The Beauty of the Cross - Bill Johnson Full Sermon | Bethel Church

In this full sermon, Bill Johnson talks about the beauty of the Cross and what it means for us in our Christian life. The Cross reminds us of the victory we have in Christ, but also the call to lay our lives down, taking up our own cross and surrendering our desires. God wants to bless us more than we can ask or imagine, but our desire for Him and His Kingdom must come first.
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25 NKJV

Thank you for teaching the whole gospel. The appealing parts and the hard parts; the ones that seem unappealing at the time, but are the ones that can bring us more and more into the image of Christ. You do that so incredibly well. 💝

Regarding the death of Jesus on the cross. Bill Johnson said “Jesus couldn’t resurrect himself” Jesus said in John 10:18 “ no one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” It seems Jesus says himself that He has authority for taking up His life again. The purpose of the cross was to pay for the sins of those who place their faith in Christ.

So is he saying Jesus is not God? Because He is, Jesus himself claimed this many times in scripture, not to mention that we know that the trinity is 3 in one so Jesus is God as is the Holy Spirit. Also, very confusing because then he said that the believer is the one who resurrects him, he didn’t say God did.. ? John 10:30, John 1:18, john1:1, John 10:17-18

@@bethanybuse4532No he is not saying Jesus is not God. Please don’t misunderstand and confuse this. A lot of people miss this. Jesus was God, eternally, never stopped being God ever. Never took on godhood or anything like that. That’s an ancient heresy which Bill and Bethel do not teach. Regarding your question, what Bill is saying is that Jesus lived as a man, meaning that he functioned as a man who was yielded to the Father. He lived out the days of his flesh as a believer. Yes he was God and messiah, and his message and ministry pointed people to that fact. But the way in which he operated was as a man who was reliant upon the grace of God and not with the special advantages of being God. Hence why he calls us to follow him. The answer to your resurrection question is that the Father raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus went to the cross with the faith which the Father supplied believing that he would raise him from the dead. The point is that Jesus is modeling a life of grace through faith and not self-reliant works of power. Much like how it says in Hebrews 11 how Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac believing that God would raise his son from the dead, so did Jesus go to the cross believing that his Father would raise him after three days being in the grave. The Father, figuratively speaking, (Bill is speaking figuratively here), was the believer who raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus was the believer who raised Lazarus from the grave. The Father was the “believer” who raised Jesus from the dead.

@@camgalloway691 thanks for your response, and we certainly don’t have to go back and forth with this.. it just sounds like when we say things like Jesus “believed” that God would raise Him from the dead that Jesus was not in fact truly man and truly God while He was here on earth. It sounds like we are making Him more man than God which is not the case. Yes He willingly gave up of His glory by taking the body of a man but He was still truly God. So Jesus would not need to “believe” anything because He is all knowing, He knew what was needed to be done for our sins and He willingly laid down His life for us but He also knew that He would be and had to be raised again in order to save us, without His resurrection His dying alone would not save us. He had to conquer death. Maybe the wording “believe” is just what is throwing me off and sounds like we are belittling who Jesus is even in His earthly form. Abraham was a full man so he had to “believe” that God would raise issac or that he would do something to still fulfill His promise through Isaac. Just not sure why we compare Jesus to an actual fallen man. Gods word is clear that the Trinity all played a role is Jesus’s resurrection as they can not act inseparable. John 2:19-21 John 10:18 Rom 8:11 Gal 1:1 1 Pet 3:18b Anyway thank you for your time. ❤️

But Jesus said Himself this… 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. (John 2:19, NASB) So who is right? Jesus or Bill?

Amen! This type of theology that makes Jesus the same as us and us able to be Jesus is just crushing law. I have to surrender, I have to give and give up snd seek...a whole sermon on the cross without preaching the gospel. CHRIST did all that perfectly for me and through Him and His Spirit I can die to self become new every day. Really sad!
