The Basic Aerodynamic of a Kite

Not every kitesurfer knows about the basic aerodynamics of a kite. But having this knowledge can help you in clearly understanding why your kite might front or back stall.
This episode is not complete with detailed informations about aerodynamic.
Kite back stalls because the air flow cannot follow the extrados of the kite along, unfortunately I didn't mention it.
As on "wind tunnel" example even if you don't see the parcels or smoke going on the extrados of the kite there is still a lot of lift shown, It means the kite is still not back stalling. So to make it simple for you to understand if you use the "Wind Tunnel", just watch the difference in Drag and Lift, because that "Drag becomes equal or higher than the Lift the kite back stalls", we cannot say that this statement is incorrect, but yes, to be complete should be mentioned "the air flow cannot follow the extrados of the kite along".
Aerodynamic is a very complex topic and it can be really difficult to understand it, as kiters it's definitely not necessary to know all the details about aerodynamic :)

The back stall does not occur because the drag becomes higher than the lift but because the boundary layer of the extrados cannot follow the kite anymore. It is the same thing as sheeting in too much a sail or the stalling of an airplane.

Airfoils prevent stalling but don't create lift. When the boundary layer is compromised, air momentum is changed to favour neutral lifting force. So if air goes down the kite goes up but if air goes round and round kite goes no ware.
Thank you for your video. Well I guess I keep back stalling my kite in the lessons I have at the moment.
