Yes, it's SO good. John with his bitter, sarcastic "what did we do that was wrong..." etc. Doesn't get better.

This song is 57 years old and every time, I almost cry. (I'm a guy who doesn't admit to emotional moments) But, I truly believe that The Beatles came from another Planet, to entertain us. They were that extraordinary.

Led Zeppelin is phenomenal I listened to both of their discography’s. Zeppelin doesn’t have one bad song because their instrumentals are always great. The Beatles rely on melodies which doesn’t always work but mostly everything from rubber soul on is great.

Paul narrating the story is flawless. John's vocal in the chorus is very haunting, gives me goose bumps everytime! The Beatles... the GOAT!

The compositions of Lennon and McCartney have always had a major impact on my life. Pure genius......

I'm a composer myself, and let me suggest: "I wasn't really here while listening to this song" is about the strongest, best thing a composer can hear. A composer - or a painter, or a filmmaker, or a sculptor, or a playwright-we all want the same thing from our art. We want to move you. If we've moved you enough that you "aren't really here," that's really the goal. Thank you for taking the ride with us all.

I'm 47 years old. Loved the Beatles all my life but I realise I need to listen all over again.

The producer, George Martin, had a teen daughter at the time. He broke down and cried during the mixing this of song.

Not only "timeless" but also culturally neutral.

The song was released at a time when it was common for children to be ignored much more than in the present (at least in American and related cultures). This was true of my family and those of many of my friends and classmates. The meaning of the song to us at the time hinged on the verse: She's leaving home after living *alone* for so many years. The accusation was so cleverly hidden in the rhythm of the verse, but we all got it.

Children have been ignored forever, mostly. What a difference it makes simply by talking to your kids instead of yelling at them. When I was young children were to" be seen and not heard" in my house and school. That doesn't do much good for a kids emotional needs. I'm glad to see the younger generations raising their kids as people to be respected for their feelings.

This is one song - like many other Beatles’s song - you just cannot describe with words. You only can feel with your emotions. Watching this video I went in the edge of crying, and I’ve heard it more than thousand times. This guys are really beings of light - they came to this planet to inspire us to be more loving and sensitive creatures.

this is how I felt when I listened to Sgt Peppers for the first time. I literally could not find words to describe my reaction! It seemed more like a work of art than music!

To think that in a period of social revolutions happening around, people in their 20s would write a song about a girl running away from home including both points of view. It's just amazing.

I'm 46, I heard this song when I was in my teens (parents were huge Beatles fans) and I remember identifying with the girl and thinking the parents in the song to be self-absorbed and smothering. Now, my girls are emerging into adulthood and will soon be on their own..."Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly, how could she do this to me?"

My favorite part is when Lennon, as the parents, sings, " Fun is the one thing that money can't buy. " And in the last two words, he sings, " Bye, bye. " The use of homophones! No other group in history has the width and depth of songwriting the Beatles accomplished. Their music will be rediscovered for decades by discerning listeners. Brilliant!

Whereas the Lennon/McCartney compositions both channeled and reflected the youth culture in the 60's, Dylan's writing tended to be more like wandering inside someone else's dreams. Equally compelling but different in approach, unique and wonderful in their own ways... wouldn't want to be without either of them. That being said, there were exceptions where they would switch places.

Sad, sad song. A song about the parents not understanding their daughter gets me everytime.

Did you see how wrapped up you got in the lyrics??? The Beatles were MASTER SONGWRITERS!!!!

Her saying, "this is good music".... says everything.

It's so beautiful to see The Beatles music is still moving people to this day 50 something years later. I still believe they were divine intervention there's no other explanation for it.

This song came out in 1967 when I was in high school… It touched me so deeply that when I graduated and got my first job at 18, I sat down with my parents and asked them about my moving to my first apartment… ❤️

Masterpiece, Paul’s vocals and John’s hauntingly awesome back ups, my, my, my.

God damn it, this song breaks me up every time I hear it. I love the way Paul brings to life the very secret and hidden dilemma of a child drowned in old time attitudes and unable to enjoy the normal happiness of an 18 year old girl. You go girl and get together with that motor mechanic, God knows all of us wants you to.....

