Great video/insight/thoughts concerning use of a metronome Carlitos!!!.....I have always, (and continue to) work/practice with a metronome. I have a 45 min. practice pad routine always with the click/metronome, BEFORE going to my drums, as well..........And, if ANYONE intends on doing session/studio work in TODAYS world, BEST GET USED TO WORKING WITH A "CLICK"!!!!!....Why lose "work/playing/opportunities/referrals" because one CAN'T play to a click?!?!?...Thanks -Todd

BROTHER... TODD... absolutely right... practicing with it... would ONLY help... it wont hurt at all.. and for sure when the opportunity comes to record with the Click... THERE IT IS WE ARE READY.... HAAAA HUGS... BROTHER.
A metronome is absolutely necessary for practice and recording. Sometimes I use a salsa clave click when it comes to salsa. I play the piano and helps me a lot in the montuno.

Dear Rob Thank you sooo much my friend for you support Hugs..
This fundamental rhythmic practice is without a doubt if not the most important element or, at least one of the most important elements in playing and mastering your instrument. I have been playing for 51 years and still practice and play with a metronome. Excellent video, Míjo.

Thank you my brother... I have not seeing Waynes vid... but I imagine is KILLLINNNN... sending you HUGS.
Such a great video that’s so on point. I understand that some players THINK that “a metronome takes away the feel”. Unfortunately, these are almost always the people lacking the most discipline when it comes to their own private study. Honestly, I feel genuinely bad for a player who has not found the joy and fun of rockin out wit da met! Not to mention this cat is bass royalty in every sense of the word.
You are so right!!!!and another topic: reading music. I can’t explain why for us “rock player “ is a concept difficult to accept. My daughter is 17 and she is a piano student e she cannot understand how you can play without reading!

I think talking shit about metronomes is a cop-out for people who don't want to confront issues with their own time. I was like that for a while - and as a drummer, that was inexcusable. I've since embraced practising the metronome as if it's a bandmate (not some annoying sound that hates me), and since then, my playing has improved drastically!

Totally off topic, but I'm a guitarist trying my hand at bass for the past few months. I just can't get enough of that studio of yours. Can I come and stay in your studio for a couple of days? I'll bring my own food and water.

Thank you my Brother. I'm beginning to think the only people who complain about it are the ones who cannot play to it. They try it once or twice cannot do it then make excuses that its not a human feel. Que Basura!
When I started watching youtube, it surprised me it became controversial.. It's still my daily driver and I careless about what anyone feels. I use it when playing classical pieces and during warmups.. what metronome do you use? I can't customize mine like that

There shouldn’t be any controversy here. Use the metronome or get 🥊 in the guy 😂😂😂

This must be in response to Jeff Berlin and his weird obsession with hating the metronome. I don’t get and have an issue with a click and can’t see how practicing with one could be detrimental to your playing in any way.

@@carlitosdelpuerto yes, Jeff is a fantastic musician and educator. For some reason recently he has been in disputes with other bassists and educators over the use of metronomes.
No controversy in my world, brother! You want to work? Learn how to play locked in to a click, and don’t wait until you show up unprepared to figure it out.
