tech, better construction, and better efficiency. The EG4 AC/DC units are completely DIY: pre-charged lineset with quick connect fittings, no vacuuming or refrigerant needed. Not sure if EG4 duty cycled for bumpy roads though. $1,299 online. "EG4 Hybrid Solar Mini-Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump AC/DC | 12000 BTU | SEER2 22 | Plug-N-Cool Do-It-Yourself Installation" from Signature Solar. These 12v units are $500 cheaper, smaller, but plastic. The interior fan motor is encased by plastic, which could melt or offgas. The whole thing seems to want to fly apart. But yeah, a 12v option, very exciting. These can be repaired by truck mechanics who are familiar with them, and that's important on the road. Plus no HVAC techs want to touch your regular mini split with a 10 foot pole unless they installed it.

This unit is too high a voltage, it does not run at 12/24/48v, it is much higher to accommodate its Solar panels 72v i think is the low side. Don't quote me on that unit, I am building out an earth roamer and did investigate that unit, it just would not work with my 24v system. I am running off of memory now it has been a while, but again it runs at a much high voltage to work with the panel voltage. Not a 12/24/48v system.

I used a rear ac unit out of a gmc denali that was smashed , added a ac compressor to the motor ran new lines , wired it and i had ac , but normal car ac , it wasn't a 12 volt ac pump , id like to have one though

I don’t think it’s very loud. It just sounds loud in the video. It’s certainly quieter than a traditional RV ac but louder than a residential mini split.

The more volts the more btu( cooling power ) usually

1. The Amazon link says it offers 13,500 BTU use at 750w power consumption; have you tested the consumption to confirm? 2. I didn't see in the Amazon link that it mentions 12V only 24V, can anyone confirm it works with 12V? Thank you! ✌🏾

The units do not work on both 12 and 24 volt. You need to specifically order the appropriate voltage. The link I originally posted had the option of choosing the 12v or 24v version. Look closely it should be there somewhere. 750 watts sounds about right with the unit on high power. I’ve never run mine on high power. I typically average about 350 watts per hour on low which cools my well insulated 14’ box just fine.

No i don't. Might be best to reach out to the manufacturer. It would be easy to switch out the main control board if perhaps it was defective

So yeah, your set have it, mine just bought have it to, so no need to worry about the compressor :D thanks for the reply and have a nice day!

I’m pretty sure you can’t change the orientation of the condenser. Gas goes in the TOP liquid comes out the BOTTOM!

My understanding or at least what the manufacturer said is that it can be upright or flat but when flat it needs to maintain an angle so that the upper port is above the lower port.