Greatness never gets old. This is a masterpiece for generations to come. Long after im gone this will never grow old. Just simply amazing. ✌️👍🕊️

Paul took this from a newspaper article and turned it into poetry, then a beautiful song. Isn't it wonderful?

Some years later, he discovered that he'd actually met the girl in an episode, some years before, of 'Ready Steady Go', in which he'd judged a miming competition. The girl he chose as the winner turned out to be the girl in the song.

I left home to live with my girlfriend whilst still in our teens. My father insisted it was just 'Puppy love', and he truly thought I was just infatuated with her, and that it would not last. It was coming from a place of caring, I guess, and he probably wondered what they had done wrong that I should so desperately want to leave home. We lived at opposite sides of the city and I didn't have a car, couldn't afford taxi's, so after a night out dancing into the early morning I would walk her home to her parents, and then the long walk back alone to my own. During the winter months it was tough, but I was still on 'Cloud 9' and didn't care, she was worth it. Often it would be 3am before I got to bed, and sometimes my parents had stayed awake, worried until I was home (no mobile phones in those days), but I just didn't see what they were worried about. I just wanted to spend my days with the one I loved, and escape the dreary depressing city I had been brought up in. We moved out and lived together for 5 years, which my father strongly disapproved of, and he said things about her that I never really forgave him for. We did struggle financially while I was at College, but he wouldn't help us if we needed it. Then we got married and he was okay after that. We have now been happily married for 4 decades. Before he died my father did say to me just once, that I had done well, and my wife had become like a second daughter to him.

And that, to me, is what the song is about. The emotions on both sides of growing up and leaving home. Congratulations on your 4 decades… I think working together during rough times made you stronger as a couple. I married a girl from another country. My mother said she would get pregnant and take my child far away from me. We’ve been together for 26 years now and married 25. Interestingly enough, we couldn’t have children. Looking back on my mother’s remarks are a bit painful sometimes… but parents usually are just desperately trying to look after your best interests and sometimes say things that they shouldn’t. It’s life.

(I speak spanish). 'She's leaving Home' was inspired in *MELANIE COE* ,she was 17 years old in 1967.Melanie ran away home. In youtube there are several videos about her. She say many things about this song by Paul McCartney. Really Paul McCartney know her in 1963, when Melanie Coe was 13 years old in TV Show.Mccartney presented her with an autographed Beatles Album.

He was quite the song writing machine at that time. His output the next year in 1968 was simply stupendous. It's a terrible shame the last time all four of them were in the same room together was August 1969. Money, and Allan Klein. 100% we can blame him and nobody else. That's why it's so frustrating for me the Phil Spector "Let It Be" mess happened chronologically after Abbey Road. That album (Abbey Road) should have been their last album. There's a reason why the last song was called The End.

This is one of those songs from their catalogue that didn't seem to make a big impression back when it was new, but today is considered among their best. I would also include "When I'm Sixty Four", and "Hey Bulldog" in that group.

The last time my wife and I saw Paul in concert he performed this. It was incredibly moving to hear it done live, and was so unexpected. Probably the only performer we’ve seen live three different times over the years, and we could still walk away saying “Gee, wish he’d have played XXXXXX”. Between his Beatles, Wings, and solo work he just has so many great tunes you can never hear everything in one concert. (or three...lol)

Not only is it an emotional song,(written by a person in their 20's, no less), but from a songwriting perspective, the composition and instrumentation is just amazing...

You have to bear in mind that when this was written, young women traditionally, didn't leave home until they married. The 60s and the pill changed all of that and women were liberated from their parents' old fashioned way of life. The Beatles always knew what they were doing. My daughter is 28 and is a beautiful wondrous young woman. She hasn't left home yet as I have been very ill and she won't go until I am well enough. When she does, as she has every right to do, and I want her to, I will still be heartsick and no doubt, as for most things in my life, a Beatles song will be playing inside me. And it will be this.

She had to do what she had to do. This is one of the best reactions I've seen. Ever.

Any that, everybody, is the power of the Beatles…….brilliant, timeless and still relevant.

I have been listening to "She's Leaving Home for 54 years, since I was 20 year old when Sgt. Pepper came out, and EVERYTIME I hear until this day, it ALWAYS makes me cry.

That is magical songwriting and composition.

