I have a neighbor who got a cat about a year-and-a-half ago. Her previous Kitty had lived to a ripe old age and passed away from complications due to a surgery. When the time came for her to consider getting another furry friend, she ended up choosing an absolutely gorgeous girl that had been at the shelter for quite a while, because even though she was very young ( she had only ever had a single litter of kittens as far as anyone knew) she was still technically an adult cat and most people who adopt are looking for kittens. If you ask my neighbor about it, and I agree, she'll describe it as meant to be. She was looking at photographs and profile of two or three kitties and kept going back to the specific one. From the moment she first held her oh, it was love. That kitty is so full of love, sweetness, and personality, we talk to this day about how amazing it is that nobody picked her in all that time. One of the very first things the new kitty did when she brought it home was to wander around for a bit and then go into the bedroom and lay down on the blanket where the other Kitty had always laid down, so it was considered a suitable passing of the torch. Gradually, the new kitty even adopted some of the same mannerisms as the old Kitty, so we like to jokingly talk about how maybe the new kitty's "older sister" is still around and taught her things. This cat really is remarkable. She loves being brushed, to the point where when my neighbor is brushing her hair in the morning or getting ready to go somewhere, the cat will climb in her lap, and climb on her shoulders until she gets some brushing too. My neighbor has chronic pain issues, and whenever she has her bad days, the kitty is always curled up in her lap purring Etc, trying to make her feel better. She understands a few basic words. She'll perk up when she hears the word treats, and she understands the word stay as long as it's my neighbor that says it so that she doesn't run out the door, although she's pretty good about that anyway it's only happened a couple times. We live in an apartment building in town, so we tend to be a little paranoid about her getting out. When I come to visit, she has a special walk that we call her happy prance, because she knows she has an extra person to pet her and play with her, and she goes out of her way to act even more cute. she'll even communicate with us in her own way, she's a very vocal Kitty but she's not loud. She'll meow, and if you meow back at her, she'll reply, and it'll happen several times in a row almost as if she's genuinely trying to have a conversation with you. Occasionally, if you ask her questions she'll meow with a specific tone almost as though she actually understood what you asked. I realize, I've rambled on forever, but I'm every bit in love with the kitty as my neighbor is, so when I get a chance to talk about her, I can't help it. I only wish we were allowed to post pictures. EDIT: and shame on me for forgetting oh, but she's absolutely fascinated by Simon's Cat. I've even gotten video of her watching the TV while we watch an episode of Simon, and when my neighbor and I watch it together, if the kitty is awake she'll go out of her way make sure she's where she can watch it too.

