Cut-Rate Commander - Episode 49 - Featuring The Beamtown Bullies from Streets of New Capenna #MTG #mtgCapenna #edh #commander
The meanest thugs from The Streets of New Capenna - The Beamtown Bullies - are taking some time off from picking on the local to instead harass our enemies in a build that guaranteed to have them asking "Why are you hitting ourself?".
In this build, we’ll be aiming to use The Beamtown Bullies effect to gift our opponents wither creatures with absolutely terrible effects to cripple their gameplans, or alternatively, gift them huge creatures that can crack into out other opponents for solid damage - preferably both. That of course means the build will be chock full of big & bad creatures, alongside plenty of means for us to dump them into our grave from hand or deck to enable our commander. Then coupled with lots of instead speed removal to get the creatures we gift back into our bin before they exile themselves and means to both untap and protect our commander to get extra uses out of them and keep them alive - we can just sit back and relax while our opponents defeat themselves with the creatures we give them, all while we taunt “Why are you hitting yourself?”.
Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video.

    The Bullies are rather interesting. Sure you could go full tilt into the bad gifts strategy with lots of stuff like Leveler, Inverter of Truth, etc. but that would likely get you focused down too quickly and earn a lot of bad will. I really like the idea of being able to politick by saying "hey would you like a Pathrazer of Ulamog to help you out? Yes? Well today's your lucky day!"

    Yet another stellar list. I think more than half the decks I'm playing these days are either your designs, or slightly tweaked versions of your decks. This one really scares me and I thought the Horror deck was nightmare enough. • @GrazzetMTG

    @GrazzetMTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    I agree, its forced block and massive stat-line make it an ideal card to give to someone else, have them devastate another opponents board and hopefully get it back to the bin since it died in combat. It would have made the build but the top end was getting kind of full, so it ended on the cutting room floor... Still, if you want to swap out one of our other 8 drops for it, I can see it performing very well here!

    The MEMEtown Bullies, amirite? Good video, a good place to start off as well. My iteration has a more Discard/Stax heavy theme. I do this for two reasons: disrupt any attempt to have me get my gameplan thwarted, and to pitch my own dudes into my graveyard. A lot of small AoE discard effects like Rotting Rats are in the build, which, coincidentally, can double-up on the effects of I have untappers and Royal Assassin/Seedborn out. I would like to argue the case of Tempting Wurm/Boldwyr. They are fun cards but giving opponents an avenue where they can directly counter your deck is a trap. Much like how Maralen players need to sequence their plays before tutoring the winning combo piece before their opponents tutor for something to halt us. In Wurm/Boldwyr's case we dont really have a lot of ways to counteract the other persons counter other than "guess the correct player to Leveler first". Thats my case for excluding them in my build. Hellcarver Demon domes people hard though. Like, holy cow. Edit: spelling

  • @GrazzetMTG

    @GrazzetMTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you enjoyed the build! I personally dislike Stax since it tends to be an "unfun" playstyle in my opinion, but I can see going in that direction would help combat against interaction from your opponents, and APE discard - especially repeatable ones - can certainly be a good way to strip resources from our opponents hands while loading our own grave for the Bullies to use. I can see the argument against the Symetrical effects for Tempting Wurm/Boldwyr. Tempting Wurm is a bit easier to "safely" set up since we do have other creatures that can blow up our opponents hands, but apart from removing the creature that they cheat in with Boldwyr Heavyweights there really isn't anything that can be done to prevent ETB effects/activated abilities. Still, the counter argument would be that our top ends tend to be much larger than our opponents so we should (in theory) still be able to outclass them and even if they remove the creature we being in with their pick, it will usually go right back to our bin so we can just give it to an opponent to use against each other instead. And yeah, Hellcaver demon is a superb "wipe" in this build since there really isn't anything anyone can do about it apart from removing it before it swings.

    Despotic Scepter and Seedborn Muse are two cards I'd recommend for this deck! I'm also thinking about playing Hermit Druid with about 3 to 5 basic lands in the deck

  • @GrazzetMTG

    @GrazzetMTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    Despotic Scepter is a great addition to get our creatures back in the bin for no mana cost and Seedborn Muse is useful as always thanks to its mass untap every turn (though it will likely eat more removal than even our commander!) make them both every solid upgrades if you have the budget. Hermit Druid I'm less keen about, since I rather have more precise forms of graveyard setup but it certainly does work - so if you like it, by all means run it!

    Would anyone consider adding Impetuous Devils? 6/1 trample haste that let's an opponent target a creature to block and sacs itself at the end step? Seems like a good repeatable form of removal but I think I might be over valuing it.

  • @GrazzetMTG

    @GrazzetMTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    I can see it being added as pseudo-removal because of the forced blocking but the sacing itself on then step is not really relevant, since our opponent can stack the end of turn triggers so that the exile happens first and we don't get our creature back tot he bin. Still, I can see this being a playable addition and one that didn't really come to mind when putting the build together, so thanks for pointing it out!

    Your mana base is wrong: not counting the creatures you want to give to your opponent, you're at 34 black mana, 14 green and 18 red; While your lands are at 12 black, 16 green, 13 red (& 4 any color). And you forgot the Tempting Wurm! (I would remove the ox of agonax to make this deck even more budget friendly)

  • @GrazzetMTG

    @GrazzetMTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    The mana base is actually intentional, as the overwhelming majority of our ramp is in green, making it much more important to see green early to ramp and fix our mana, after which there shouldn't be any issues fixing our colors. And Tempting Wurm was included in the upgrades as well (since sadly its $10 price count make the base build).
