Xavi would be a good choice. For his coaching ability, sure. But also I think he'd relish the opportunity to mould a national team in his image, without the constraints and toxicity he experienced at Barcelona. Sure, he'd face the same sort of pressure with the US, but it'd be different, he'd be treated like a legend, the players would want to put in a shift for him, and I think the public would get behind him. I know there'd be comparisons with Klinsmann, great player/average manager, but Xavi has a far better coaching pedigree than Klinsmann, and belongs to a far richer footballing tradition with Barca under Pep and the Spain team of the late 2000s/early 2010s. And to be honest, I don't see where he goes from here anyway, he's managed the club he made 700+ appearances for, won them a La Liga, been sacked, his prospects for getting a job with another major European giant look slim at the moment. Spain are looking great under de la Fuente, Saudi Arabia is just a backwards step, I think managing the US and getting them to, at best, a WC semi-final could propel him into that legendary class of coaches.

As a non-American looking in at this situation, and American sports culture in general, I feel like the US soccer federation is the only US sports federation that actually has to learn to care about international competition. American football, basketball and baseball don't have this WORLDWIDE competition (although there are different specific countries who are really good at and interested in the sport, like Japan in baseball as far as I'm aware). No one in the US basketball federation really has to give a shit about the performance of the US national team because the domestic competition, NBA, is just so dominant in the whole sport. I get the feeling that the US soccer federation feels like they can afford themselves the same level of confidence/arrogance (whatever you want to call it). It's the only big sports federation that SHOULD desperately care about performance on the international stage, but they just don't, and maybe that's because no other sports federation in the US has to. Even England, hosting the biggest domestic league in football/soccer is still judged heavily by the performance of their national team in international competitions. Granted this could be European arrogance on my part, it's just the feeling I get from this story specifically, this could be totally wrong

WE NEED OPTIMISM. The simple fact that all the fans have lost faith in him is reason enough to make a change. Even if he were a good manager he should still be replaced at this point because WE NEED OPTIMISM.

We should have hired Jesse Marsch. Yes, he struggled at Leeds obviously, but the fact is that team had serious problems. He is still an exciting coach with innovative ideas, and is proving now with the nobody Canada team he can succeed at the international level too. And since the federation seems to want an American coach, he is clearly the best choice.

Sad that there has to be this much pressure on this sorry excuse of a federation to make them even think about change. I'm sure whatever decision we get in the coming days will be anti-climatic! USSF needs to wake up to the sport of soccer/football and stop thinking they can do things their way like we do with the sports we invented!

6:09 We can’t field a USMNT because our talent pool is built on kids whose parents have enough money to pay for them to play at a higher level. Parents have to pay anywhere from $8-15k per year for their kids to play for a team to compete at a level that is relatively decent with the majority of their games coming through tournaments rather than weekly competition... adding to the cost of the team! We disproportionately exclude 80-85% of kids because their parents can’t afford it and so they play other sports that are much cheaper or negate their kids from playing at that level despite talent to do so. This is why soccer participation is dropping in this country. Do we realize that if Messi, Ronaldo, Modric, Xavi and a host of other players played here, they would never have been discovered here because they came from impoverished backgrounds and could not have afforded to participate with any of these teams!? That’s why we will always suck. Kids in Europe don’t have to pay to play. All they have to buy are shoes and shinguards… that is it!

Welcome to the USMNT community. I've not previously seen any of your content, so I apologize if anything I say below seems repetitive.... 1) Many within the Fan Base have been screaming at USSF to fire Gregg ever since he was re-hired after his contract expired in 2022. 2) Some fans wanted Gregg fired before the 2022 WC for his poor evaluation of players and his nonexistent tactics/strategies. 3) There was a number of people questioning Gregg's appointment from the start due to Nepotism (Gregg's brother being part of USSF leadership). 4) Anyone who's watched the USMNT for any decent amount of time acknowledges that this is the most talented group of players we've ever had at our disposal. Some will call them a "Golden Generation", but if they don't accomplish anything they'll be forgotten fairly quickly. 5) Every USMNT coach since the 1990 Team has punched above their weight class. They've gotten significant wins, shown consistency and heart. It's only under Gregg that we've seen a lack of heart/desire from the players, seen drastic swings of consistency, and failed to achieve any significant wins. 6) You referenced that MLS was the first professional outdoor soccer league in the US which came about after the 94 WC was hosted in the US. However, there was a professional outdoor soccer league in the USofA before MLS...North American Soccer League (NASL)...which ran from 1968 to 1984. I grew up watching that league and trying to emulate some of the players (Beckenbauer, etc...). When the league folded many of the teams transitioned to Indoor soccer (Chicago Sting) and survived a few more years.

All the way from England, what seems glaringly obvious is that,at a time when the growth & long term prospects of MLS have never been healthier, there is a corresponding disconnect and diminution of both the USMNT and the competency of the governing Federation that is making that of the WNBA look a model of professionalism.