I lost my best friend a month ago, totally unexpectedly, at the age of 9, & I am truly heartbroken also, so I can well understand how you feel. Rafe was more than 'just a cat' & we were totally super glued to each other & our connection was exceptional. Last Sunday afternoon I was sitting on the bed reading with 3 of my other cats on the bed with me & the remaining cat on the living room windowsill. She's a very quiet cat & I've only ever heard tiny mews out of her. Whereas Rafe, the cat I lost, was a very vocal cat & would often come in from outside to look for me & if I was upstairs he would stand at the bottom & literally repeatedly YOWL loudly for me, before coming up the stairs to look for me. And, as I said, I was sitting quietly with my 3 cats when we ALL heard Rafe YOWL at the bottom of the stairs for me. My heart nearly jumped out of my throat! And, Lucas, who adored Rafe, literally leapt off the bed to go & find him. But, of course, he wasn't visible to him, or me, & we couldn't find him. Well, not in this dimension anyway. That he lives on is NEVER in ANY doubt to me, but hearing him & not being able to see him is in itself heartbreaking, while at the same time knowing he is still around, is also quite comforting. But, then, after thinking about it today ,I felt really upset because I knew he was looking for me, as he always did, & that I couldn't see him or give him a comforting hug, was heartbreaking to me in case he thought I was just ignoring him... & this just overwhelmed me this afternoon & I totally howled with grief over these issues & over his absence. Then... while sitting there sobbing, I felt him come to me as he used to do, by coming along the back of the couch & onto his usual place on my right shoulder... & my head & right shoulder were literally crawling with energy & it was so intense it felt like I'd been plugged into something that was both electrical & vibrating & I knew he'd heard my grief & was answering it by showing me that he was okay & that he was bringing me love & comfort as he had always done. So, after reading what your feelings of grief, I thought thought this might help. I've made copies & I send it to people who are grieving the loss of their pet & to tell them that they live on & they COME BACK! I apologise for the length of this, but I feel that it is all appropriate & of course you also have the option to not bother to read it if it becomes boring to you.... but I really hope it touches your heart & that it opens your heart to the prospect of your best friend coming home to you. So, with love & blessings read on: 'I know that you might think this is weird, but did you know that your beloved pets can be reborn wearing a new fur coat (or feathers) & come back to you? If a pet was loved & had a special bond with their owners, they will reincarnate & find you again. This is how they evolve. I'd already suspected as much when my first cat reappeared looking almost exactly the same & with the same mannerisms. But, this time she was black & before she was black & white; a Tuxedo cat. Since then, & many, many years down the line & with help from Higher Dimensional Guides & Angels, I have had this confirmed for me. I presently have 5 cats & they've all been with me before. And somehow they manage to find you. With my first cat, her new incarnation came to me in the form of a cat basket (from my cousin) with her cajoling me to give her a home, which I did. Another of my cats appeared as a kitten on the road outside my house & I had a 10 second window of opportunity to see him from my bedroom window, before he was mowed down by a car. The interesting thing here is that I had previously been living 100 miles away & had lost a young cat that I had really bonded with & I was grief stricken when he didn't come home one day. My guides showed me that he had been hit by a car. They did this by showing me a motorist in a stationary car watching a cat flying over his car & coming down in the field to the side of him. This meant that the driver had watched this cat 'pass over'. But, they then showed me that I would be having him back but in a place 100 miles away. This was a place I had once lived in but had no intention of returning to, (although my daughter was still living there). Then circumstances led me back to this area & it was there that I found this little cat again & with all the same characteristics. One of these was his liking to sit on my shoulder & he is actually sitting on my shoulder now. He's glued to it! I took another full grown & middle aged cat from my daughter as she was not getting on with her. So I decided to have her. She was a very neurotic, & anxious cat & easily spooked. Her name was Cleo, but every time I went to call her the name 'Betsy' came out. Over & over again this happened until I realised my old cat Betsy was back again! And Betsy had also been neurotic & anxious & would bite anyone who picked her up. But, with a lot of love & reassurance, she would let me pick her up & stroke her & she would be growing while still obviously enjoying the affection. Cleo was neurotic because she had been living with two people in a volatile relationship & been threatened & abused by the man. I hadn't recognised her as Betsy but my soul had! And like Betsy, all Cleo needed was a lot of love, patience & reassurance, along with some desensitising in certain areas of the house (like the corner by the door) & she is now a very happy & affectionate little cat. Although, even 8 years later, she still flinches if I go to pet her on the work surface in the kitchen. My guides told me she was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It's very sad as she's a sweet little thing when she's loved & looked after. Animals belong to a group soul & because of this our returning pets sometimes bring another pet or two in the same body! So you may find that your pet's characteristics remind you of more than one of your previous pets. So if you love your pets just ask if you can have them back, although I don't think you really have to ask. And, I think they will only come back if they were loved as yours were. So it's not goodbye, it's more like 'See you soon'! The timing can differer widely however depending on what they died from, I think it depends on & how much recuperation they need. One cat returned to me after around 6 weeks, whereas another took a couple of years. And, what I have found is that they somehow find you rather than the other way round. So, going out & getting a new pet immediately may mean your previous pet will either have to wait for you to give them another opportunity. So you could end up with 2 dogs, cats or rabbits etc. But that's no bad thing is it? So, it's 'Au Revoir' not Goodbye :) )(Oh & pay attention to your dreams! You also have a guide you know, we all do, so why not ask that they make themselves known to you??) *hugs*

This is almost exactly how I got my first cat. She was the only older cat in amongst all the kittens and she was perched in the window on her little cat couch, I was told that she was very possessive of that couch. She didn't seem to care when I walked up to the window, typical cat, but as I walked past she jumped down and followed me. Ended up playing with her through the bottom of the door into the cat room while my ex went to get someone for me. By the time she got back I'd already fallen in love and despite not having my apartment ready (needed to cat-proof it) I knew I had to take her home. My ex offered to care for her until my apt was ready and a couple of days later I brought her to her forever home. Many good memories and I miss her every day. It was proof that its not always us who adopt our furry family members.

I have 8 cats and every one of them picked me. One showed up at my back door as an adult and just waltzed in, following one of my other cats inside. The rest either showed up at my house as kittens or I found them in the street. Almost passed one up driving by but realized he would have starved or gotten run over if I didn't go get him. Never regretted taking them all home. Better to make an effort than wake up 3am with guilt.

I always wondered where Simon got the star of the show. My second cat was one that no one wanted, she was at several "shelters" and wasn't friendly, but she won my heart. It took a year before "Butter" jumped on the couch and sat next to me and that was fine, she needed a home and lots of love. She passed away a year ago at the ripe old age of maybe 18. She will be missed. Thank you so much for bringing laughter and joy to us during the pandemic and here in the US lock down.

