I just spent 2 days trout fishing in Colorado and I brought the Aldebaran and the Liger 30, doing real fishing I can confirm the Aldebaran does outcast the Liger. This reel is crazy good and getting smoother the more I use it. Ill be posting some of those vids when I get back home.

i changed rod from major craft finetail glass 4.6 to yamaga blanks 69/b and i am very happy with aldebaran 22 . use for 2.5 til 5 g lures. conquest use for 5-12 g. did you use for gjekkabin pe line ?

Shimano reels particularly JDM models come extra packed with grease, you can clean the bearings with acetone and oil once clean and reassemble or just use it and like you said, they just get better the more you use them. My jdm metanium has really smoothed out and cast much further than the first few times I used it. I'm pulling the trigger on the shallow edition this week. Can't wait to see how much the bottom weight casting ability is increased with the yumeya spool!

Shimano is just the best! I always rely on my Shimanos! They never let me down.

Great work, awesome video!!! I loved the comparison! Would be nice to include a new video showing how modified baitcaster perform too!!! Like the revo X/black max /others with a shallow spool and/or ceramic bearings! If they can compete against dedicated BFS baitcaster, that would be huge!

Can you redo the gekkabijin with both lures with actual .6 braid or less that this reel is actually specifically designed to be used with to actually show its true colours I’m a shimano man at heart and I have the aldebaran ,conquest and a scorpion. And all my spin reels are also shimano But I just recently got my first ever Daiwa reel the gekkabjin cause it’s designed for salt water which I fish a lot And stock with the braided line on the gekkabijin this out casts all my shimanos stock not by much but I can hit the far bank where I fish with the gekkabijin but I can’t quite do it with the alderbaran with the same lures Only talking 3 m more but when the fish are stacked on the far bank and getting to that far bank means getting a fish or not getting one I’m glad I decided to try the Daiwa Just my opinion from me using these reels but the gekkabijin is alot better than what ur results say alot better with the line that’s intended to be used on it

Lol dude is a shimano fan. You can't convince him. Much bias if you watch all videos throughout the years. He wont give you the test that gives daiwa what they are design for. When you see a curado bfs beat a daiwa gekka. You know right then its rigged some how lol

Ill be doing another BFS battle with only the JDM BFS reels this winter after I get my Zenon LTX and Ill be using braid.

Hi! Im a big fan of your channel from south korea and I always watch the your video well. This is a really surprising result. Especially, Alphas air is an unexpectedly disappointing result. I think casting with Alphas air is the most convenient for me, but casting distance is strange. And all of a sudden, I'm proud of my lovely Curado bfs. And thank you for your hard work and walk.:)

Going to preface this with saying I'm a Shimano guy and not a Daiwa guy for the most part... but I don't know if you can call the Gekka PE results "butt triggering" when you didn't even use the reel properly. You put 4lb mono on a reel specifically designed for braid, say the capacity is too small, has line lay issues with mono, and Daiwa needs to fix it? The only way you could properly put it in the field against the other reels is if they were all running 10lb braid or smaller diameter. For it to come in 2nd in the lighter lure test is very impressive even without the use of braid. I would be interested it what it could do with 8-10lb braid and the heavier lure.

I actually ran the gekkabijin vs the alphas vs the 16 Aldebaran using braid and it got beat really bad. But I hadnt even casted the Gekka yet at that point, so I fished it a few times this spring to loosen it up. Ill re run the braid battle after the Zenon LTX finally arrives and see whats up

What a great test. The only reel missing is the 16 Aldebaran. Based on the Conquest and the Curado results, I think the older Alderbaran will win this Olympics. Again I do confirm that the Air sucks at distance casting, especially with heavier lures. Soft precision casts with sub 2 grams is another matter...

You can still find a 16" Aldebaran New on several websites. I got mine just a couple month's ago but if you can get the 22 Aldebaran I'd say skip the '16 version if money is an issue.

Quick question on the Calcutta Conquest BFS, does your spool line guide feels loose? I just got mine from Digitaka and for the price, I was kind of surprise that the line guide seems have a lot of movement into it. Thanks for replying. I made my decision to purchasing one based on your video...

The reel you used last on the heavier lure test, did you use that first in the lighter lure or kept the same order?

If you don't want to wait for the video here about the 5 minute super-effective fix to let the Dark Wolf Ultra and Black Knight 2 cast lures of 1 to 10 grams as well as any of the other top BFS reels, Bass 'N Bonsai has a video on how to do it. I highly recommend it. It transformed my reels.

Great video! I don't fully understand, did you use a dark wolf in tests with stock magnets or not? After adding two 1mm magnets and two 0.5mm magnets, light lures fly much better. My spinner weighing 1.5 grams flew the same distance, but I used a rod 4.6 long and it seems to me that with a longer rod the bait will fly further. Now I'm waiting for a set of bearings that will give an answer if the dark wolf can comfortably throw two grams on a small river.

I’m a Shimano guy Skipped out on Aldebaran because while it is good for 1/32 oz, it doesn’t fit my fishing style. Curado and slx bfs is good for 1/8 to 1/4, which I throw more than 1/32-1/16

So do I compare the Shimano SLX BFS to the Curado BFS? I know they’re practically the same reel but do they perform the same?

To be honest, this battle was the 1st time I casted the Clamber. I will probably cast better once its loosened up. I did take it fishing with just a 1.5 gram lure and it pitched that bait easily. I just think that SVS infinity is a better centrifugal braking system. Its more sophisticated. I dont regret getting the Liger at all

Well I've got 2 and 1 places anyway, but Curado went in 5th not 3th. Not bad, not bad. But I don't need right retrieve reel anyway.

great video! I've been meaning to ask you about the Metanium Shallow model, about $270 at todays 134 rate. It's about 10g lighter( 175g vs 165g ). If it is meant to casr, wht handicap the reel by limiting the line?

I purchased the New Met. Shallow edition in the HG mode and it's really smooth but the spool was not very free at all. Probably due to the grease. I didn't flush the bearing and not planning on doing so. I'm going to try it as a bass reel first with spinnerbaits and crank's and see if it loosen's up. Hope this help's

Dang the Revo ultra cast BF8 has a 10g spool!? My Steez CT SV has a 9g spool and isn’t even a bfs reel. I guess I could throw what tactical Bassin thinks is bfs on it just fine

When I did the cast battle between the Alphas Air vs the 16 Aldebaran using braid, I also casted the Gekkabijin. It lost BADLY to both reels using braid.

Anyone done these rankings and then re price to find the best bang for buck?

Thanks for the comparison, you really do separate yourself from the bunch with these videos. I really want to comment on your take in regards to the importance of spool weight AND reliable/effective brake systems. The easy conclusion from this is, if you had to choose between light spool or brake system, it's brake system all the way. This is based on the Conquest coming at second though it's obviously nice to have the best of both worlds, enter the 2022 Aldebaran. On a side note, did you ever receive the 7ft Suppressor from Old18?.
