    In my experience, people seem to complain about anything new to the franchise. There was backlash to Next Gen when it first came out, people saying it was an insult to the spirit of the original series and all that. Then again with Deep Space Nine, with people complaining that Star Trek is about a ship exploring the unknown, not sitting around on a space station. Then again with Voyager and again with Enterprise, in fact Enterprise was the most hated of the franchise before Discovery came out.

    @@Tayvin4042 Fandoms of large franchises tend to spawn a lot of people like that. Saw the exact same pattern in Star Wars. Everyone kept bitching about the Prequels, Clone Wars and Lucas personally. Now those are revered as almost sacred and every other clickbait article is all like "Lucas is going to erase the sequels and save the franchise!". The Mandalorian is the only thing that sort of breaks that pattern and even then a few of the most hardheaded ones creep out.

    It did manage to get a fourth season because of fan's loud objection to rumor's season three would be it's last. I really thought it was getting into it's own by season three and four. Character development was really good, they all had gone through a ton together by that point in the show. Hoshi wasn't afraid of everything and T'Pol really showed how Vulcans emotions are just under their skin at times. Where some have an easier time of controlling their emotions while others find it more challenging. Plus missions that started to define what the federation would soon be, with hard choices to be made.

    @@marcusdamberger I think they went a little overboard with the temporal war storyline but I think they did an excellent job of keeping with treks setting and ideals while giving it a whole new lick of paint. I think in general the trek franchise was starting to fatigue a bit, you had TNG,VOY,DS9 AND ENT, 25 seasons of trek in 15 years. Its such a shame that the finale of ENT got hijacked and was shoehorned into being another TNG finale.

    Since "Enterprise" was the closest to our level of humanity, it is easy to identify with it. It is what I can have hope with, that we can develop our future towards. The last couple of decades we had lost our way, but hopefully now we are back on track, With all the money we have spent on waging wars, that can go a long ways to what we really need to do.

    You know, the more I see of Discovery, the more I like Enterprise and can forgive it's flaws. Discovery's flaws are so glaring, so "in your face" that the slip-ups and sometimes bad acting of the older series seems endearing by comparison. And people talk about stiff acting in the earlier seasons....I think the actors time to get to know one another and the crew's time to learn how to work together mirror each other in a lot of shows like this....when you first start working with a new team at a new job, it's usually a matter of time before you can loosen up and get to know one another. Another thing missing from STD....I see no character growth, no progression, no crew dynamics being presented on the screen. It's the same yelling at everybody method of acting that we saw in the first episode until the latest one. I also think they pulled off the "pre-TOS" era and feel a lot better than Discovery ever will. New looking enough to not be silly to viewers of the early 2000s, but with that old "dials and levers" feel the original Enterprise did. The sounds remind you of Kirk's bridge, as do the instrument panels, while still being clear this is a bit less advanced than the 1701. IMO they screwed up a little giving them phasers and photon torpedos so early on, and used the transporter a bit too liberally as a plot device to get out of tight scrapes (would have loved to see the drama behind lasers and having to figure out how to dock or get a shuttle to places instead of beaming people up in the nick of time like all the other shows did), but less so than STD does.

  • @macleunin

    @macleunin

    5 жыл бұрын

    compmanio36 well said. About the use of new technologies, I think they did it in the right pace, in the beginning they were all afraid of the transporter, and there was an episode where some of them were stranded on an asteroid and the others tried to rescue them using shuttles and ropes, being to proud and stubborn to accept help from the Vulcans with their tractor beam.

    I haven't even been able to watch "Discovery" yet and I'm not sure I'll ever get around to it, mainly because I'm happier watching "Enterprise"' on Hulu. Looking for "Endeavour", only see a trailer though. Actually like "Enterprise more than "DS9". T'Pol almost reminds me of Lt. Saavik1 in some ways. Just my opinion, but why not name it "Endeavour" as T'Pol would be Captain by that time and that would be her ship. Reed would have his own ship by then and Archer would be an Admiral. Trip would be alive as Philip Collier and go back to Trip as in "' Rise of the Federation" books. On the other hand, "The Good That Men Do" (?) might make a good movie, but I can't find the book yet to read it.

    Dennis McCarthy‘s themes is what makes this show for me, that’s in addition to Brian Tyler‘s score for the episode regeneration. The show itself started to get really good by the time we got to season three, I really got into it. I still feel robbed to this day at nearly 38 (time of writing), that we never got a proper conclusion for the “first” crew of the enterprise.

    I wish they'd do a special where Archer's Dad appears on the ship, claiming Cochrane had sent him forward in time with one message "There's still a way to save Trip." Turns out Henry Archer was the "future man", the unseen hand guiding his son throughout the stars. Turns out the Trip that got killed was an advanced xindi clone, based off the origional clone.

    For me, it was "DS9". Thought "Enterprise" was a continuation of it, but one day-on Hulu-I watched "Enterprise" again-and fell in love with it. My dad would've liked it too. Being a fan of Spock and Saavik helped me like T'Pol, especially watching her develop into a more likeable character-not just because of her vulnerabilities, but how she overcame them with- out going back to what she was.

    Wish I would have given this show a chance back then. After the 3rd episode I couldn't take it anymore. When the 3rd and 4th season began it started taking shape and it felt like star trek, I only know this because in my adult years I've gone back and rewatched it and I come to realize it was a good show it just needed more time to develop unlike next gen or ds9. I keep hoping discovery will find it's way but it's not looking good, I watched both seasons as it aired I tried to learn from my mistake as a child but Alex Kurtzman is failing across the board. I need him to do better with the show in the 3rd season please.

    The first season of ST:TNG was so 80's and Rodenberry influenced. ( classic being frozen humans they find from the 20th century, they all had 80's concerns, issues) He was a stickler for no conflict among the characters; that we had somehow grown beyond that aspect of humanity, made it somewhat boring. Humans aren't perfect in any time. Starting with season 2 you can tell Rodenberry is less involved, character development begins in earnest.

    Yes, but actually i think they found their characters faster than most other series did. TNG is often cringeworthy way into the second, sometimes third season. Shame Enterprise did not get a chance to really develop for some more seasons. it was really promising and strong in the late episodes.

    Does Scott work with autistic children or teens? Some of his methods with T'Pol-when she becomes unsettled (whether due to the Pa''nar Syndrome or Terellium ore) remind me of the ones teachers I worked with at a school used with kids with autism. Some worked, some didn't. While she wasn't autistic, I felt he knew how to help her focus on her job and didn't force her to join a huge crowd of people at the stadium, yet encouraged her to watch the movies on movie nights with a smaller crowd. He might never have held her shoulders, much less hugged her at first, but he knew what she later accepted.

    @CogitoErgoCogitoSum I agree and also he wants to give the best impression possible to T'Pol because he knows she'll spit on him to the High Command if he screws up. So he's less casual than he normally would. Plus this is the first long range mission ever, he is under a lot of pressure. After all he wasn't Starfleet's first choice, AJ Robinson was a strong competitor. As a matter of fact, the idea to take a Vulcan as an officer comes from him.
