In addition to that, I like the contrast in how forks are used as a symbol of tension and chaos by Mikey, whereas Carmy uses spoons as somewhat of a comfort utensil (with the way he uses them when stressed or when explaining things).

I love how they pointed out that Richie is at his best and happiest when he's genuinely connecting with people. He's so abrasive and crass throughout the entire first season that it's easy to miss how he gets along with so many other people in the kitchen, how he's the one who deals with the customers out front and knows them all by name. The signs of Richie's purpose were always there, except just like him we don't quite see it until he does.

The Emmy he won was for the first season. The second season will only compete at the next Emmy Awards in September and season 3 only in 2025's Emmy. The funny thing is, Carmy respects Richie so much more than Richie ever realized because 'good with people' is something Carmy would never be described as. Carmy is this incredible chef, master of the kitchen, butnhe can't connect with others in a healthy way and constantly messes up and misunderstands what people need from him. Richie has so much emotional intelligence, but it's hampered by a deep lack of self worth and self respect, so his gaze is constantly being turned inwards in self destructive ways. When he just let's himself be and focuses on servicing others social needs, he's actually insanely perceptive and able to act on those perceptions with remarkable charisma. He found his worth.

  • @AlasdairGR

I think that's one of the big reasons that Richie and Mikey were best friends, they both were so good with people and had incredible situational and emotional awareness. Like Carmy says in his monologue in Season 1, Mikey could enter a room and instantly take the temperature of it. I think Richie has that adeptness as well, and it's so great to see him reach for his full potential.

Don't worry, Eric, I also had water start leaking from my eye at that exact moment the first time I watched this episode (and basically every time I've rewatched it). I love this season so much, and how the show has taken time to focus on each character. I never imagined a Richie episode would pull at my heart strings like this, but here we are. We've watched him struggle at The Beef/Bear to find his purpose. The first episode of the season had him in the basement telling Carmy he's afraid they're going to "drop his ass" because he not the talented/genius/star of the crew. Then he butts into Fak's business with the reno (see mold falling from the ceiling). He's constantly arguing with Natalie. And to get here, with him finally respecting himself and feeling that he is worthy and worth it, it's beautiful.

There are few pieces of media that truly make me feel like 'Hey, I wish I could forget about this, so I could get to experience it again for the first time'. This episode is one of them. While the entire show is amazing (and one of my personal favorites), this episode is just something else. It gains more value once you've followed Richie from the beginning and understand where he's coming from with his refusal to change (I feel like it was easy to judge him on S1 by forgetting that he had lost Mike as well) and, in the end, this one really feels like a victory. I don't really know how to put it into words, but once the episode was over, I felt so... at peace? We went from lack of purpose, from him feeling like he had nothing to offer while his people had so much. How everyone around him seemed to be improving while he was stuck. To him realizing that his skills were there, and they were important as well. That he also had value, because a restaurant is not just its chefs (something he can't do at a high level), but also the people they serve (and that he can do and do well). It was so beautiful to see. Richie's journey resonates with me on a personal level and this episode was a nice thing to watch, one of those instances where media can actually inspire and help and maybe even heal, apart from providing entertainment. Beautifully written and performed. Favorite episode of the show so far and absolute favorite cameo as well! The noise I made when I saw THE Olivia Colman! And how her story resonated as well with that "never too late to start over". Ugh! I hope we get at least one more episode like this one on s3.

I love this episode SO much. before this, Richie just annoyed me no end. seeing him step up, grow up, and respect himself and others is just GOLD.

I think making memories is important for Richie and him getting a chance to make little memories for other people is inspiring to him. Forks is my favorite episode. Fishes is a trial, Forks is an evolution.

That’s awesome that they brought you guys Pequods. I make sure to get deep dish every time I go back home.

Ritchie has some of the best character growth I’ve ever seen in either tv or movies, Ebon Moss-Bacharach is absolutely getting another Emmy for this show!

Pequods has been repeatedly voted the best deep dish in the city. I have dined there a few times and it is more than the best deep dish, it's the best pizza I have ever had...no exaggeration

Love that you're watching The Bear! You should do Interview with the Vampire TV show on AMC+ next, it is as underrated as Black Sails was, and just as brilliant with the storytelling.
