The confrontation between Mark Antony and Octavian was a key episode in the history of ancient Rome that led to the end of the Roman Republic and the establishment of the Principate under the leadership of Octavian, who later became Emperor Caesar Augustus. The conflict unfolded during the period known as the Roman Civil Wars, which took place in the 1st century BC. After the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC, a coalition known as the Second Triumvirate was formed, composed of Mark Antony, Octavian (Caesar's adopted grandson), and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus. Together, they sought to avenge Caesar's death and stabilize the Republic. However, tensions arose among the members of the Triumvirate, and Mark Antony became more closely associated with Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt. This personal and political bond generated distrust and animosity between Mark Antony and Octavian.
