THE BANANA IS UNRECOGNIZABLE! Matt's Off Road Recovery Jeep Gets Fresh Paint

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We pick up this week right where we left off! The bodywork gets finished up, and the Banana gets prepped for fresh paint. I cut into Matt's one of a kind Corvair hood, and end up needing some advice on how to complete the louvers for the Banana.

It is quite refreshing to see the playtime you take as well as we are all human and need a break from the everyday hassle of insurance BS. just to have some fun. your employees will last much longer because of this. Good lawd this is all so wholesome. I absolutely agree, Robby you look like you do fantastic work and your shop looks like a fantastic place *to* work. Any time I've been a manager part of my primary ethos is that I want my employees to be happy showing up for work, I want them to want to and enjoy being there, because if that's the case then I know they'll treat the job like something they care about, which brings out the best work in people. Your shop looks like it embodies this mentality and your staff look like they couldn't ask for a better place to have to show up at to earn a paycheck.

    Speaking for myself I sure would like to see a introduction to everyone, some history on yourself and how you got to be where you are today, especially at such a young age. A shop tour would be great as well, you have a gorgeous facility there, a lot of people would kill to have a shop like that and all the good tools and equipment, it’s quite the setup. The channel’s growing fast and you seem to be a natural at this KZread thing, your definitely no dummy, it was a very smart move to team up with Matt. I know I’ve been thoroughly enjoying M.O.R.R., Fab Rats, and Robby Layton Nation upload trifecta. Lastly props to whomever is doing the editing, they are doing a great job. Keep it all up, stay true to who you are and be yourself and I think you’ll have no trouble keeping the audience and growing once these projects are done.

    Young man I’ve been in business for 32 years and I started out just like you. You’ve got a skill set and you’re exploiting it. A lot of people in your generation are incapable of doing what you are doing and it’s awesome to see you succeed. It was a lot easier back then because things could been done on a handshake, not so much nowadays. In all fairness, there are ten times the auto-hobbyists now then there were 30 years ago and they're all over KZread. The general population always has and always will be generally talentless and expendable, so I'm not sure why age has to come into anything. Robby is awesome, has nothing to do with generation.

    Just found your channel. I worked in a body shop back in the 60's. I am anxious to see you rebuild a total wreck. We did that once with a 68 Lincoln Marquee. We cut it in half and replaced the entire rear behind the front seat. The car was new and totaled moments after he left the dealership. Car had under 50 miles on it. Things have changed a lot since those days. Fun to watch you and your shop perform miracles.

    Came over from Matt's channel for obvious reasons. Love the progress. And, a few things that some people might not realize: -Body shop folks also have to be mechanics. Look at the pieces they took apart just in this video. They have to know - at least the basics - of what these parts do and how to put everything back together. They might not know how to replace timing chains & guides on a 5.4L Ford (and, maybe they do, or could at least figure it out), but they do have to know how to replace ball joints, control arms, tie rods, window regulators, wiper transmissions, etc., etc. -Body work is expensive, because it takes TIME. And, those little parts like the shifter boot housing gasket are sometimes hard to find. Robby and Matt might have some kind of deal going, because of their respective KZread channels and proximity to each other - that's their business, but for the average Joe that walks in and wants a complete frame-off resto done on his 1970 Chevelle SS 454, it'll cost him tens of thousands of dollars. When you see that car go for $100,000 ( or whatever, I'm guessing here folks) on Mecum's Auction, it's because of the time involved. And, because Boomers - like me, lol - have driven up the demand for such cars trying to relive their younger years! Good job Robby & Gang.

  • @Skinflaps_Meatslapper

    @Skinflaps_Meatslapper

    It's primarily from boomers and people seeing cars purely as investments. It's part of the reason why resto's cost so much these days, which drives the price up, which drives the cost of parts up, which drives the cost of resto up...and the more something costs, the more the buyers turn into investors rather than enthusiasts.

Looking at his video history he's made 7 videos pre-banana in the last month, before that it'd been dead for 2 years. He's definitely got the right idea of bolstering his channel with the banana to build viewership. Not trying to hate I just think it was smart of him to get in on the action now that he's making more videos.

    I don't think folks realize just how rare a shop is that cares like you seem to. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend that looks at the business like you. He is smaller so you have more "toys" but, like you, when he is finished it's perfect. He's not so sure how much longer he will be able to stand the influx of "cheap ass" (his words) insurance companies and shops that do subpar work and underbid him. So far though he is hanging in there. I met him when I installed marine electronics on one of his customers boats. He looked at my install and liked the attention to detail and asked the guy who I was. About a year later a friend of mine needed some body work done and I gave him a ride to the shop that did the body work. The shop owner and I started talking and realized what the situation was.... we now are friends and his skills, like yours, amaze me.

    Watching you guys work is very entertaining. Watching a persons expertise on display is awesome. Taking an older vrhicle like that, stripping it down to its bare bones, fixing all the tedious repairs and making it look good is an accomplishment. Body work is something I wish I could do. Id love to be able to do restorations but not like classic cars where every detail can cost the car half its value. But work on your own stuff would be fun.

I mean really I didn’t expect how much that you tour the banana apart to get it painted!! All the detail that you put into the banana is just amazing!! That’s the kind of work that I want my 1969 Chevy 1Ton done to!! Here in Iowa I definitely don’t no of a shop that does that kind of quality work!! I might have to get ahold of you and see what it would cost me to have my 1969 Chevy done??? I’m definitely not a paint or body guy but definitely want my truck done Wright!! Safety first. 18:30 I see video clips, every day. of people walking away from roll-over car accidents, posted by MegaDrivingSchool. They never post fatal accidents (Thank You MegaDrivingSchool). When I learned to drive, in 1967, if you rolled a car you died. The roof flattened down to the top of the back of the seat (no head rests) which was shoulder height, crushing your skull. I do appreciate Robby and Matt taking so much care in the construction of that roll cage. If anything ever goes really wrong, those people strapped inside the Banana will have a great chance of just walking away.

Great work, and you have a nice touch for explaining what you're doing with just the right amount of detail. What am I missing?
