I know I'm watching this much later. But thankyou so much. I'm in my 70s now and loving the opportunity to learn new stitches. It's like going back to school but much more fun. Blessings.
It doesn't matter how many reference books you have on embroidery stitches it doesn't beat a live demonstration. Great close up shots too Jonathan
Hi Sarah! I bought the Therese de Dillamont Complete DMC Encyclopedia of Needlework and I am OBSESSED with it!! The information in it is just incredible!!! I love that it covers literally everything to do with needlework, all the historical background, and the monogram letters!! I wish I could commit the entire book to memory! I’ve only been hand embroidering for about 2 years and I’m still not that good, but I still love it and I keep practicing just about every day. Thank you so much for your videos!

Thank you for the PDF of the Teddy Bear and the DMC Encyclopedia of Needlework by Therese De Dillmont! Plus, I very much appreciate the intro to lacework I really like it!!!
Cheers to Jonathan's recovery!
thank you for a lovely and a very interesting video I learn so much
Welcome back! So glad Jonathan is feeling better. Your instruction and Jonathan's superb camera work make your tutorials such a joy to watch. Thank you both so much. I will have to give this one a go! 💚
I've been so focused on my own health issues that I didn't even realize that Jonathan has been ill. Please accept my apologies for not having sent good wishes along. I am glad to hear that he is feeling better, now, and that he continues to do well. As a belated offering, I penned this little ditty with Jonathan in mind: Jonnie bought a motorbike And everywhere he went, He took his lovely wife along 'Cause he's a proper gent. On a tour northwest to Scotland Unexpected cash was spent, And a tow straight back to Nottingham Was cause for some lament. To ensure that autumn wouldn't pass With an air of discontent, They headed to Newstead Abbey With a new tire and great intent. It's been fun to view their travels And to see a Guy Fawkes event; I hope they'll one day head southeast to Cantebury, Kent! Thanks to both of you for all the pleasure and knowledge that you bring my way. Sarah, these Teddy Bears are adorable. I can hardly wait to see the next needlelace video. Until then, wishing you good health and great happiness! 😊💖

While sorting out my needlework supplies on Monday, I found a copy of the book you mentioned. It was given to me by my Mother in law, along with her needlework supplies, during her final illness. It it a lovely little book, with lots beautiful stitches and techniques a real gem!
Needlelace is one of those things that seems really intimidating until you see it broken down like this. You always do such a good job.
Hi Sarah, thank you for, your lovely needlelace video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. You make it look so easy. I love the Teddy Bear design. 🧸
Thanks Sarah, awesome

Very interesting, I had never seen embroidery lace done before. Thank you for such a well illustrated video.
Thank you for a fascinating insight into how to start needle lace. The Theresa de Dillmont book is wonderful as a resource for all sorts of needle craft. I have my mother's copy which she got as a present in 1947
I bought a book on needlelace from a 2nd hand bookshop a few months ago. I tried really hard to learn and improve but my work looked like something a cat had dragged in. I returned the book to a charity shop as it became clear this was a craft I was not going to use. I will use the technique, however, to fix the holes in the bird netting that we put over our fruit trees each year.
Cute! I have to try this project! I’ve wanted to learn about it ever since you showed that needle lace frog purse! 🐸 Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you for your lovely video as is beautiful stitching and glad Neil is better now ❤😊
Dear Sarah, I am sorry to hear about your husband, I hope he gets better. I do apologise because yesterday I posted how long it had been since we heard from you, I think I jumped too quickly, again I am sorry. It is really nice to hear and learn from you, I guess we are all grateful for your pacience, at least I am. So once again I thank you and all those envolved to put up these videos and giving me and others the know how of embroidering. It is never enough to learn! x

Oh that was great Sarah thank you!, I've always wanted to be able to understand needlelace, and always struggled with it, I think I'll give the 3rd version a go as I like the idea of the 'bar' to work over, and really looking forward to how to do the teddy with detached needlelace waistcoat as well, looks a lovely project, and so nice to hear Jonathan back again too.
Thanks!

