I notice how the movie begins with Said opening his eyes as to suggest that he sees and chooses to be part of this world of hate and in the end when he closes his eyes you can ''see'' the sheer terror he feels and the consequences of opening his eyes onto this cruel world.

The way I see it, it's a loop. When Said closes his eyes at the end, if you replay the movie, he'll open them in the beginning. I think it's like an inescapable cycle of violence, that will repeat forever

last night there was a one-off screening in a theatre here in Sydney and it was absolutely packed out, not one seat left. I pulled in as many of my friends to see it as I could. this movie is timeless.
1:00 THIS, sir, right here is the most amazing shot. Firstly, awesome technique which incorporates both lensing change and focus pull(I may be wrong in the terminology of this) simultaneously. And, this is masterful way to present its important theme; Existential insignificance. It was literally like picking these three people out of the meaningless chaos of the place and using them as representations. Now, this is what you call smart film making.

@Art8eat
3 жыл бұрын
@@clkgtr12 Change of perspective. The first half is shot on short focal lenses, the characters are in their home paris suburb projects and this choice of lenses makes them fit in the frame visually. In the middle of the movies they go in downtown paris, after the dolly zoom, the director shot them in long focal lens, which isolate them in the frame creating blur in the background thus illustrating the fact they dont belong in those rich neighborhoods.

Saw this for the first time ever today. Such a beautiful movie. As an American who loves hood movies i can say this is by far the best one I’ve ever seen. 10/10
The beauty in this film is (among many other facets) in its grainy black-and-white cinematography as well as its depiction of a darker, grittier Paris. I saw "La Haine" for the first time five years ago and it shook me to my core in the best possible way. I'd never seen anything like it and I truly haven't seen anything like it since. I loved Mathieu Kassovitz the actor when he starred opposite Audrey Tautou in "Amélie," but Mathieu Kassovitz the director is an entirely different beast altogether. Extraordinary film made exceptionally well.
You just gotta love how the director starts and ends the movie with Sayed shutting his eyes. Fuckin brilliant movie.
The best "hood" movie ever. Do Americans even know about this movie in general?

Very nice work.Please do a video on PRIMER!
Easily in my top three movies of all time, there's nothing like it. A lot, A LOT of movies have been made to try to depict these kinds of characters, living these kinds of lives, few movies have captured it so well.
Random question, dear The Beauty Of, but would you mind doing "The Beauty of 'Sauvage'"? My reason for bringing it up here is because I often watch it in tandem with "La Haine" because, to me, they show a darker, grittier side of French urban life, one that we don't often get to see. That being said, "La Haine" is truly exceptional and remains one of my favorite films of all time.
Vinz Shadow boxing in front of the screens is an incredible shot, unlucky to miss out
