My husband’s grandfather, John Crites, served as a motion picture cameraman in Vietnam for 13 months. One of the first big battles he filmed was for Hue city. It gives me chills thinking some of the clips we see in this video may be his.

iv visited the citadel today huè has always been in my top 3 places in the world to go see and having such an intrest in the vietnam war,, today seeing a place of such vast beauty while also still seeing bullet holes and motor shell damage after all these years was just surreal

My brother was KIA February 19th in Hue. I've been told his whole unit was killed except his captain and one other.

Met a Marine that fought in Hue City at my VA exercise group. His artillery unit was en route to KheSahn, but were redirected to Hue

Thank you for this video. The overview of the city and the colour footage of the battle was just what I was looking for. I am reading Dale A. Dye's 'Run Between the Raindrops', which is his personal account of the Battle of Hue City, but unfortunately the book has neither maps nor pictures. Dye was a Marine correspondent who often doubled as a Marine rifleman or corpsman, depending on the demands of the situation. I am really enjoying his black humour and gritty grunt-level description of fighting, and would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this battle from the Marines' perspective. I wanted to see the faces of the people he interviewed over those weeks, and your video gave them to me. BTW, Dye played the infantry captain in 'Platoon'- the one who called in the airstrike on his own pos at the end of the film.

My uncle was right in the middle of this shit. He absolutely does not like to talk about it, however as he’s getting older, I’d love to take a record of his time in Vietnam. How would you go about asking a vet to talk about it? He’s definitely a very sweet bulldog. But his bark was as bad as his bite back in the day. It makes me very proud that there was a Gonzalez name tape out there kicking some ass. Among many other of course, but it fills me with pride to know my own family did their part and fought in this war valiantly.

If you were in Nam, you know what it was like, if you weren't in Nam, there isn't any way to comprehend the heat, fear, stupidity, exhaustion, unless your uncle kept a diary or some written record of what he did, I don't think that he will be able to remember all his time in RVN, remember this was over 50 plus years ago. My memory is kind of sketchy on some things, don't forget your uncle has had 50 plus years living of this and that to store away in his brain housing group.

It would be interesting to see a take on the battle of Khe Sahn as well.

On first reports coming back from the wounded in Hue, General LaHue the Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division made the statement that it was not possible the the NVA had more than two companies in Hue. There were actually 3 regiments.

​@realmoviefactsnotfake You are misinformed, certainly about Stalingrad. Due to the nature of construction there, the initial bombing did not collapse the buildings. Sidewalls blew out, and after that further bombing had little to no effect because the destructivness of the bombs depended on generated pressure waves inside enclosed spaces. Fighting was house to house with Soviet soldiers "hugging the enemy" (as per Chuikov's orders) preventing them from using tanks, artillery and air power. The tanks were also impeded by the walls left standing: their guns could not be depressed or elevated enough.

Somewhat correct. But its pretty close. SEMPER FI goes out to Capt Batchelor 2Bn 5th Marines. Retreat Hell. The 5th Marines from base camp @ Phu-Bai were called out to Hue City. Just after Hue City the 5th Marines recamped out to An Hoa valley and Phu Loc Bridge camp. Been there, done that. Semper Fi to all Marines !

My talked about his experience with me and only me for some reason. Also his psych, I guess bc I would just listen. I never tried to say I understand or I feel u, but it was some funny stories but most were bad. He got court marshall and we found the transcripts. Welcome home. He was part of the 1st Infantry division, The Big Red One, he served from 67 to 69.

He was in a place that they Rocket City. Also he said he was Staff Sergeant for a day bc when a higher rank saluted him my dad knew that guy was racist and a lot of soldiers didn't like him. Well he saluted and my did saluted back and then for some reason he pushed my dad hard, it was off guard and he just came back from the field so he was probably still in that mode, but when my got up he punched him and later they demoted my dad. I can't remember exactly but he did punch him and was demoted. LMAO.

There never really was a South Vietnam and the only Vietnamese to ask us for help was ho chi min LBJ and his wife took financial control of Bell helicopter and made large investments in Genral dynamics just before he sent troops they were also protecting the rubber plantation for Michelin It was about money and raw materials Freedoms and Democracy had noting to do with it was manufactured nonsense and unnecessary

Never knew army was there, always thought it was just marines. Sounds like they couldn't get it done without the jar heads anyway... 👀👀👀

@@Mk18_40mm No its not truth. Okay, that's why Marines have not lost a battle in their entire history. The only time the Marine Corps have so called "lost something" was Phillipines 1942 WW2 after Pearl Harbor. And that was because they ran out of bullets and the Army General in charge told the Marines to stand down. The Marine Corps will always complete the mission they're assigned. Also the Marines hold the highest of basic standards in the United States military, physical fitness and marksmanship. Marines have countless times throughout history got assigned some of the most brutal fighting in most modern history because of the Marines readiness and absolute will to fight and to kill all. Marines celebrate war, they embrace the chaos. Now with that said, are the Marines better than ever other branch in the military? Maybe, based on their history, standards, and mentality. The fact is this though, Marines aren't better than everyone in the US military but they have a damn good resume to back it up. 😏 But you can keep on hating, the Marine is used to the jealousy. The cold hard truth is you cannot deny the Marine Corps' history just like you cannot deny the other branches of the US military's history. We all chew the same dirt.

Westmoreland was a clown, and the reason we didn't succeed.

Sounds like the US control command was very unprepared which caused many of casualties. Which could of saved many lives.
