Richie's Arc in his episode was fantastic. Was a great payoff for a character that I had written off as the problem with the restaurant. The scene in the finale where he rocks out the service was beautiful. His pure joy when he found his purpose in the machine that is restaurant was just lovely.

As a man who'll be turning 40 this year, Richie's storyline hit extra hard. Tina's too. I'm sure we've all felt the insecurity of being an impostor or being left behind at some point. I like the fact even though they're both given the opportunity by Carm and Sydney, the changes are ultimately done by them.

He may not always be effusive about it, but it's clear that he thinks she's a top notch chef and knows full well that restaurant would never have come to be without her. I gotta disagree. I saw Sydney and Carmy both as failures this season that paralleled each other. They only ever achieved success in moments that they work together and fall apart when they don't. This season was all about the characters around them growing, with those 2 taking a back seat much of the time and actually remaining fairly static as characters. I believe season 3 may be the last season, where we see the 2 of them actually grow.

So many things to say about this show. One of my favorites is Richie sending the Uncle the chocolate covered banana. The Christmas episode the Uncle tells a story about bananas and then Tiff want's to thank him for giving Richie a job even though that wasn't a done deal. Uncle covers for him and says yes and Richie say's thank you quietly behind Tiff's head. During the episode of Richie finding his purpose he's taught to listen and remember the customers and make their experience one to remember. So when there was a surprise for table 51 and Sid said isn't the Mr. Kalinowski, he said yes, right on the nose. He sent Uncle a chocolate covered banana. Richie remembered the good deed the Uncle did and sent the memory. Richie rules.

When Carmy is having a conversation with Sydney, it doesn't feel like they are "trying", they just "are". They have a back and forth and natural rapport with each other. With Claire, it felt like more she was always taking the initiative or lead and Carmy had to kind of "force", for lack of a better word, himself to be as open as he could. It didn't feel natural. I don't see why they had to introduce a love interest this season. Carmy is still a mess and has A LOT of things he needs to work through. It would have been nice to see him in more meetings or therapy sessions.

I think you, and a lot of others, are completely missing the point of Claire’s character. She’s a calm, truly selfless and loving presence in Carmy’s life, and he has no idea how to handle it. His idea of love is fucked, as illustrated by his family’s stressful dynamic in Fishes. The trauma endured from Carmy’s family permeates into his relationships and own sense of self-worth, he’s hesitant to open himself up because he’s never known a love so pure. Claire has to go out of her way to get Carmy to allow himself to accept love and be happy for once. I think Claire was perfect, she’s likely the only thing standing in the way of Carmy becoming his mother. I really hope the show ends with them together, Carmy deserves to be happy.

@@NicksFitnessYTyes! This is why fishes is such an important episode. When richie calls carmy “donna” through the fridge door we all know what he means and why that stings so much. My one issue is that claire seems to like carmy a little too much a little too fast. All his issues aside, it doesn’t seem unreasonable for him to not be ready to reciprocate just yet and to be willing to trade a fairly new relationship for the pursuit of a very high risk personal project.

@@NicksFitnessYTSo, I have to say that I think Carmy’s family thinks that Claire is good for him (refer back to S2E6). I really do believe that Carmy has feelings for her, but the panic attack scene showed, to me at least, that this is a relationship that he feels his family approves of or thinks is good, particularly Mikey, and we know already how much Carmy strived to get his approval. Claire couldn’t calm him down because she’s tied to his family & past. I will point out how interesting it is that Sydney is who calms him, although at this point, I am only sure that it is tied to their work relationship. I don’t know if Claire & Carmy are endgame or not, & I have no issues with Claire, nor do I “ship” Carmy & Sydney, just thought I would share.

I don't think Marcus is becoming like Carmy (in the sense that he's hyper focused on one thing and having no time for other things). Marcus had that talk with Luca in episode 4 about being more open to the world (and other people) and not only focusing on culinary skills. According to Luca, most of the incredibly things he'd eaten haven't been because the skill level is high or had loads of fancy techniques. They're incredible because they're inspired. And you get inspiration by being open. I think that idea of being open and inspired is what drove Marcus to actually ask Sydney out. Unfortunately, the outcome was not in Marcus' favor. But still, the fact that Marcus tried to ask Sydney out means he's not singularly focus on his culinary skills. Also, Marcus (and the entire crew) was definitely focused on the restaurant's opening and I don't think he has his phone with him. I don't think Marcus not being able answer the nurse's call (probably because the phone is not with him) is equivalent to Carmy actually ignoring Claire's call due to kitchen duties. When Luca was talking about this chef who started in the same fancy restaurant as him but is much better than him, I believe he was talking about Carmy. That version of Carmy (young Carmy) was the one that was focused on skills/techniques. Sort of the opposite of the openness Luca was talking about.