When we adopted my Rowdy boy, he was in one of those pens too, though he actually tried breaking down the door to get to us. Volunteers said he'd been there about 4 months, longer than many others, and he'd never reacted like that to anyone else. He had a booboo that was healing, which was part of why no one else wanted him. But we could see his playful side, and knew he was meant for us. Brought him home that day.

LOVE this! The cat love of my life had been cowering in the back of his cage at the shelter for eight months, overlooked for all of the friendlier cats. I volunteered at the shelter for a few weeks, and during that time he slowly warmed up to me until he was letting me pet him freely and purring like crazy every time I did. The lady who ran the shelter said he had only let her and one other volunteer touch him the entire time he'd been there. So of course I adopted him. I had him for ten years before he crossed the rainbow bridge. Taking a chance on a cat that no one else wanted was one of the best decisions of my life, and going forward I will always look first to the "unadoptable" cats, because they deserve homes, too.

This is wonderful. I love how there is this magical connection and bond we as humans can form with some animals. Simon was instantly drawn to this baby cat's independence and disinterest in "being cute" to attract attention. Simon's cat doesn't care about "being cute", he has his own ideas in mind. Also, I love how baby Simon's Cat is basically just a miniature version of himself.

My cat showed no regard, as he sat chewing through the rigging of a two masted pilot boat I had built. I stood there utterly helpless. If I had screamed or rushed him, he would have jumped knocking it off the shelf and causing even more damage. Emailed the model company, explained what happened. Asked if they could send me rigging plans, deadeyes and rigging line and what the charge would be. They sent the material at no charge. Said that I wasn't the first and were happy to help. Good people. So yes, they are doomed to some form of damage. Put 'em under glass. That's what I ended up doing.

When I worked at the shelter we had an aggression case come it. The cat had been trapped, we were convinced it was feral. So he got a big red tag and we were just waiting the 3 days to put it down. The next day this little old lady comes in and says "I believe you have my cat", it was psycho. And he turned into a purring cuddle machine in her arms. I still wouldnt reach for him though.

Live traps can be very scary for the animal. I've caught cats who were cuddle bugs as soon as they had time to recover from the scare of the trap, when they initially threw themselves around the inside of the trap and hissed at everyone out of sheer terror.

There's a cat in our garden that we think is a stray (or at least nobody has owned up to him in the four or so years he's been about). I've been trying to trap him this past week because I can see he's not well and I don't think he's got anyone caring for him (unfortunately he's been in the trap twice and stolen the food without setting it off... he's not daft). I'm happy to let him go again and feed him but I'm worried about what the vets are going to say and where to go from there if he's not healthy because he's not too friendly either. I've found a place that "might" be able to take him in if necessary but even then I'm worried about his future because he's not feral but also not going to be a house cat. I have a feeling that if he does get caught in the trap he's going to go absolutely crazy. I feel so bad for him.

Not too much on the verge. :) I spent my mid 20's to mid 30's taking care of a feral colony with 46 cats in it. Of course having them all spayed/neutered as I could meant slowly I had less and less... by 40 YO I had only 7 left (found quite a few new homes also) and I kept those 7 the rest of their lives... went catless for a short time but then other cats found me and I took care of them. Now I have 5 (on the verge of 48yo) in all but helping with another as my neighbor (a dog person) recently was adopted by a somewhat feral cat. ;)

Beautiful to see people promoting the adoption of the "unwanted" animals from a shelter. These animals are more often than not put down if they cannot find a good home. Good work, Simon! Last year I adopted my own little trouble maker, and while he wasn't unadoptable at the time being only 10 weeks old, a less patient owner would have promptly brought him back to the shelter as he's grown to be hyper, destructive and completely uncontrollable. But he's also such a friendly, snuggly fuzz potato I couldn't dream of letting him go, especially knowing he'd be hard to adopt out again.

This feral kitten has no eye and need your help. Both of her paws are purulent because she wipes her eyes with them. :( When we came to feed her she was very careful. When we took out the food she quickly relaxed and came very close to us. She is very cute but without one eye she looks like a sailor cat. It is very difficult to watch her with this injury. Her mother, who was standing in the back, came quickly. But she hesitated for a long time to come. After that, she approached slowly because she had to see what was happening there. Classic cat curiosity. :) A real comedy begins with her. At some point she started biting my fingers because he couldn’t recognize what was food and what was a finger. She hissed at me even though she was looking for food at the same time. :) But after all cat has an innocent baby face. :) A little brother also appeared who even let me cuddle him. IF YOU WANT SEE HOW WE FED THESE CATS, CHECK OUR CHANNEL
