Just trying to imagine what it is like if you knew Beatles back then when they were just getting popular as a local band having no idea what they would go on to become. I guess you would feel like you were part of history and witnessing history being made. To know them just as 4 kids jamming in a dark sweaty basement to what they became. Amazing. And imagine hearing their originals before they even had airplay.

I've been lucky to have visited the Cavern a couple of times. It's got a great vibe. My sister's late husband was a student on Liverpool from 1959 to 1962 and was a regular visitor to the venue and saw the Beatles many, many times. To say I was jealous is an understatement 😁

Just so people know, that Ringo made his first appearance at the cavern with the beatles. It wasn't the first time he'd actually played with them, he'd performed many times as a stand in during their earlier hamburg day's, when Pete best failed to turn up or had been sick, and these shows went very well, but Ringo was in another band at the time, the other band was very popular so Ringo wasn't going to leave them to join the beatles. Even if he'd been asked at the time..

I’ve been watching KZread videos of a fantastic Beatles cover band (The MonaLisa Twins) that held a two year residency there until a couple years ago. It may be a recreation, but it seems to be good enough to keep the history and music alive.

@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 Yep. I think though, that kind of lunacy is even more prevalent today because of the music industries greed for the Almighty Dollar causing them to choose only tried and true music styles that they think will sell the most. It kills innovation and leads to formulaic music writing.

Actually, from comparing the photos of then and now, the current Cavern is next to where the original one stood. It was the 'new' Cavern, which opened in 1973 and would be later renamed Eric's, that was opposite of the original Cavern.

Sad. I've seen so many cherished places go down without a thought. The bright side is good Art and Literature survive. Our Ancestors couldn't pick up a device and watch an Orchestra play Hindemith's Mathis Der Maler, or lie back and listen to Dickens, so at least some things are getting better all the time.

But, i mean, it's not even the same place. Not to be a hater, but, it's not even the same original place, so, how can the newer one be "historic"? For example, neither John Lennon or Brian Epstein were never there. (It's a genuine question, I just don't understand).

This video fails to explain that the original Cavern Club no longer exists. You cannot go see the club or the stage where the Beatles played; they no longer exist. It was converted into a car park in 1973. Why doesn't the video tell us this? Who gives a damn about the other clubs opened across the street, whether named "Cavern" or not? Thumb DOWN.
