Tara Browne is such an intriguing character. He would have been proud to know his death inspired one of the greatest songs in Rock and Roll history.

If you watch the Beatles "Paperback writer" video here on KZread, you'll notice that Paul McCartney has a chipped tooth. The story goes (Paul's own words) is Paul and Tara Browne were riding mopeds one evening in 66' and Paul crashed, busted his lip and chipped his tooth. Interesting story, Paul was good friends with Tara.

@@arlenmargolin1650 Regardless, the song is about everyone`s everyday life. Beatles never seemed to produce a song with just one meaning in it. All musicians are told to redo a song to make it appeal to as many people as possible so that it will sell to as many people as it can and make a lot of money. Kind cheapens the whole process. I have no idea if the Beatles did this or whether they were more about creating works of art. Id like to think it`s about the art.

  • @swissuz

    5 жыл бұрын

Yes....in the picture with Paul....is his brother Michael McCartney aka McGear. Paul was a bit older, but still good friends with Tara. One year before Tara's death, Tara was in Liverpool with Paul and Mike on Dec 30th 1965. Paul hired two Mopeds and he and Tara were out riding around Liverpool. They went around a corner and Paul was taking it a bit too low and smacked his face into the brick. Good thin Mopeds didn't go too fast. His upper left front tooth broke and went through his lip. He was banged up a bit and scratched his face up. His brother took a picture of him. He not only had a broken tooth, but had to get stitches inside his upper lip with not anesthesia. Tough guys from Liverpool. His broken tooth shows up in the promo for "Rain" and "Paperback Writer". if you google images of Paul, you can find one that shows his fat lip and scraped up face.

@William White That photo was taken the morning after a fire at the Guinness Estate, (Luggala, Ireland) in 1956 I think it was. (I read the book). They saved what they could then rebuilt and restored the house. And the contents were worth saving by the way - an auction of some of its contents recently, saw a Lucien Freud sketch of Tara's brother Garech as a boy sell for almost 7 million. It hung beside the fireplace in the drawing room for decades.

I'm not going to dispute anything McCartney said, but there is an article in the paper about John and Paul working on A Day in the Life in January. Not sure they had named it yet. But the accident killing Tara, a close mate to Paul, is in the Guardian in Dec 66, You can make your own conclusion. John actually wrote the part about reading the news.....Paul wrote the middle that he also sings....and back to John at the end. Paul wrote a lot of the score.

I think the Beatles did not want people seeing only one interpretation of any of their songs. They wanted the lyrics to have different meanings to different people. They denied a number of things that later turned out to be true.
