I think Carl Pickens and Darnay Scott could have been one of the top receiver duos in the league with a competent quarterback. Jeff Blake had zero accuracy. He could lob the moon ball and get lucky once in awhile, but that's about it.

@@ckobo84 I checked to see if this was actually true and...it was! I remember that Cowboys game, thinking it might be one of those "a star is born!" moments, but Blake had only one full season with a completion percentage above 60%. At least he passed for way more yards than the Bengals' 6th overall pick David Klingler from the same '92 draft.

If you're job entails running very fast, and you can't lose twenty pounds, with a whole team of nutritionists and strength coaches behind you, you just don't have any willpower. He didn't even have enough try in him to cut weight the day before he was weighed, which would have at least shown he was trying a little bit. Considering he probably got hit in the head a thousand times before this happened, one wonders if his decision making wasn't compromised.

And this was totally the last bad, embarrassing thing that happened to the Bengals in the '90s. Absolutely nothing bad happened to them in 1999. I don't know why you all keep talking about this Akili Smith guy or this declined Saints mega-trade. Clearly all of that is a figment of your imagination and it all definitely never happened.

And made a mockery of the idea that the NFL "drug tests". Unless the tests are performed totally at random, it's very easy to take drugs in a way that allows you to beat the tests.... I'm guessing that the players knew what these times were well in advance, so that they would avoid taking drugs beforehand.

Man this guys highlights are very good. Very good after the catch and had some wheels for a bigger player. It’s a shame he couldn’t keep the weight off.

I agree that BMI is flawed. I'm a tad under 6'2", and according to one hospital bmi index card, my ideal weight was in the 170s. I'm usually 205 or 210 at 46 yo. Been between 200 and 220 my whole adult life, fairly athletic, never really been "out of shape." If you eat decent, stay active, work up a sweat at least sometimes, don't smoke or drug or drink much, you don't have to look like a starving 19 yo model. You might be just fine.

Yeah, BMI thinks everybody should stay at the same weight they were in 8th grade their entire adult lives or they're "obese". Especially absurd considering the movement to force us all to consider women who are 50-100 pounds overweight or more "sexy".

I guess converting a 6'3, 240 guy into a TE was out of the question? Either way he really didn't want to play football.

It's a discipline issue. They COULD have converted him to a TE, but why reward a man with no focus or discipline? He didn't put in any effort.

Yet extremely difficult to lose it. No matter what you do. That’s why we have a billion dollar weight loss industry.

This is very similar to what happened at AC Milan with the original Ronaldo in 2007-08. Ronaldo was signed by Milan in January 2007 after having struggled to get playing time at Real Madrid the previous 2 seasons due to injuries & weight issues & in the eyes of many this was Ronaldo's last chance to get playing time at a top European club. Coach Carlo Ancelotti ordered Ronaldo to simply keep his weight under control & not go out partying. This seemed to pay off as in his second game with the club, Ronaldo scored twice & got an assist in a 4-3 win & would score five more times that season. I should point out that even though Milan won that season's Champions League, Ronaldo did not play in any of those matches due to being cup tied. However heading into the 2007/08 season Ronaldo fell hard back into old habits (like partying & drinking) & arrived at preseason training camp 30 pounds overweight. Ancelotti was livid about this & told Ronaldo he would be benched until he lost 10 pounds. This was too low of a bar as his weight issues were a contributing factor in Ronaldo getting injured in February 2008 where he ruptured his kneecap. The injury basically ended Ronaldo's career in Europe as Milan released him at the end of the season & he would end his career back home in Brazil with Corinthians.

He ran a couple kickoffs back for TDs in his days w the Bengals

Ah, the Bungles era of Cincinnati (91-drafting Joe Burrow), always a source of amusement; though not to the degree of bashing the Jets. To be fair, Marvin Lewis did have playoff appearances; but no wins.

Jets played in 3 championship games since 98. And 2 were back to back.

About the BMI comparison, the only wide receivers listed by Stathead as having a BMI over 30 and a height of 6'0" or taller (excluding running backs and tight ends who lined up at receiver (or switched positions) or predate the official separation of wide receivers and tight ends from the general "end" position) are David Boston (who infamously used steroids) and Joe Reed (a wide receiver who was almost exclusively used on jet sweeps in his brief career with the 2020 Chargers). So the closest wide receivers to him (by height and weight) are a steroid abuser and a glorified running back.

He is a very successful high school football coach at Lincoln High, where I went to school. Marcus Allen and Terrell Davis went there too.

At 12:12 you mentioned James Francis while showing highlights of a Bengals game against the Cowboys. This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about how the Cowboys almost drafted Francis instead of Emmitt Smith in 1990.

All Dunn had to do was stay in decent shape and he would have a secure spot in Cincinnati. They gave him chance after chance. He thought it was a game and he messed around and found out.

6'3 240 isnt fat, I'm sorry. He probably isn't in football shape. Remember David Boston got to ripped to play wide receiver. football shape is different from being over weight. linemen always come in over weight also this happens all the time. We also dont know if Dunn was hitting the weights either.

Not to mention all the players who get arrested in the month or so of free time they have between OTAs and minicamp. And now the NFLPA wants to eliminate OTAs altogether, meaning players would have a whopping four months of free time to commit crimes.
