I'm a very heavy detailer because I actually took on a completely unique challenge - building an city on a parallel-universe version of Earth. It is inhabited by several non-human races, where half the population are avian - they fly, and when the weather is good, they commute on the wing. Obviously, the game is limited as to what it can model when you are going so far away from a human city paradigm, and concessions have to be made. However, as the game's grown those concessions grow fewer. Example: They never invented cars, but they DO have trucks and trains (rail-runners). The ones that don't fly (or the fliers in bad weather) still take hierachical mass transit - no busses, but lots of trams, metro, and long-distance trains, along with a very complex cargo train network. Mods and DLCs (like Plazas and Promenades) make almost all this possible. It's very difficult, because while some things follow a human paradigm (a port is a port, and they do have a container shipping system) others I've built from scratch with POs and even a few custom assets. But it's also very rewarding - the end result is a very unique city, even if it is more cartoonish than when building a "real" city.

@@Slay3K It's really not unlike building a virtual model railroad. If you can detail model railroads, it doesn't take much adaptation to detail a city in Cities Skylines. :-) But I always appreciate seeing those guides, as I never know where I will pick up new trips and tricks, plus I can share some of my own. The ultimate challenge here is that I can't just pull up a Google Earth map of, say, Prague, and put down a similar-looking city using Hungarian/European assets. A lot of the city has to be created completely from scratch, which means a hundred different decisions have to be made for every area. The devil is in the detailing, literally!

Nice video... Even with basic vanilla and NOTHING else, you can detail as basic as leaving space between house plots for pedestrian paths, trees and rocks in open green spaces, modifying your zone settings to sculpt and shape the skyline. The approach to the build design can create realism through the build. Czardus's Ludington build is a great example. Because he built the city in a historically authentic way, it had a remarkable amount of realism through at least 50 episodes before he ever got to plopping custom assets. Enjoyed the build in the background of your narrative.

Thank you! I hope to cover more ways to fill that space, even with vanilla, but there's so many options. I hope that I can at least make it seem somewhat more approachable for those interested.

I play on Xbox, I don’t have access to mods other than a couple buildings and of course the DLCs. But I still consider my finished cities medium level detail. I usually use things like the food trucks, garbage cans, lamp posts, or bushes and trees. My favourite thing to do is building biking paths around my city or parks. My current project is an open space between two neighbourhoods that I need to put a train track through but also need to make a bike path for. It should be interesting, I plan to use a few rusty old cars and fence assets to make a junk yard beside the tracks as well. It never looks photo real but I enjoy making it.

Running an i9, with 64GB of ram and a 3090 with everything saved to an SSD. I get lag and stutter to, it's just going to happen with assets. Cities, with assets, can be very ram intensive.. 16-32 is recommended depending on how many assets you're running.

Is there a workaround to the anarchy mod, as when I have it put on, so that I can place trees down on other pavement props, next time I load into my game, the trees have dissappeared. They are maybe inside of the other prop.
