I remember reading a story that when Steve Morse was working for the airlines he attended a work holiday party and sat in with the band and no one had any idea he could play or who he was! So imagine seeing him rip it like this at a party! Jaws must have been dropping all over!

His guitar just has a shit load more notes than mine...Steve is one of the most likeable and friendly guitar giant you'll ever meet!

I saw these guys about half a dozen times, and Rod Morgenstein in clinic a couple of others. Decades ago I saw The Dreggs at a small venue in Phoenix, and watched the entire concert from about 15 feet above and behind Morgenstein's kit, hidden on a darkened stairwell behind the stage (the head of security talked to me before the show, knew I was a drummer just chillin' in the shadows so he let me stay. . . I probably should have bought that guy a drink or a hooker or something). Great band, unique and creative. So glad a drummer friend, Kenny Becker, turned me on to them so long ago. I'm gonna stop rambling now. Thanks for the upload.

This is the kind of music he will never play with Deep Purple. But strangely, that guitar is the one he also used to play tracks like Space Truckin, Black Night, and HIghway Star. Just a proof how versatile and expansive his guitar playing is!!

My first listen to Steve was shortly after High Tension Wires came out and I was in the local music store, the owner was listening to Tumeni Notes and I pretty much froze and listened. I had to ask who it was. At the time I was still in the early phase of learning guitar and was blown away. All these years later I still can't believe what I see and hear sometimes. Steve is an incredible and diverse talent. Sidenote, Jerry is just as bad ass and has been killing on the violin forever. His stuff way back with Mahavishnu was insane.

True story. I'm at West LA Music Keyboard show sometime in early or mid 80s and T. Lavitz is in the Ensoniq room demo-ing their latest products. I'm a huge Dregs fan. No internet yet. I'm a young fan and I asked him what the "T" stood for. He was so cool n humble- he lowers his voice: "Don't tell anybody, it's Terry". I believe they were all humble like that! Steve certainly was as well- he often stayed behind after a show to meet fans and he was the most humble gentleman. My favorite guitarist!

I think this was a show in House of Blues back in 2000. It was streamed and at that time, that was the quality of the video. I was there!

Yes. He was the violinist for the Mahavishnu Orchestra back in the Jazz/Fusion era.

@@ellokittymew It's MARK O'CONNOR. Goodman played with them later. When they reformed. Both Grand Champion Fiddlers.