This would make great Easter Eggs too. I've done something similar but tighter, & stuffed it, on a bunnies tummy. Reminds me a bit of Crochet shopping bags or Fishermens nets. TFS Sarah, & take care everybody. ❤🙂🐶

I love your idea of Easter Eggs, and your bunny project sounds adorable! I agree, the needlelace stitches that Sarah used for these teddy bears reminds me of crochet shopping bags, too. I don't have the book that she referenced, but I'm guessing there are other stitches which, when worked with finer threads, would produce a much different fabric. I'm curious, now, to search for other examples of needlelace. 🙂

@@fiberjazz Thank you Fiberjazz. I don't have Sarahs book either, but this really reminded me of Mesh stitch, you could practice it on a very fine crochet hook, & could then try it on a practice piece. It should work, as your working ontop of the Fabric, not actually making holes in it. If that makes sense. You could do them really small for Animal parts, arms, legs, ears & such. Sarah's got us really thinking now. Lol. Take care Fiberjazz. ♥️🙂🐶

@@maxibake9323 Yes, Maxi! The Single and Double Brussels stitches do resemble the crochet Mesh stitch. Thanks for the suggestions! I really like "mixed media" projects - such as when Sarah adds watercolor elements to her embroidery pieces. Your ideas for adding crocheted bits of fabric to embroidered work is another great way of bringing distinct arts/crafts together in a single work. Smart thinking, Maxi. Happy stitching! ♥🙂🐶

You make needlelace look easy. I have Hazel Blomkamp's course to do at some point! I recognize the sampler behind you. I just received the kit. Too much to stitch, so little time! Thanks for your videos!
Hello again. As I was watching your video, I remembered that I have a similar book which is not that old ( 1981 ). I don't think if I can mention it's name because of copyright, but it's a very thick landscape book with an extra loose cover. Beside embroidery, one can find canvas work, appliqué, patchwork, quilting, crochet, lacemaking, macramé, rug-making and knitting. All these guided needlework, have extra information "from buying tools, yarns and fabric, right through to hints on care and maintenance after completion". So for those who love crafting with a needle, look for old women's magazines or girl's activity books, you never know! Thanks again Sarah.

I have become crazy for needle lace. Thank you for providing these easy to understand instructions. Question-once ready to take it off the fabric, I have seen that in the UK , folks use a sticky back plastic over the paper pattern. What on earth is the equivalent in the US. Sarah if you can please let me know I'd be so so grateful.

Have you ever seen the book: "a beginner's guide to stumpwork" by Kay Dennis? I recently acquired a copy and wanted to know your thoughts. Thank you!
I recently started learning needle lace and I'm fascinated. I've never been a big embroidery person but it does make a lot of sense that stitches would be similar. I'm really curious what DMC book you have, could you tell me?. Old books fascinate me also, so I'd love to find a copy. I have some electronic versions of vintage needle lace books but they're not very helpful.

@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thanks! I did manage to find that one along with a more colorful embroidery book, both gently used. Both have sparked my interest in embroidery and memories of doing this when I was much younger. I'm surprised at my own skill (yes, tooting my own horn here). Having a mom & grandma that did all kinds of needlework as I was growing up and who taught me very much when I was very young was priceless. Let's encourage the younger generation so they will be rewarded with their own work some day.

Love the teddies!! Can u stuff the bellies so they puff out?
@lauravivanco
Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can stuff underneath needlace but how you do that will presumably depend on how open the needlelace is. I mean, you don't want loose stuffing popping out through the holes in the lace. But if it's a more filled-in version of needlelace, you could pop some loose stuffing in at the end, before you seal off the shape. Alternatively, if the needlelace is open, you could probably sew down some layers of felt in the centre of the shape, before you start the needlace, the same way that some goldwork is done over felt padding (e.g. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKJ21KShj5O2kbQ.html ).
