Hey everyone!
At the beginning of every season we all like to predict who will end up winning the major awards. The reigning MVP is the easiest player to name. The tough predictions are the players who come out of no where and take a huge step up from their previous season. In 2019, reigning MVP Christian Yelich faced off with up and coming outfielder Cody Bellinger for the entire season. Today, we are going to relive this MVP race.

@@LordWafflestomp I’m an Astros fan and oh mannnn was that painful. Down 0-2, comeback to clinch, then lose again. And right after the magical altuve walkoff, too, which made it seem like we had destiny on our side. Watching game seven with the lead for so long had to be the worst part - thinking greinke is going to get his first ring with a complete game or something to seal it. But nope. Then we got exposed for cheating! All around very great experience, would totally recommend to any baseball fan.

I've often thought if Yelich missed those games in April instead of September he would have won. Also the brewers probably would have beat Washington with his bat in the lineup, so not only did the knee cap injury alter the mvp race, it also changed the entire playoffs. Astros could have had two *'s in the bag.

Yelich has a decent start to 2022? He's hitting .180 and striking out over 33% of the time. Define decent because that is terrible in my book. Between the knee and the back he cant elevate the ball anymore. Never going to be the guy from 18/19 again. In fact the Brewers are killing the team by insisting on keeping him at 2/3 in the lineup. I assume the only thing keeping him in the lineup at all is his contract and the fact Mil has possibly the worst collection of OFs ever assembled. Sad because he was something special when he was healthy.

I wish these two didn't suffer a fall so hard, If Yelich right now as stands was what he was in 2018-2019 then the Milwaukee Brewers would be not overlooked any longer because of the rise of Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, and the additions of McCutchen, Adames, Wong, Renfroe, Boxburger, Tellez, Narváez, Lauer, Urias, over the last 3 years along with the new bullpen like Trevor Gott, Ashby, Cousins. They could possibly win the world series if they click at the right time or have a guy with 36-48+ Home Runs to add to the current lackluster offense alongside a top 2 pitching staff.

The fact that a 42 year old (probably 44) physically compromised Albert Pujols is more productive than these two guys kinda proves that a swing that pulls the bat head out of the zone isn't ideal.

I think both of these guys will be much better in 2023. Left handers have had it very very very hard since all teams have gone with the extreme shifts. It’s not as bad for right handers because shortstops can’t play 25 feet into the outfield and still throw the runner out at first . Next year when only two fielders are allowed on each side of the diamond and they aren’t allowed in the outfield grass it will raise their averages A LOT. They will stop trying to hit so many home runs because singles won’t require a lot of luck. The average batting average for left handed hitters should raise 40 points

Possibly. But it will definitely help left handers like Bellinger that maybe 2 hits a year by beating the shift while losing 15-20

3:28 half those players were playing the game juiced. The others were playing with the ball juiced…whether from the dead to live ball era or from MLB deciding that if they can’t juice players, they’d juice the ball. This great contact hitters are now great sluggers.

This video legitimately made me sad as a dodger fan bellinger was so amazing but injuries ruined his 2021 season same for yelich

I always tell younger people this, guys can be flashes in the pan have a few good seasons and then fall off whether it’s due to injury or lack of skill and that is what seemed to happen with both these players. Could they get back to where they were, sure but don’t be surprised if they don’t, they can still contribute and that’s what matters. People romanticize this game and it’s players and view them in certain light Edit: spelling

Had Yelich not gotten injured, he was a lock for the MVP. The defense didn’t matter at that point, it was the injury that was his undoing

Yelich would've won if he hadn't got hurt and I am a Dodger fan. I was scared for Belli and when Yelich got hurt I knew Belli would win

Dodgers have had horrendous luck with career altering injuries the last three years Bellinger, Muncy and now Buehler (2nd TJ is usually career altering). I can’t think of another team with more than one in that same time period. They also had a horrible one a decade ago with Kemp. Causing him to go from MVP to below average
