I'm not sure if you know this or not, but why didn't Carl Sims stay with the band too? He was on the plane with James. The Carl Sims that later made the solo hit song "I'm Trapped". Fan of the Bar-Kays and have always wondered, Carl Sims seems to not be in a lot of Bar-Kays info out there on the internet because he didn't join the reformed band.

This footage is actually a hybrid of the original band. Ben Cauley on trumpet and James Alexander on bass are the only originals. This apparently was filmed shortly after the crash. It's really weird to watch cause these other gentleman didn't become the final version of the Bar Kays we knew from the 1970s As much as I hate to say---type in the live version of "Try A Little Tenderness" and you'll see the original band the day before they died

@@leonguisburg413 Yes. Great info...it's easy to forget that James Alexander and Cauley reformed them as an instrumental band before adding Larry Dodson in 1970. I believe that's a young Harvey Henderson on sax who remained on through the 80s.

Grand presentation of funk. How in the world did we let this art form die? In all actuality, music today will never compare to live bands of the 60s and 70s. This digital artificial intelligence spin they put in music production today is not real. You cannot get around the prerequisite of a live three piece rhythm section. Drums, Bass, rhythm guitar. Everything else is gravy. The Bar-Kays were a great band. Especially "Soul Finger".

The Bar-Kays killing this monster jam! These boys were rough and ready. Thanks for posting this performance, it is very rare. I remember when we lost most of them in the plane crash with Otis on Dec. 10, 1967. That was a very sad day for me and many others. Miraculously, Ben Cauley survived the crash. Whereas James Alexander never boarded the plane. They reformed the Bar-Kays and continued the groups great legacy.

Originally from Detroit I lived in St. Louis from 1964-67. At eleven years old I started skating because it seemed everyone was into it. I lived on Ridge Ave. right near Union Blvd (first time I saw the name of this street I pronounced it "Onion." Hey I spoke it like they spelt' it)." I don't remember the name of the rink but I remember this song. I mean every time this song came on, from the very first notes everyone would stop whatever they were doing and Git' to skatin'! It didn't matter if they played it back-to-back, three times in a row or after every three or four songs. It never failed to get you up on those skates. SOULFINGER!!!