I wasn’t a fan of Claire, I feel like they tried to make her a “dream girl” with all the extended smiles and the long plastic stares. Her performance was of huge contrast to the other cast members. She felt kind of out of place in the show, like she was meant to be in rom com or something. But I love the concept of Carmy falling in love and their story was executed brilliantly. I guess we were supposed to view her in this romanticized way through Carmy’s eyes, as she simply served the purpose of being a distraction and being a part of his life that he had to sacrifice, denying himself normalcy and enjoyment for the sake of success.

I think it also shows how much Carm has let Mikey’s memory overtake his identity. Richie asked Carm at the beginning of season two what his idea of fun was, with no answer. In the finale here, Carm states he deserves no amusement or enjoyment. If anything I think Claire made him realize that he is a person outside of Mikey and most important of all that it’s okay for him to be his own person. Carm is so damaged by what he thinks his brother thought of him that he put himself in horrific, abusive situations beyond his family life. I just don’t think Carm understands how loved and appreciated he is, not just by Mikey, but by Sugar, by Richie, by the people still in his life.

I love that we got to see the family dynamic in episode 6. I've also seen the hate for the Claire storyline. Although it may have felt a little out of place, I can definitely see where it served a purpose. Carm has tortured himself for a long time and constantly puts himself in tough positions. He internalizes most of his struggles Through all of these struggles, his main takeaway is that he ruins everything he touches. He also can't accept that good things are going to happen to him. He's a tortured genius. Although I feel that this storyline could've been developed a little better, it does serve its purpose. It further develops Carm's character and dives deeper into his trauma. Hopefully things will be a little smoother next season though! Even a "mediocre" storyline is still great. This show and its crew are PERFECT!!!

One of the most cliche "oh here we go again" eyeroll moments in a kitchen is when the night is a nightmare, you're in the weeds and the General Manager steps up to take over expo, only to make things even worse.

I think the Richie episode was the best overall episode from a good season that let us look into each of the characters. Just sad we have to wait another year to see what happens next.

I saw some reviews saying that Carmy is unfortunately becoming one of the less interesting characters on the show and I think that’s true. I was rooting for him and Claire because he deserves happiness but I agree they didn’t have a lot of chemistry and that entire plot line felt forced. It’s like they boiled down his character to trauma, genius, and being emotionally unavailable. Richie became my favorite character this season. Already loved his arc in season 1 but watching him find purpose after life kept kicking the shit out of him again and again…that was genuinely touching to see. And agree with you about season 6. All the guest stars were incredible but Jamie Lee Curtis straight-up stole every scene even when she wasn’t on camera. Loved the unexpected moment between her and as Pete in the finale. I think the one thing I prefer about season 1 was that (since it was almost entirely filmed inside the kitchen) the ensemble felt like more of a unit. They seemed more united and aware of each others feelings, etc. Communication issues were just abounding as the group worked to set up the restaurant (mostly due to Carmy). But at the same time it was really interesting to explore the characters individually. Overall, loved this season

I do hope they do a season 3 because Carmy at least has some unresolved issues to deal with. He needs to learn to open up to people around him and to ask for help when he needs it. So does Sydney, on a lesser level - her really blasé rejection of Marcus wasn’t cool and the two of them would make a great team. Marcus I can see going even farther, he has the passion and the drive. We could see Tina develop further too as a sous chef (the amount of confidence she gained is incredible!) and many of the side characters like Ebram could be explored more (his decision to suddenly stop going to culinary school was strange and sudden and the show never really properly addressed it).

its so insane seeing Jeremy Allen White in this role because it literally feels like Lip Gallagher from Shameless in an alternate universe. Still in Chicago, still with an insane and dysfunctional family, still a genius but in another way, he still uses a lot of physicality and mannerisms he used when he played Lip it makes it hard for me to detatch him from that character and focus on him being Carmy sometimes🤣 he did a phenomenal job none the less, I was just an absolute Shameless fanatic who has binge watched it multiple times. Sidenote, with that in mind, Richie wouldve been an incredible addition to the cast of Shameless when it was on.