Melanie Coe, who's newspaper story inspired Paul's song, said, "I wanted excitement and affection. My mother wasn't affectionate at all, she never kissed me". Her parents had even bought her a car, which she left behind when she ran away. Her father was quoted as saying, "I cannot imagine why she should run away. She has everything here. She is very keen on clothes but she left them all, even her fur coat!"

Every 3rd week of August, someone’s little girl leaves for college or to find themselves or leaves for boot camp and this is how EVERY PARENT FEELS about the fact their little bunny is all grown up.

I always have loved the orchestra that backs up Paul's voice. Especially the cello.

The mothers lack of awareness....expecting they know what their daughter needs and wants...and their ignorance of how she really feels...all about them and their pain. A lesson for any parent. Perfection personified. AND...No needless 'middle Eight'! This song takes on a new meaning to me as my two boys recently moved out and on there own. As a child, I would listen to it and try to pick a side. Now I listen to it and realize there are no sides, only love, pain, and beauty.

I feel is referring to how she felt alone because her parents didn't show her love..they only gave her material things but all she needed more than anything was their love. The Beatles were great at making you feel every bit of the song. I love seeing reactions of young people that are hearing their songs for the first time. The Beatles are one of those bands that are able to span multiple generations.

Sad song about parent/child differing perspectives. So beautifully expressed by the best band ever.

The 60s were a cultural watershed. This hauntingly beautiful song/poem captures the gulf that has perpetually existed between generations. Prior to this time boys(men) would set out to make their path in life but it was much more difficult for girls(women) to do so. We are reminded of the sadness, often coupled with confusion, that is part of this new world. Paul, in writing this, acknowledged the changing times. A beautiful and brilliant song.

The beauty of a great song is that it is timeless. This is a tale every generation must face: Leaving home and breaking the ties to the past in order to grow up. Paul (as the narrator) and John (as the parents) are perfect. I hopes kids listen to this a hundred years from now. It's already been fifty!

Why is it that so many Beatles songs make you cry .. They evoke so many emotions...

Great George Martin production, great songwriting and singing, String platers from Halle or LSO arranged by a top arranger. Recorded at Abbey road Studios on the amazing Redd consol and using the wonderful modified EQ boxes for such beautiful tone. Yes it's about all that and paying respect to part of our musical heritage. I thought I'd mention those incidental details whilst not wishing to detract from the added value of your lovely fascial expressions and fluttering eyelashes; overall thanks for whichever nail bar you used.

I was 11 years old when this was released. I cried so many times after listening to this one.

Just one of the reasons that Sgt Pepper's is constantly voted one of the best albums of all time. Created by two of the best song writers ever, and one of the best producers to ever make a record. The incrdible George Martin turned Lennon and McCartney's songs into works of art. Watching you made me cry. Incredible.

Like "A Day in the Life", the story of "She's Leaving Home" was based on a newspaper page that talks about a girl who ran away from home at that time. Her name was Melanie Coe. It really is a very beautiful and emotional song.

I have listened to this song 99+ times and this was great to listen to THIS time in particular == thanks for that. FWIW, back when this was written in the 60's -- this was a common occurence , certainly in USA and presumably UK - teenagers splitting away from their parents and home life. **** ONE of the saddest lines ever in the history of music: 'She breaks down and cries to her husband "Daddy our baby's gone"

Poor girl was really put through the ringer. That’s the power of their songwriting; even after all this time.

The Beatles so creative and every album was a welcome to another great creation. They never stood still they had to progress or break up. I'd bet she told them a million times why she had to go on with her life and it would still include them. They sound like angry people but they are sad as we are and probably will never understand.

The key line is repeated. Though she's leaving her parents house, "she's leaving home after living ALONE for so many years." I think they were emotionally closed off. "We gave her everything money can buy." "She's having fun. " "Fun is the one thing money can't buy." And the earlier line, "...she is free."

What I love about the song is the ambiguity of it. You are meant to feel for both sides. As another commenter points out, Paul was 24 when this song came out. This song , along with Eleanor Rigby, shows how aware he was of the world around him. It was remarkable how well he could put himself in their shoes, to feel the loneliness of age and the bewilderment of parents when a child leaves home. Your reaction was just lovely.

I recall a special from the 80s on the anniversary of this album, and prestigious university music professors said this was the most musically perfect song- especially at the end- in modern times. Id have to agree.
