It was no prank--its a miracle the Beach Boys survived, especially Dennis.

Mike Love forgot to mention that The Beach Boys recorded one of Manson’s songs and never paid or gave him credit. “Never Learn Not to Love” originally titled “Ceased to Exist”.

Secondly, even if it had, it took place before the Tate-LaBianca murders; it's easy for everyone on the internet in the 2020s to look back and say they would have handled the situation differently. Dennis was scared for his family, and Manson had already threatened the life of his young son. Read the full story.

Dennis Wilson was seduced by Mansons women. And Brian once saw Manson and luckily they never met directly. I think Manson would have manipulated and scared Wilson who’s a very sensitive guy. He could have threatened him or blackmailed him even. Later Dennis Wilson just gave up and disappeared because he couldn’t control or stop Manson. He was lucky to survive Manson, too!

According to engineer Steve desper, Charlie recorded close to 100 hours of tape at Brian’s home studio some time in 1968. It resulted in 6-8 polished songs, some of which allegedly include Brian, Carl and Dennis harmonizing behind Manson’s leads vocals. in my opinion i don’t think he survived manson. wilson was far more involved with the group and knew a lot more than people let on. they don’t talk about it at all but charlie ruined wilson, which probably turned him to addiction resulting in his drowning.

Manson was evicted from Wilson's house in 68. The weapons Mike Love describes weren't at Spahn's ranch until 69 when the family met weapons expert Danny DeCarlo. That part of his story doesn't add up.

For the last time Dennis did not rip off Charlie . He paid 100k for the families medical bills when they lived with him .

Also, what was Dennis supposed to do exactly? Go to the cops and say “I have a weirdo living in my place and he’s very powerful, he’s able to mind control a bunch of hippies, and I think one day he might orchestrate a murder, arrest him!!” I’ve met a lot of weird people in my life, and I’ve never once turned someone in just because I thought there was a chance they would do something messed up. Dennis is absolutely not to blame. The only reason people think that is because he’s famous and it became a big story.

Nor should they have. Manson supposedly turned over the rights to his song to pay the exorbitant bills that the Family rang up while living at Dennis' Sunset Blvd house. Well over $100k and a lot of that were dr bills for treatment of STDs. I think Clem had totaled one of Dennis' cars too. But, who knows what's true in this case....

Dennis picked up the girls hitchiking, took em to his place and they had group sex for days. The girls were very impressed with Dennis, he had a great house, a Ferrari, gold records. So he has a travelling gig, he comes home and there's Charlie, Tex, the whole Family in his house and they made it clear who the boss was--Charlie He wanted to be a rock star and wanted Dennis, Brian, Melcher, to hook him up in the business, but he was so far out there he weirded everyone out with his spookiness. He was willing to kill em all if he didn't get his way. This was enough to make Brian paranoid for years. He was scared of Charley and with good reason.

Fuck me! That's fucked up! I don't think Dennis was ever the same after the charles Manson incident! I think he thought he could still get him even tho he was in prison.

Ive been there. And Mike only met Manson once. Briefly. And the Beach Boys stole Manson's song. Giving no credit whatsover. Which shows how shady the beach boys were.

Isn't it possible that Mike wasn't at Brian's house when Manson was there? Also, at times people can misremember things. Brian Wilson claims he never met John Lennon, but other people saw them corresponding at a party in the 70s. Brian introduced himself to John. When Brian left, John said they have met many times. Lol! Of course, Brian's memory has been damaged by drugs.

Those Beach Boys guys might have actually made something of themselves if they had taken on Charlie as a band member.

No. I think they should've given Dennis and Brian (70's, obviously) more control in the recording process. The mistake is having both of them perform live since the touring life back then was the most destructive thing you could do to a group with well documented mental and addiction issues.

I wonder if Manson's brief influence over Dennis had anything to do with Brian's mental problems? The failure of the "Smile" sessions and his cocaine use has always been cited as the main cause of his retreat from the band and institutionalization. Did Manson contribute to that or did Brian's seclusion inadvertently shield him from that craziness?

Your timeline is off. The Smile sessions were 2 years before Dennis met Manson. Brian's first break down was 2 years before the Smile sessions anyway. Late 64 after having marijuana for the first time. I don't think cocaine was something he used until the 70s. He was using LSD and Hashish during the Smile Sessions (66-67).