I haven't been able to find any video breakdowns of Syd & Carmy's relationship. I'd love to see that. There's a really interesting mix of mutual professional respect & tenderness between the two that I don't see often on TV. I think that could be the basis for a compelling romantic relationship down the line. The table scene, Carmy thinking of Syd as he was trying to calm down, the subtle touches between the two, Syd not wanting to "share" his attention, etc... There's a lot there, no matter how subtle

Dude watching Carmens world fall apart while getting was stuck in the walk in powerless to do anything brought me to tears. I think all of us who have aorked in a restaurant have had times where maybe our relationship was falling apart and we were trying to work thinfa out but we were stuck in a dinner rush or something and had to just suck it up. This reminded me alot of that feeling even even if technically it happened after the rush. So heart breaking. I wish he would think mord before he talks . Truly appreciated holding on through all the twists & turns. Every character is so well composed. Please, please don’t let Carman lose Claire. Look forward to more. Thanks to everyone’s contribution. There's a lot of religious symbolism throughout the show and to me , the fridge scene is clearly meant to be a confessional. His dear "cousin " dressed like a priest , answering to his hurtful words by "I love you !" I think next season is going to be about repentance & grief .

Loved the "Shameless" guest spot. Hope to see Emmy Rossum and William H Macy in season 3. I think this has the same uplifting vibe as Ted Lasso. I can think of another character based currently airing series with the same vibe. In season one, Carmy carried the team. In season 2, the team carried Carmy. Predictions: by the end of the 3rd season, Syd will leave The Bear to open her own restaurant. 4th season, we go back and forth between The Bear and her restaurant, which fails by the end of the season where she's back at The Bear. Carmy was super stressed without her. 5th (and final) season is where they get a star (or stars) and there is a battle of egos between Carmy and Syd. At the end, Carmy eventually takes a back seat to let Syd take over the day to day responsibilities for his mental and emotional health.

I agree that Clair and Carmy was a bit out of place. There was no need to do that as he already has a screwed up relationship with a woman that ultimately resulted in him having a melt down at the opening - his mom. There was no need for Claire, they could have just explored more his relationship with Donna. In the end he behaved just like she did at that Christmas dinner. He messed up more because of Donna and her bad parenting than because of Claire and few distractions.

This show is devastatingly and heartbreakingly good. I've always heard that season 2 is never as good as season 1 of a great series, but I think The Bear disproves that completely! Wow! The character development in these S2 episodes was deep and satisfying, and shown to us, the audience, through each character's self awareness, which was so touching. Watching Richie and Marcus in particular--who hasn't been where they've been?--and then to be lifted up because someone was patient enough to show them who they already were? And they were smart and open enough to take it in. And one more thing--the one-hour "Christmas Past" episode. That explains a lot--Mikey's addiction and suicide, Carmy's insecurities, Natalie's need to fix things. I suspect those issues will continue to play a big role in this show. Keep the seasons coming, with more episodes in each season.

Loved the first season and like how they brought it yet again in Season 2. 🔥🔥🔥 I especially loved how everyone literally leveled up this season, especially Richie, Marcus and Tina. While it was interesting seeing Carmy attempt to have something outside of the restaurant, the Claire storyline seemed forced and I didn’t see nor get any sort of chemistry between them at all. Though in season 1, Syd and Carmy’s relationship seemed strictly professional, this season, there’s a natural growing emotional connection between them, which I don’t mind at all. Seems out of everyone, Syd totally gets the anxiety and stress of what Carmy goes through on a daily basis and vice versa. I thought it was touching how Carmy reacted when Syd finally told him that her mother was deceased; I think he may have felt that he should’ve known that already. The scene when they have the conversation under the table was especially telling. Though I think if they did end up having romantic feelings for each other, it would mess up the working relationship and especially with Marcus crushing on (then later rejected) by Syd. I don’t think Syd gets (nor gives herself) enough credit. If it wasn’t for her, the restaurant wouldn’t have nearly been as put together as it was. I totally respect her ambition and drive it be the best leader they she can despite the constant stress and anxiety she faces. Also, Robert Townsend playing her father was perfect casting. Looking forward to season 3!🔥🔥🔥
