The BASS were STACKED and JACKED!! Holston River Tourney

Спорт

What a day of fishing in another kayak tournament. This time I was floating a section of the Holston river in north east tennessee. Fun day with a bunch of fish caught.

You need to buy a different truck for each kayak so you don’t have to unload when you get home. That way your taking care of two of your loves, trucks and kayak’s. Go get ‘em John

Loosing fish through the peddle drive hole while trying to get that picture is a big pain. SUGGESTION: Lay your fish net over the hole while doing the picture. If he flops off the board to the hole, your net will save him from going down the hole.

John The winning is just being able to get out there and fish, breathe the air, seeing those deer and making new friends. I won just by being able to tag along, here on youtube. Love to be able to fish like that again! Thanks for taking me along, God Bless, (Glen). WV.

Another tip, fish tubes with 1/8 ounce jig heads, I do really well with yellow, pumpkin, green during the day, pending water clarity, and white before dark if top water isn’t crushing. Caught my biggest smallmouth on white tubes….fish above and below the rapids, slow roll square bill crank bait in orange/black, red/black, green/black through deep holes and you will kill the fish, as the day moves closer to sun down. Cast to the shallow banks. You’d be surprised the quality of fish laying up in there. Good luck and stay safe to everyone that reads this.

Thanks again for taking me on another journey with you sir. I really enjoyed fishing tournaments when I was younger and had the time and i miss doing so. One thing I would suggest that helped me in tournaments was I would always have a couple of larger profile baits that I would always throw after my limit was caught. As you have recently shown in a video on Chickamauga Lake it pays off to have a larger (6 to 7 inch) swim bait to entice some bigger fish, and I would always have a jig to throw at any and all laydowns which proved to be very handy. You are a true inspiration to me and I want to thank you again for the journey. Keep up the great work you are doing.

Good video, and yeah... looks like you were having a lot of fun, and you finished near the top third of the field, so that tells me that (& I know that this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway!), you definitely have the talent to become a professional Bass Fisherman on the National Circuit. You really do! It's only a suggestion, but you should look into that. It'd be a really cool thing, to see you in there with the Pros, past and present, like Kevin Van Dam, Mike Iaoconelli, Roland "Son!!!" Martin, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and a whole plethora of other legendary fishermen, that have really studied the Game of Professional Bass Fishing, and have made a name for themselves, through gutting it out, and just through sheer, old-fashioned determination. You've got the goods, man! I know that you can do it! Look at how far you've come, in just the past 5-6 years. Come on, Big Bad John! Take that next step! Get it, and Git-R-Done!!! God bless you and yours, and Happy Memorial Day to ya! ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇲🇺🇲😁

The ancor wizard seems nice, the only things about it that worry me is the inability to quickly let go of your anchor and come back for it,like you can with an old school trolley system. Its no fun to get a fish tangled in the line if you have a big one running. I also like too be able to anchor from the front or back depending on the spot, usually from the stern but the option to anchor off the bow comes in handy for me especially on a windy day on a lake.

I've been fishing kayak tournaments since 2005. One thing I have learned is to put the fish back in the water, either in your net or on a donkey leash, let it relax while you get you camera and board ready. Also you can go to Navarre Kayak and get a blank plate to put over the hole when you pull the pedals.

Nice job in the tourney! Even with a pedal drive, I get allot of use from my anchor wizard. Also, if legal in your tournaments, either setting your fish over the side in the net, or putting on a donkey leash helps them calm down usually for me. It seems to help get a better/easier picture. If you get time can you let me know what your rear camera mount is?

Very exciting video ! Really exciting when the fish fell through the boat. You are a intelligent thinking person, is there some better way to secure the fish to the board. Maybe a mount for your phone, to lessen the time it takes to get the photo. Sorry, just thinking and rambling here. It just hurts to see you lose a good fish. Sixth and fifth place, not too shabby for you and Derick. I remember a previous video (maybe last year), you floated the Holston and caught some nice bass then. You are still our #1 fisherman. As always, be safe ! Randy B.

My shallow water anchor solution: buy a set of hiking poles, put one in your yak and jam it into the riverbed through one of the scupper holes. Works best in about 3' or less. It's cheap, easy to drop and pull anchor, and collapsible for transport. Then take the second pole and clip it to your belt for wading fast and/or deep water. Can't beat it!

Maybe you should get a stringer for tournaments, put the fist on a stringer as soon as you catch it, then measure it. Once you've got the measurement, let it off the stringer. That way they won't keep flopping off while you're trying to measure them.

Idea: After you catch the fish, and take the fish out of the net, cover the hole in the bottom of your kayak with the net. That way, if the fish squiggles around and gets loose, it won't fall through the hole. Then you can get it out again and measure it.
